Being out-of-towners, we wanted to stop by here and check out a fancy kayak that we can’t find in stores back in Chicago. So I called up first thing in the morning before stopping by to verify they did indeed have the kayaks in stock and that they were also pet friendly. Bret, who answered the phone, let me know that they not only had the kayaks in stock, but were totally pet friendly. Now, a couple of hours later, we arrive at the store, and Bret, who is sitting at the counter sees our dogs, and immediately knew who we were. First sign of great service. We were there looking for the Oru kayaks(fancy folding ones). Bret not only demonstrated how to unfold and set up, he let us test them out(on the sales floor obviously), and answered all our questions(thorough knowledge — he had first hand experience with the boats — the floor models look well used!). All in all, from our time spent in this store, I have to say, next time I’m in Columbus, I’m stopping by here again. Incredibly nice people, and a great selection of products(from kayaks, SUPs, and even some slack-line stuff at the front I noticed!).

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Columbus, OH
So, my wife and I were planning on looking at kayaks this year. This plan was in place last summer. Well, over the winter, we found out that she was pregnant, so that dashed our immediate plans. That didn’t stop us from looking though. I scoured the web and reviews, as is my nature. On Facebook, I kept seeing posts from Columbus Kayak, so I decided to take a look. That was February, and Ohio just would not let go of winter, so it had to wait until now. Upon arrival, I saw that the store was small. No big deal, I’ve worked in small stores before, just surprising given the big nature of kayaks(to me anyway). Though it is small, it is well laid out. The owners/staff made sure that the space is not wasted and displays product as well as making it accessible. I am terrible with names, and I forget the name of the guy who helped us out. I identified myself as a kayak noob, and he gave us a rundown of the different kayaks. They carry Jackson Kayaks(I didn’t see any other brands) and was impressed with his knowledge of the different models and there uses. They have everything for kayaking. They also carry some camping supplies, which intrigued my wife and I since we enjoy camping. We were already planning a kayak/camping trip once the expected little one is old enough to handle a trip. I was sorry that I couldn’t get a kayak, but I know where I am getting one. I try to shop local as much as possible and with an exceptional store such as Columbus Kayak, it makes it that much easier. I am not a fan of the big box sports stores, having worked in one, and would rather trust local experts.
