Thanks to a kind lady here on Unilocal,I was turned on to Green Bean Delivery and I’m so glad I was. I didn’t know it existed until she mentioned it. I’m having a great time with all the wonderful produce(with the exception of my blood oranges, that were dry and shriveled on the inside and they only sat in my fridge for 2 days). I’m generally not picky about which produce I buy. Usually I purchase non-organic because it’s less expensive. So I didn’t sign on specifically because the produce is organic, but mostly because of wanting to eat healthier. And receiving these bins every other week is definitely forcing me to eat more fruits and vegetables. I’ve had fun experimenting with new recipes in order to get the produce used up before it goes bad. My only complaint so far is the cleanliness of the bins. They REALLY need to take a little more time to clean those things before they stuff them with more food.

i have received my second bin of produce and am quite pleased with the quality and variety. I prefer organic produce and find that the super market selection can be lacking and not fresh. So far, green beans organic produce has been far superior to the regular grocery store, it’s on par with Whole Food. I will say, remembering to make modifications to my order by Monday for a thursday delivery will require some more planning. I’m hoping that if i forget to modify my order and recieve their choice produce, it will force me to get creative and try new things.

FINALLY! Soooo happy when I saw a delivery van and had to try the service for myself. So far so good. Healthy produce to your door… now there’s no excuse to not eat healthy. Hoping as more people subscribe that more exotic and lesser know fruits and veggies will start to be available.

I love this delivery service. For 2 years now, I’ve been getting the small bin of fruits and veggies every other week for $ 35. Sometimes I add organic sugar and fresh organic eggs to my order. You get a list of items emailed to you and you can customize every order(when they have something you don’t like on the list, you can substitute for something you like better). They also accept canned goods(place in the pickup bin) and they deliver to a food bank.

I’ve been a Green Bean customer for a few months and just recently cancelled my service. After giving it some time and receiving several bins, I think I can offer a fair review of my own experience. The sign up process is very easy. The website could be a little better, i.e. less clicks to log in to your region and on updating bins when changing items. I found it to be a bit pricey; however, this may depend on what you buy at the store. Originally, I was hoping to get better quality produce for either comparable or less than grocery prices. I did not find this was the case. I spend about the same and have more control over my produce.(Yes, you can modify your bins, but keep in mind that your bin size will only fit so much so you are, in effect, limited in what you can switch out.) I did not have a good experience with some romaine lettuce. It was extremely dirty, wilted and near rotten when I got it(it smelled). This brings me to another sticking point: Do not expect fast service. They are open from 9 — 5, M-F, so if you are like me and don’t get your bin until you return from work in the evening, they are closed, and any problems you have need to be dealt with the next business day. When I did have a couple of items I wasn’t quite pleased with, this kept me from calling – it’s a hassle to wait. At least at the store, I know what I’m picking out, and if something does go bad before it’s time, I can take it back to the store at 8 in the evening if I need to. I had an order confused with another person’s(got the wrong bin). I had to wait until the next day, leave the bin out again and have one re-delivered. What irritated me was that they put a note in saying«sorry,» etc. and offered me «additional produce at no extra charge». When I checked the bin, I found that I had received an extra bag of mushrooms. Mushrooms, of all things! Yes, I can use those in EVERYthing. That experience only made me feel better about having cancelled. Packing materials are quite dirty, considering they’re putting my food in the bin. I’ve actually found hair on the freezer pack. Not cool. Bottom line: It was more expensive than I would have paid at the store(even mostly organic stores like Earth Fare) and the quality wasn’t so super that I just had to keep the service.(Yes, I realize that there is an upcharge for delivery, as there should be, but my experiment was with cost as well as service.) Customer service gets a 6 out of 10. Wouldn’t do it again unless I became so super busy that grocery shopping wasn’t an option.

I originally bought into this service because of a Living Social deal the at $ 15 for $ 35. I’m so glad I did! I’ve had the best experience with the fresh fruits and veggies and have started purchasing other dry goods that they offer in their store. I’ve had a couple instances where the fruit was a little too ripe, but I’ve called customer service and they’ve compensated me on my next delivery each time. The bins that the produce come in is very sturdy and well insulated. I had one on my porch during that major power outage storm earlier this year and even though all my patio furniture blew away, my bin was safe and sound. I’m going to continue to use this service because it’s incredibly convenient and easy to use and I’ve been very happy with the results.

I received my first bin last night, and I wanted to review my experience with Green Bean Delivery now, and hopefully revise my rating later. First, I heard about Green Bean Delivery at the Pelotonia pre-party almost a year ago. It sounded like a great idea, but I hadn’t moved into my new place yet… so I put it off for awhile. But, it stayed on my mind, and now, 9 months later, I’m a member! The ordering system online is pretty easy to use, though the website navigation could be a little smoother(transition from just browsing to logging in, for example). I ordered the small produce bin at $ 28, and foritfied my order to the required $ 35(maybe $ 38?) minimum with nitrate-free bacon and local organic eggs. At least, I think they’re local(more on this later). You have the option for bins to come weekly, or every-other week(I’m on the every-other plan). I’m pretty comfortable in the kitchen, so I am hoping the variable deliveries of produce will inspire more fresh food, more«unplanned» cooking. I’m looking forward to the challenge of eating everything up before it goes bad. It’ll be like a game! Actually, doesn’t seem like it will be too hard. I’m excited! However, there’s one major drawback that is keeping my initial impression away from 4-stars; maybe even teetering on a two-star. I’m very disappointed that a lot of the produce did NOT appear to be local. I haven’t checked every food item, but of the ones I checked, NONE have been locally produced(not even regionally). Not everything has a label on it, but the strawberries are from California, and the pears I received are from Argentina. Waaah waaaaaaah :( On one hand, I understand that not everything can be in season locally. I do. And when I need something like that, I go to the grocery store. I feel like Green Bean has been a tad misleading about this… I was under the impression the bins would be from a more local(regional, even) network of farmers. It’s understood that the bins will not have the same things in them every time… so why not just provide what the local networks can provide? I didn’t specifically order a pear, so why go to Argentina for it? I wanted to support local farms, and even though I can’t do it completely… I want to try to get local produce to cut down on transportation costs(both monitarily and for the sake of quality). I received pears, nectarines, and a cucumber… none of which are in season right now in Ohio. Strawberries, however, are in season here now… so I’m a little sad to see these are from Cali, and so far seem similar to the grocery store’s level of ripeness. I also understand that Green Bean’s services are available year-round, and obviously the wintertime would warrant transporting from other climates, but… in the spring/summer I just would have expected more local produce. Another limitation is that you cannot choose your delivery day. Your delivery day depends on your region. I don’t mind this… mine comes on Wednesday and that’s fine. They need to keep their delivery costs efficient, of course. But, it’s something to keep in mind if you are thinking about signing up. It will be interesting to see how the bin content changes over the course of the season. However, if more local produce doesn’t start showing up as we get deeper into the growing season… I’d rather head to the farmers’ markets and sign up for a more traditional CSA, and get the rest at the grocery for lower cost. Hope I can revise!

Green Bean Delivery delivers local produce and natural groceries delivered to your doorstep! They serve areas within Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Choose a bin to suite your needs. The bins range from small to large and can be filled with fruits, vegetables, and grocery items. I opted for the small fruit and vegetable bin. For $ 35 I get to pick what produce goes into the bin plus add additional grocery items like eggs, milk, grains, cheese, beverages, etc. I chose to have my bins delivered every other week since it can get pricey and I alone can’t finish off an entire bin in a week’s time. The goods come delivered in a sturdy plastic bin with a cooling block to keep your produce cold. The produce always looks super fresh and delicious. I’ve never received a bruised looking item. Getting produce from Green Bean Delivery has single handedly caused me to eat healthier and cook more. It has encouraged me to be more creative and cook vegetables I have never tried before. Supporting local farmers is also a plus. Their customer service is also pretty excellent. I ordered some Snowville Milk once and found the milk carton to be leaking. I notified them via email and they immediately responded and gave me the option of including a free milk for the next bin, or a credit. I love love Green Bean Delivery and look forward to my bins!
