This is a great place to run /bike. I ran in the daytime so i/m not sure how lighting on the trail is at night. The scenery is beautiful and I actually wanted to run more so that I could see more of the trail.

First time here been in Columbus for 9 months now. I must say this is what makes columbus special! Other than being the landmark for the Columbus War. Enjoyed my peaceful walk. And hearing the construction going on in the one old building just gives the place a amazing feel. Would be definitely going back. If only at night it had beautiful lights along the riverwalk.

Don’t forget that the Spaniards were the first ones to settle down by the Chattahoochee river. Then came the English. There are monuments and signs posted at some points of the river walk telling you the story of the river and part of the story of the city of Columbus, slavery, Christopher Columbus, the first industries and those who developed them, very interesting. Too bad some people take the river walk for a dumpster. It’s hard to clean such a big area afterwards and then the flora and fauna also suffer from pollution and all the trash people throw there. Take care of this spot, Columbus. This is one of the best places you have.

We came to Columbus for valentine’s weekend to do the Riverwalk Geotour. I recommend it because it was such a challenge! We even ran into other geocachers! We were able to complete everything in 3 days and score the gold coins at the end. The riverwalk is really fun. We rented bikes(Rideonbikes) and rode the pavement all the way down and back. There were many historic things to see. The only thing I didn’t like was the lamp post light covers all over the place. Every time we were looking for a geocache, there they were! Also there was a lot of trash! If I lived closer, I would volunteer to clean up, maybe this is an opportunity to do a «cache in trash out» for the city because some of the caches need to be updated as well. There was also a few homeless people and patrolling police officers, but no one bothered us.

What a surprisingly nice area in downtown Columbus! This area seems to be coming along with some neat outdoor themed shops, microbrews and restaurants. We enjoyed walking along the area even though their were plenty of closed storefronts. I hope this area continues to develop and takes advantage of the river. We took our son on his first white water rafting trip(mine too) and he(we) loved it. It was an absolute blast, even though we did lose a couple of folks overboard briefly. Nothing like spending a few hours on the river then having lunch and a beer at the local restaurant. They are starting to repurpose some of the old buildings. It makes for some lovely scenery and photo opps.

Found this place on a weekend, VERY quiet which I LOVE. Plenty of trails to explore, kayaking, body boards, biking, fishing, etc. This is a great nook in the heart of columbus that most people I’m sure drive by everyday(much like I did) without knowing it’s there or how to get to it. It’s a great escape from being active at an overcrowded gym or a boring workout in your neighborhood, will make this a regular workout spot!

I think I would drive the 2 hours it takes to get here just to do this walk. It’s gorgeous and makes me feel soooo peaceful. From downtown Columbus to Fort Benning, it’s scenic, sun-filled, and the trail varies from covered wooden bridge to completely open… Last time I tried to get in a quick 45 minute walk I ended up full speed for two hours, it’s perfect and in a little nook in southwest Georgia that’s very sweet.

I enjoy riverwalks and made it a point to visit the river during my week in Columbus. There were several others there as well – walking, biking, running– and plenty of benches along the way to rest and watch the water. Had I been more familiar with the area, I would have packed a small picnic! I wish I had time to walk the entire trial.

Great place to go for a run or biking. If you own a pair of outdoor skates, even better! Long trails and nice scenery.

So you are 2 hours away from home on the state line, and you need to kill time. So what do you do? Head to the river! I have been to Columbus only a few times, but everytime I am around, I always see the river from the bridges… So it made me curious to get out of the car and explore. Driving along Bay Street, we saw a bunch of walking paths and free parking, so we decided to get out and investigate– and I am glad we(we being my friend who was there on business, I was his chauffeur) did! You walk down a bunch of steps and you are brought to the«Riverwalk». It’s about a ½ mile stretch that we went on, and gave great views of the river, Alabama, and Columbus in general. There is even a stepped seating area where you can just enjoy the scenery– including steps to walk into the river. Watching kids walk around in the river, people kayaking, people fishing, and people just enjoying time sitting on the rocks, drinking beer with their significant others. This is the good ol’ south. The paths were clean, and looked well lit– everyone we talked to were friendly too. There were even public restrooms too. All in all, this looks like a great place to just relax, and enjoy nature– it is a part of the ‘Hooch that I rarely get to see, and it is great to know that the same river close to my backyard looks just as beautiful a couple hundred miles away…
