San Antonio, TX
There are two rest stops between San Antonio and Houston, of the two the Colorado rest stop is the most plain. It features several picnic areas, a limited educational area, vending machines, a very very small walking path and an open grassy area where people often walk their dogs. There is plenty of parking for cars and trucks and the restrooms are well maintained and clean. I say that this rest area is plain because the other rest area (exit 619 the one closer to San Antonio) features a playground, a better educational center (which is a fairly large air conditioned room… great for people travelling with elderly parents, etc) and a much BETTER walking path, so take that as you will.

I have never reviewed a rest stop before, but this one is so nice I decided it needed one. Anyway, it is very attractive and the bathrooms were clean. Good job, Columbus, Texas.

Coming from NJ, I am, unfortunately, used to rest stops being few and far in between, closed or just plain dirty. Texas knows how to do rest stops and each one was better than the last. They are neat, spotlessly clean, have security and approachable attendants.
I know it is a little strange to review a rest stop and I was pleasantly surprised to find that others had done the same. Other states need to take a page out of this book …

This is a Rest Area that does Colorado County and the State of Texas Proud!
Very Clean, even the restrooms! Beautiful landscaping and nice picnic areas. Also plenty of room to walk the dog.
So if your area needs to rest this is a good place to just do it!

I know, it’s weird to review a Rest Stop. But I think it’s THAT important!
This is my favorite Rest Stop that I’ve ever been to in all of my days of Road Trips. And I’ve been to lots of places in Texas, on lots of different highways, interstates, farm roads, etc.
This rest stop is well maintained, beautiful grounds, super clean bathrooms, air conditioning, vending machines, grills, picnic tables and lots of parking.
You almost don’t even need to stop at a service station for anything if you know this is around the corner. Check it out.

WOW! I wouldn’t think I would give a REST STOP five stars but after sitting, that’s right SITTING, on I-​10 in traffic with two kids, I decided I HAD to pull over.
This rest stop must be the nicest in Texas. It had two sets of beautiful, clean bathrooms with AC. The picnic tables were numerous and covered from the sun. The grassy areas were well set away from the roads so I wasn’t nervous when the kids decided to run off some steam.
We also used the vending machines, which were well-​stocked, and that’s when I noticed a sign for free Wireless Internet Access. Are you kidding? Free internet in the middle of nowhere???
