Very nice spot. Slightly overpriced and service was a little bad, but it was a solo lunch in off-hours and I can understand. Food was very good, nicely prepared but a little on the mild side. I think it was perfect for a generic restaurant, but if you’re going to identify as Cajun, you need to bring the chili powder.

My boyfriend and I made a special trip to Columbus to try out Huck’s. I have heard all types of raves! We started out with the Huck’s soul dip– so great! It was turnip greens, cream cheese, andouille sausage, and sprinkled with bacon! It was so good but so filling(cleaned the plate)! We regretted it the min we got our meal. We were already so full! For our meals(that we barely ate) I got the blue plate which was Cajun honey glazed fried chicken and Willy got the crawfish po-boy! We tasted a little of each to see, and we’re very happy! At least we have dinner covered for tonight :) defiently would recommend. The reason I gave four stars was because our waiter was quite bland and just rude. He barely said two words to us and it took forever for us to get refills. I guess that’s just a male feature but oh well! The food made up for him :)

It’s hard to decide what rating I would like to give Huck’s. On one hand, I frequently bring out-of-towners here for the drinks, atmosphere, and live music. The downstairs bar is a nice addition(if you’re not too tall, which I’m not. If you are over 6 feet, you’ll have to watch your head). On the other hand, the food can be inconsistent. It’s VERY decadent, so if you are sensitive to oils in your food, I’d take some tums with you! I’d recommend the Zydeco Pizza and Boudin Balls for apps. I’ve enjoyed several of their pasta dishes, but the etoufee is disappointing and the gumbo is so-so. I would recommend the wine and cheese dressing if you get a side salad. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the shrimp bisque. I have tried time after time to like it, but it’s sooooo salty. Columbus isn’t a town with a whole lot of options, so I’d say that we are lucky to have Huck’s.

My absolute favorite dine in restaurant to eat while in Columbus. They have a great food and beer selections. The boudin balls and crawfish nachos are the appetizers to try. I always go with the house creole mustard vinaigrette which is my favorite salad dressing(it comes on the side incase you don’t like it). And I almost always order the 8oz filet for my meal with the bourbon maple mashed sweet potatoes as my side. If after all of that you have room for dessert, I recommend the bread pudding or cheesecake. I hope you all can enjoy Huck’s Place as much as I have!

First visit! A lot of hype! A little disappointed. Non experience shined through in the service. Not very friendly and also as you never offer water over the alcohol! Maybe bar service would have been a better option but we had a minor with us so that wasn’t an option. The mixed drinks were actually top notch compared to others in town it’s just after 2 our server offered water instead! One member of our party ordered the mahi mahi and 20 minutes later told they were out. Great atmosphere and décor though!

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing space. Perfect meeting place with clients. Always know the food will be good and the volume will be loud enough to know the booths near you will not over hear whatever you need to discuss.

I like their crawfish nachos but I have never really found any reason to absolutely love going to Huck’s. It’s okay, not anything too special.

I’ve tried over and over again to like Hucks. I understand that I am going against the norm here since everyone in Columbus loves the place. I will say that they have a really fun atmosphere with two bars, one upstairs and one down. This place is very popular and often times has a 30 min-1 hour wait for a table. I’ve been here probably about 15 times and the service is overall fairly slow– most likely because it is always busy. The food is southern/creole. Everything is VERY heavy. A majority of the menu is fried and everything is smothered in butter. Way to much butter. Many of the dishes are very rich, oftentimes too rich. The steaks are pretty decent but other than that I’ve never walked out of there impressed about the food. Bottom line: fun atmosphere, expect a long wait, very rich, buttery, and salty food.(Enough to make Paula Dean cringe…)

Fantastic lunch! Best in Columbus that I’ve experienced during my stays. Lunch special under $ 10 for homemade cooking. I recommend this to anyone who’s looking for great cooked food. Went for dinner and it was better than lunch. Absolutely FANTASTIC place to dine. You will not be disappointed with the service or food.

I came here last week during a brief visit. My brother lives around the corner and we walked to Here. I ordered some beers and fried crawfish tails as an appetizer. I ordered the fried chicken covered in pecans and maple. The food was just incredible. The flavor was perfect and unlike anything I’ve had before. The service was good and waitress kept checking on us. The atmosphere is great for watching football games or a race. I would definitely come back

Hucks has the most fun atmosphere of any restaurants in Columbus. On Thursday nights in the summertime, you can get shrimp boils by the pound that are amazing! As far as the menu goes, the crawfish nachos are a must. Pretty much all of the other apps get notable mentions! I’ve never really had a bad meal at Hucks. My best advice is to avoid trying to eat healthy and you’ll have a great meal! :)

So I was looking for somewhere else to eat in this town. I decide it would be here, this place and old hickory steakhouse were recommended by a feller I was talking to in Atlanta airport. Upon reading the previous reviews, I wasn’t to concerned. I had a seat at the bar which I usually do, the bartender was polite and served me a beer right away. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo as an appetizer. It was pretty good, at this point service went completely downhill. I ordered my food, sea food platter. I asked about getting the oysters for an extra $ 2.99 like the menu said. The bartender said no that’s 4.99. Basically just put market price in the menu. I went back and forth awhile. Catfish, shrimp, hush puppies and fries I had gotten along with another bowl of gumbo. I finished the gumbo and waited 15 – 20 minutes to get another beer. It wasn’t busy, the bartender was bussing tables? My food came, beer too I ate and drank it and left. The food was good and service was poor.

Huck’s continually receives solid reviews by locals and travelers alike. I too would rate it as a solid restaurant, but nothing spectacular. I was excited, this being my first time in MS, to read others reviewing the cajun/creole influence being close to Louisiana, but I guess I need to get even closer? I was in a party of 8 people and we all ordered a variety of local beers and wine. While many reviews suggest that service is slow, I truly think it’s just the pace that southerner’s practice and expect at establishments that is reflected. My initial order of wine had strong notes of vinegar so I sent it back, but the follow-up glass took it’s sweet time in arriving simply due to the pace at which the service operates. We ordered two appetizer portions of fried green tomatoes(see pictures), and we all agreed they were quite tasty despite the lack of presentation. The remoulade was decent and the additional small shrimp made it unique enough to pass on the unimaginative plating. Our meals, for the most part, were solid(hence the three stars), but I was particularly underwhelmed by my redfish. I’d hoped with the toppings and such a classic cajun dish that I’d be greeted with a well seasoned fish, sauce, and accouterment. The dish that was delivered, however, was plain looking and tasting. I had substituted hush puppies instead of salad(partially because of other reviews, but also because I rarely get hushpuppies in the north). They were, however, dry and rather unflavored. I ended up wishing I’d just gotten the salad. If I was back in Columbus, MS again, I’d probably wanna try some of the other places available before I headed back to Huck’s. Then again, I wouldn’t be upset if my cohort wanted to return there, for I’d want to try out a few other things on the menu before rendering further judgement. Just know if you need a solid joint for everyday food with a slight cajun flair, this is your place!

I was so disappointed with my experience after reading the reviews. So the place is surprisingly large and pretty cute in décor. I was solo so I sat at the bar(decorated with bottle caps). The bartender was nice enough and took my orders. They had Abita Strawberry on tap which was exciting because I hadn’t seen that before but I’m also not from around here, so there’s that. However, dinner was pretty unappetizing. The menu is crazy long and I think they need to cut down and focus on what’s important. I ordered the tuna with bacon, crabmeat, and hollandaisse sauce. While it wasn’t bad, it was completely unseasoned and underwhelming. And this was an item I specifically ordered because it was highlighted as a specialty. Definitely expected something better from a place that says it’s Cajun/creole. Also, it came out crazy fast — I was probably in and out in 25 minutes, including getting a small side salad and bread basket. The best thing I ate was the mashed potatoes which were heavenly(but for obvious reasons — I could taste the cream). At $ 26 total bill for my one beer and dinner it was also very pricey. Next time I’m in town, I’m going to skip this place.

We drove an hour to eat at this restaurant. We arrived at exactly 1:33. We were told the kitchen was closed even though the front door was open. Really??? Very Rude!!! If your closed put a sign on the door!!!’

One of the better restaurants in Columbus. New Orleans influenced southern cuisine. The lunch blue plates are tasty and reasonably priced. Outside the blue plates it does get a little pricey. They grill shrimp perfectly. The mustard vinaigrette is a very nice dressing. I particularly enjoy«Chicken on the Bayou» with andouille, though the andouille is a little unusual –not like what I have had in New Orleans. They have recently brought back the crawfish enchiladas, which are quite good. Some of the sides are a bit lackluster.

Kinda funny, the closer you get to New Orleans from Atlanta the better the food gets! I always enjoy Mississippi because you will see chains on the highway bit if you go into the downtown areas one can find great southern eats! Enter Hucks Place. Is this place good? Is the service great? Is the atmosphere you typical Mississippi hospitality scene? Damn Skippy it is!!! I started off with Boo Dan Balls! From the Sippy to the Loozie I’m always searching for some good Boo Dan! At Hucks you don’t have to use Scope to clear bacterial items from your mouth, the Boo here will burn it out! Loved it! Start with that And Enjoy some white beans and fish with one of their many beer items you can’t go wrong! Spend some bucks at Hucks! You will enjoy it!
