Like many good businesses in the Brewery District, Eye Columbus is tucked away and perhaps easy to miss. My first impression when I found the entrance was not the greatest– a nondescript door with a small placard proclaiming that I had(at last) found my destination. Inside you’re created with a very modern décor and friendly staff. My appointment several weeks ago was my first. Like several other reviews, my online-submitted paperwork was lost to the aether, and I had to file new paperwork. Inconvenient, but not really earth-shattering. The appointment was fairly quick and the optometrist conducted his business in a friendly and efficient manner. I didn’t feel rushed or neglected throughout the exam, and I went to select my frames with confidence that my new prescription was solid. I’m a little ambivalent about the rest of the process though. The selection of frames is fairly limited, and the optic stylist(is that a real title or did I make it up just now?) was perhaps a little too aggressive in recommending(pushing) styles that she felt would look better on me. I ended up settling for a pair of glasses without an adjustable nose pad. They arrived just shy of 3 weeks after my appointment(I have a very strong prescription). I had to make an appointment to pick my glasses up(which is very, very unusual). When I arrived to pick up my glasses they were taken from a paper tote bag and handed to me. That’s it… no attempt to ensure the frames were fitted, no adjustments made, and more importantly… the same person who recommended I purchase a warranty the day I picked my glasses up failed to offer the warranty. So I left… and my glasses seem in dire need of an adjustment! I’m not sure if I’ll return to Eye Columbus for this adjustment or attempt to have it done elsewhere. Some other elements to note: — I asked for my pupillary distance on my prescription, to order a pair of glasses online. There was a lot of disdain for online ordering, which I thought very weird as their website allows you to order glasses online… — The staff seems to have serious problems with their computers. At my first appointment the person processing my order had to switch computers 3 times and was unable to print a receipt as their network printer wasn’t responding. At the appointment to pick up my glasses there were similar issues. So expect some delays while they flip between computers. … overall, the staff is friendly, the optometrist seems very good at his job. They also seem to actually LIKE what they do, which is nice(and rare). But it would be nice if they could resolve their technical issues, and if the staff provided a proper fitting when you pick up your new glasses.
