I want to like this place, I really do… it’s got old fashioned charm, fair prices, and traditional barbershop straight razor/head massage. However, Howard and his team can be somewhat rude and off-putting, and it’s too bad but the quality of the cuts is VERY hit or miss. I’ve walked out looking great, and walked out with something so bad I had to go somewhere else for repair… so I likely won’t be back, unfortunately.

Since Franco retired I’ve been looking for a decent barber near Grandview. Decided to try Howard’s based on the positive reviews here at Unilocal.Didn’t work out so well for me. In fact, I think I just got one of the worst haircuts in my life at Howard’s. I said a little shorter on the sides and leave it a little longer on the top. Starting with hair that was 1.5″ to 2″ long, he promptly took me down to 1/32″ on the sides and 3/64″ on the top. Okay, I can live with that. It’ll grow back. I pay and I leave. On the drive home I reach up and find a tiny clump of hair about 1.5″ long on the back of my head. Thankfully, I have a Wahl at home and managed to remove the micro-mullet and even out the cut myself. Could have done a better haircut myself with my own trimmer and my eyes closes. Oh well, the search for Franco’s replacement continues.

I REFUSE to get my hair cut anywhere else in Columbus. Great Service.(Generally) short waits. Locally owned, complete with local personality. As you can tell, I’m a fan! This is your classic old fashioned barber shop. Simple hair cut is just $ 13, but I would pay double to continue going here. One of my favorite features is still being able to get a straight razor shave. One of the barbers trims the back of my neck with hot lather and straight razor — it’s pretty much the best feeling in the world. All of the barber’s have just the right amount of dry, sarcastic humor. At 10 a.m. on Saturday you’ll hear Howard proclaim, «I better be getting over to the stadium for Urban». Love it. Their hours are old school and not the most convenient. Only time I can go is Saturday hours(8 – 2:30). But to me, that is a small price to pay for the friendliness you’ll get at Howards. I’m not going anywhere else, anytime soon.

This is a great place. No hipsters. No patchouli stink. No super cool trendy tattooed guys. Just a good, old fashioned barber shop with reasonable prices. Why patronize some corporate place and buy some guy in a suit a new Beamer, when you can give your money to an independent barber shop and put someone’s kids through school?

I am a big fan of Howard’s. You can’t beat the price and the barbers are just nice guys. It’s nothing fancy but they get the job done.

Just went in for a haircut. The same barber cut my hair 3 weeks ago. He did a terrible job. However, it’s close to home so I thought I’d try it again. When I told him how I wanted it, he said it would look terrible and he wouldn’t do it. My response was that I have it cut that way normally to which he rudely took off my smock and told me to go elsewhere. I responded that his customer service was horrible and I was definitely going to mention the incident on the internet as much as possible. He even followed me outside and called me a fat ass. DONOTGOHERE!!!

Howard’s is a classic barber shop where you get a hair cut and a friendly conversation every time. Namesake Howard Salzgaber has been cutting hair for 35 years, originally cutting hair at his Lane Avenue shop(with Howard Warner) before moving to this Grandview location in 2004. Howard’s has many third generation clients and even a few fourth generation clients, showing a lifetime of trust and care for all ages. As a lifelong client of Howard’s you’re sure to be satisfied with the service and you can’t beat the price.
