So there is a three mile or so stretch on refugee road that houses some of the city’s best mom/pop restaurants and grocery stores. El Nuevo Naranjo is one of these gems. Like CAM in the city’s northwest side, El Nuevo Naranjo has really really good prices on produce but in some cases you have to dig through a pile of aging produce. It is still likely that you will get some decent stuff, like Yucca or Casava for $ 1.99 a lb. By the way if you have not had fried Yucca and mayo you are missing out on one of life’s great pleasures. What else oh yeah great prices on canned goods, hot sauce and a great selection of meats. Oh and they sell freshly fried chicharron, let me just say I squealed in joy when I saw the bin… and it’s cheap!

Very nice small grocery store specializing in Hispanic foods. Was looking for some Sazon seasoning and found it for vegetables, also some Mole and Adobo sauces. Store clerk very helpful in pointing out to me. They also had some fresh baked buns. Smelled great so I bought a couple. They are a cross between a cookie and a donut crusty on outside but soft like bread in center and not too sweet. Prices were very good. Liked them a whole lot.
