Getreu Cleaners

Here are the TOP SIX things you need to know about Getreu Cleaners:
1.) As mentioned, this place likely hasn’t undergone any major renovations since the 60’s/70’s. Further, there are frequently old westerns playing over an antenna from MeTV. It’s a bit of a time warp.
2.) The service is AMAZING. I’m usually helped by an older gentleman or woman who are always really kind and treat me with care. Some of the best service I’ve received at a dry cleaner.
3.) The turnaround at this place is quick. Usually 48 hours.
4.) The quality of cleaning is pretty good. I’ve never taken anything extremely soiled to them but my shirts always come back clean and neatly pressed.
5.) I can’t complain about the prices. I think I pay around $ 1.25 for shirts and something like $ 4 for pants.
6.) Related to point 1: they don’t really have modern POS technology. Make sure that your garments are correctly counted and the amounts add up. I’ve never had a major problem but something to keep in mind.
WILL I BE GOING BACK? Definitely. I do pretty much all my cleaning here these days.

This is probably the worst service I have ever experienced at a dry cleaner. Please, take your clothes somewhere that will do it right.

Just came from Getreu. Going to Chicago this weekend and after giving them 2 days to clean my suit, they don’t have it… please, your truck broke down and you have no address for me to go pick it up myself. You’ve got to be «fu#*ing» kidding
On a side note, I went to Getreu because the place up the block (starts with a B and rhymes with tarts) totally botched a cleaning job of 2 suits that I took on a cruise. It looked like they just switched hangers and put tags on the clothes, left the wrinkles and I was embarrassed.

Generally, my experiences here have been very good. I came here from another cleaners down the street that ruined my shirt buttons on a regular basis. Since coming here, I haven’t had any such problems. My shirts and pants have all been expertly cleaned and pressed.
I only had one problem, where the counter lady serious miscounted the number of shorts I had turned in and I ended up getting half my order back. I was worried that I would be in for a fight to get my clothes back from whatever. Black hole they had disappeared into. But to my surprise, when I reported it, they got right on it and found every one of my missing items. No excusing and no hassles. Every company can make mistakes now and again (this is the first time I’ve had an issue in about 8 months). It is how company stands by the customer when mistakes happen that matters. They did right by me and I will continue to take my business here… I’ll just make sure to count my shirts before I go over there to check the counts before I leave.

When I used to wear dress shirts to work, Getrue is where I had them laundered. They did a great job and I’d go back in a minute. I imagine that the owner is now dead (he was old and had heart problems) but he was a good guy.

My usual dry cleaners of choice is Clintonville Coin Laundry & Dry Cleaning, however they are unable to do quick jobs, so they referred me to Getreu on Indianola for a job in 48 hours. And as a procrastinator, I have needed to go on several occasions to get my clothing dry cleaned quickly.
Getreu looks like it has not gone through any changes since the 1960s on the outside and in, though that provides a somewhat homey feeling. The staff is really nice, especially the elderly ladies, and there is always a cup of candy.
They have always been great on timing — I have never arrived and my shirts were not ready. My clothes comes out pretty nice, but I have had one or two stains not come out through them.
Overall, Getreu is a good replacement for Clintonville when you need clothes lightning fast. I am not sure of laundry practices and if their machines are really up to par with the times, as the establishment’s exterior and interior certainly need a makeover. However, the people are kind, they are timely, and they do a MOSTLY good job on my clothes!
