As a grad student at OSU, this is the type of place that fills my spirit(and appetite) on a Monday night when they offer ½ price off on tacos al pastor. Even at regular price, this is the place to go for authentic tacos al pastor in Columbus. No question about it. Also, if you get a chance, please try their flautas. They are a fairly recent addition to the menu. Flautas are corn tortillas filled with chicken, and then fried to order. They top them with lettuce and sour cream and they totally remind me of what I would tell my mom to cook for my special birthday meal. THATGOOD.

I went here on a recommendation of a friend. Overall the food was good, and I will return to try another dish. I went with Al Pastor tacos, but it did not«wow me». It was surprisingly busy and seating was a real challenge. Maybe best to try off-hours?

I was really pumped to try this place and came away a little disappointed. I mean it was ranked by Delish! as the 16th best taco spot in the US! I had to get a gringa. It’s an al pastor taco with cheese, pineapple, onion and cilantro. This is supposedly their staple. It was just alright. I also tried a fish taco, a chorizo taco, and beef tongue taco. The fish was also just alright, but the chorizo and tongue were both solid. I was a little skeptical trying beef tongue, but I’d probably get it again. It honestly reminded me lot of ground beef. I mean they both come from the same animal. To drink, I optioned for the horchata. It was awesome. It’s a rice milk drink. My best description of it would be think skim milk with some cinnamon mixed in. I’d love to have this every time I eat anything spicy. I wouldn’t make a stop here if I was back in Columbus, but if I lived in the area, I’d definitely come back. Junior’s is just as good, if not better, and they’re both extremely cheap.

We were very excited to try this place. Upon arrival its a very fast, confusing ordering process. You need to know exactly what you want when you get there or anxiety and the long line building behind you will have you ordering the first thing you can say, probably not what you want. Seating is a luck situation. Only a few huge tables, always full. Bar seats if you can get them, but its congested and not the best place to enjoy food. The tongue taco is really good. The green table salsa and housemade guacomole yummy! But, nothing was really outstanding. We are going to stick with our westside taco truck.

Great, casual spot for some delicious, authentic Mexican food. Priced well. They have a vegetarian burrito too. I am addicted to spicy food. My motto is if it’s not spicy it’s not good… Unless it’s chocolate of course. That being said, their peppers in the bowls on the table are no joke. My mouth was in so much pain I blacked out. Did I go back for more? Yep just less in quantity to avoid hells fury in my mouth. I would recommend a few at a time. The outside of my mouth is still burning 10 min later. Beware y’all!

Small place but tables open up quickly. The food was fast, affordable and delicious. The el favorito burrito lived up to the name, filling could have been melted together better. Spicy shrimp taco was amazing but had a strong kick. Finally al pastor tacos were the highlight and already want more.

My boyfriend and I came here arpund 1130PM after getting out from the Rock on the Range concert. The place is hard to spot unless you know what your looking for(please see other reviewers photos for pictute of store front). The place was well lit and appeared clean. They had nice tables to sit at woth se serious condiments. There was 90 percent hispanic customer in attendance… hopes were high. I ordered the beef tongue tortas, he ordered Los Favoritos burrito, flan and home made guac and chips. Mexican coke present is a plus. I have to say, not being super versed in mexican cuisine, the food taste so much… tastier than thos standard«authentic mexican» restaurants one usually finds. It is a nice place to go. We will definitely come back!

Please don’t hate me!!! We tried this, and cannot understand the hype! It’s a VERY tiny space, with no direction. I would explain it as find it or lose it! However this is the pro and cons we experienced; Pros: Fast services Authentic Loved their salsa– different-just a very small cup you orders separate at a charge. Hubby said squeezable condiments on the table were good. Cons: So people stand over you while you are sitting and eating to get your table-!!! Disagree on this concept. We had it happen to us. While I appreciate the open«condiments» on the table– marinated hot onions-hum people put fingers in them-no shelf life and the bowl of limes. I Am very OCD-so no thank you! Super busy even on a Monday-and the person upfront was in a hurry even though no one was behind us. Every question I asked, was clearly broken and couldn’t explained. Not the best Al Pastor in the city-mine wasn’t all that neither was my husbands. Dry and no flavor! So I am Lost at this statement. They forgot to give me sour cream and charged me $ 2 instead of $.50! My husbands Los Guachos-stake was dry and everything was over cooked. We also tried the guacamole– it was very good-just for the price for ordering the salsa and guac it wouldn’t be 10 chips plus broken ones. Still looking for the best in Columbus.

This place is totally awesome. I mean over 400 reviews at 4.5 stars average should prove that point. We’re in Columbus for business travel and certainly didn’t expect a true Mexican restaurant of this quality in the middle of Ohio! The al pastor(marinated pork on a large vertical spit) tacos are what they’re known for and you get 2 for $ 1.50 on Mondays! They come on fantastic Mexican style corn tortillas. Each table has a huge bowl of sliced limes and another bowl of marinated peppers and onions as toppings. Along with that you have a very very good green salsa and a bottle of red as well. I also tried the grilled fish taco(on flour), tripe, and beef tongue. Both the tripa and lengua were very good. But I would come back just for the al pastor because it was really that great. Despite this being extremely popular and well-known enough that even out-of-towners like us can find it, it has not rested on any laurels! Would go back 10⁄10. Went back. Still 10⁄10. Nuff said. Oh and the spicy shrimp is amazing too. But nothing beats the al pastor.

I wish I could give them 4 ½ stars, but in order to protect the integrity of my 5 star ratings I’m going to have to go with 4. Here’s the deal, this place is a little better than your average Mexican restaurant. I had their tacos, and they’re my favorite kind(authentic), and they put pineapple in them(different, but good). The food was made fresh to order(they were cutting up the pork right in front of me [which was a neat experience in itself]), and it came with several sauces am some cucumbers. But, other than that there was no big ‘wow’ factor. Don’t get me wrong, The place was good and I plan on coming back, there was just nothing extra special about it when compared to other authentic Mexican restaurants(which surprised me based on the number of Unilocal reviews). Please try it at least once, you’ll probably enjoy it!

There was a time when the only Mexican you could find in Columbus was Tex-Mex. The first time I remember having more authentic Mexican food here was at La Casita, which is just around the corner from here. Now we are lucky to have several options. I’ve been to the other location several times, and this one is pretty much the same. Always busy, always good. They seem to do a lot of carryout on weekends, and there is a small dining room too. Sit at the counter if they’re busy. And order one of everything… I was actually here twice in one day, since I left something here on the first visit. That time I had the gringas(pork and pineapple tacos) and a lamb barbacoa one. Great meat– tasty, tender. Lots of fresh veggies on good tortillas. On my return later that night I had a brisket volcane, basically a taco with cheese that was crisped up a bit. Good, but I’ll stick with the standard ones so I can have a few veggies mixed in. I also got a bag of chips and some guac. The chips are really good, freshly made, and go well with the fresh guac. Service was friendly, but the line and orders moved super slow. They were packed, so I recommend coming at an off time. Same deal at the other location– typical dinner hours are going to be busy.

Los Guachos Taqueria is a restaurant I will miss dearly when I move away from Columbus this summer. When a restaurant averages 4.5 stars after 428 reviews, they are doing something right. Well, it’s time to add another growing review to the mix. What makes Los Guachos great is their combination of great food combined with affordable pricing. We are talking about tacos that are $ 1.50 or $ 2 all day, everyday. Forget about Taco Tuesdays, it’s tacos everyday. They even have daily specials, making this taqueria one the best values in the city. Los Guachos market themselves as having the«Best Taco Al Pastor in the City.» I tend to agree with their slogan. The al pastor pork meat is extremely tender and well-marinated. The huge rotating spit of pork is likely the first thing you’ll notice behind the counter. If you look even closer, you’ll notice the pineapple on top of the spit, marinating the pork and also sliced into your taco. These pineapple slices really add a nice sweetness and freshness to the taco. If you don’t like pineapple… then we can’t be friends. Besides the tacos, I’ve also tried their gringa which is a larger flour tortilla filled with al pastor meat, melted heese, cilantro and onions. Very similar to their taco, but slightly larger with cheese and the flour tortilla. Also very good I haven’t tried their other menu items, but i’ll be sure to come back frequently in the next few months. Although i’m no expert, their horchata seemed pretty good to me. The staff is extremely friendly and the food usually comes out quickly. Los Guachos is definitely deserving of its praise and a gem of a restaurant in Columbus.

I would be here every day if there was one in Polaris/Lewis Center/Powell area; aka closer to home. When I do have a chance to make it here, I go to the location off of Bethel rd out of the 2. It’s a smaller location that has seating for about 40 – 50 people. Each time I’ve gone it’s been for lunch and its ALWAYS packed. There is not wait service, so you order at the counter and they call your name once your food is ready. I recommend their chips and salsa and their tacos. Their salsa is one of my favorites and always hits the spot. They have a variety of tacos to choose from and they are priced per taco(fish, chicken, pork, etc: even cow tongue tacos, haha) I have tried many and never had any complaints. I did see a friend order a quesadilla and it’s not your typical quesadilla most people imagine. It’s pretty small. I wouldn’t be full off of one. Can’t wait to have time to return again!

I LOVE this place! Hands down my go to place to stop in Columbus for fast, delicious, cheap food. I have tried most of their tacos and a number of burritos but my favorite is Gringas– al pastor with pineapple and melted cheese. I could eat 3 of these easily which is what I did. And I love all the different toppings they offer with my favorite being a mix of what looks to be white and red onions marinated in soy sauce and chile peppers. It sets my mouth on fire but I love the flavor of this accoutrement.

Los Guachos is absolutely delicious food. As a testament to the quality of the flavor and products they assemble, Guachos has accumulated a strong reputation not only locally, but also nationally. My family begs to come here regularly to eat. The mere thought of eating a Gringa right now has me in a Pavlovian state of salivation. Between my wife and kids, we have tried a good amount of things on the menu, and I can attest to the consistency and competency of the food program. The specialty of the house is the Pastor pork. Over the years, I have come to order one thing only: Gringas al Pastor. I get 5 of them every time. Every time. The Gringa is on my list of favorite-most-craveable-items in Columbus. If you are a lover of Mexican Cuisine and find yourself in doubt of where to eat, come here. Highly Recommend.

Came here while visiting Columbus for the first time. With all the fancy options right near us in Short North, I reluctantly let my girlfriend drag me all the way out here. Suffice it to say, that’s the last time I’ll question her! Well, at least regarding food… This place was every bit as good as Unilocal makes it out to be. It had a real authentic feel(with the giant bowl of onions on the table) and the tacos were top notch. We already had more formal dinner plans, so we decided to share four tacos as a pre-dinner snack. We got the al pastor, brisket, chorizo, and lamb barbacoa(on special). All four were on point, but the lamb barbacoa was out of this world… the lamb was so crispy it reminded us of bacon. My girlfriend assured me I’d never find another lamb barbacoa taco in my life, which made me shed a tear. The chorizo was also exceptional. The best part may have been the prices, as our total came to less than $ 6.50. This place is an absolute must stop if you like Mexican.

There are quite some authentic Mexican restaurant spotted around the town. Today, I discover another little Mexican shop that located close to Sawmill Road. Los Guachos Taqueria is a small shop and be expect to share the table when it’s super busy. Their food choice is very similar to some other little Mexican Restaurant. Taco, Tortas, Quesadillas… But they do have some differentiate factors that you should give this shop a try. First, they have special wooden booth and tables. On top of that, you can choose to seat on the sliver bar table and see the chef freshly make your order. Second, they have big bowl of salsa and lime sit on top of every table. So you can top your food as your own liking.

I did not give Los Guachos as much credit when I had initially visited. THISPLACEISTHEBESTMEXICANFOODPLACEINCOLUMBUS. Hands down! Everything tastes fresh. The décor is something else, but it gives a very homey feel. The horchata is FRESH. According to my bf, it was the freshest horchata he’s every had in his life, and we both spent a number of years living in San Diego, CA! I love the service here. I am always happy to see this place very busy! It’s almost always been packed no matter what time of day or night I arrive. It’s a great late night place to eat. Come on a Monday night and you can get BOGO al pastor tacos! Hasn’t been anywhere else in the states I’ve visited so far where I can spend $ 1.50 for a taco on any day of the week! Unheard of, and I absolutely love it here! **Also, everyone. Do the place a favor, and clean up after yourself! The staff is busy enough as it is. The place is always packed, and we’d all love to sit down when you’re done without having to clean up after you!**

Wow. This place is pretty amazing. The price is right($ 1.50 tacos!), the food is fast, and the tacos taste like heaven. It’s like going to get some gourmet tacos in short north but instead of spending $ 20 each, you spend $ 6. There is always a line. Also pretty little seating so just come prepared to take out if that’s the case.

This place is just amazing. I moved to Columbus from Austin, TX a year ago and have sadly not been able to find the good proper Mexican tacos I miss and crave so much. Gauchos does just that and more! Their tacos are authentic and simple, corn torts with a protein of choice and minimal toppings(cilantro/onion) — al pastor, spicy shrimp, brisket, and beef tongue are so yummy! Also the tortas are enough to share with one another, as well as the burritos. I’ve recommended this place to many friends and people just visiting the city. Weekends are super busy and it’s a small spot but takeout works great too. I usually sit at the bar with a rice horchata :) Best tacos I’ve found in CBus

Long overdue review! This small restaurant is hard to find because of the small wording on the sign and there is limited parking but it’s worth the hassle. The food comes out real quick and they have incredible sauces. My friends and i went on a Saturday. There was a continuous line that just wouldn’t stop. Already a good sign. I got the Al pastor gringas and the fried fish taco! The gringas were amazing! I couldnt stop saying«mmm oh my mmmm» and then when i had the fried fish tacos i was amazed again! It has a little kick because of the spicy sauce but it tasted really good! They have extra peppers and limes for you on the table so you can flavor it to your style! My friends and i will be back! :)

These are probably the best tacos I’ve had. Period. You can not go wrong with the al pastor or the chorizo tacos and some horchata to wash it down. Two stories: 1. I had just started a new job and I noticed Los Guachos was nearby. I told my manager I was heading there for lunch and the response I got was«If you’re going to Los Guachos, I want to go too. Do you mind if I drive?» A few weeks after this I took my wife to this location and when we left she said«maybe you can pick some up and bring them home for dinner sometime.» If you have a craving for tacos, make the trip to Los Guachos. You won’t be disappointed.

The BEST Mexican restaurant in the entire city of Columbus. Maybe world, but I can’t make that statement at this time. I have never gotten something that I didn’t love. Luckily, we live about a half a mile from this fantastic restaurant. On a weekly basis, we order about $ 20 worth of food from Los Gauchos which is probably more calories than we need in a day. On my fiancé’s plate is always the El Favorito burrito and an al pastor taco. The burrito is messy, sweet and deliciously tasty. If you haven’t heard, the al pastor taco is rated one of the best in the country. I usually switch it up but always get at least one taco. The fried fish taco is AMAZING. It has one piece of fried fish with lettuce and a spicy sauce wrapped in a soft tortilla that you’ll devour in minutes. Then, I always get the chips and salsa because you just have to do that. They have a black bean salsa that’s pretty good but then a green avocado salsa that I always get extra of. Joel always gets extra of the habanero super spicy red salsa but that one makes me sweat a little too much. Last time I ventured here, I got the hibiscus water and it was fantastic. I have no idea what it really is but it’s slightly sweet and super refreshing. Overall, this place is cheap, fantastically delicious and has a great vibe in its little random strip mall.

Having eaten here a handful of times now based on the raving reviews on here, I have to conclude this place is overrated. The tacos al pastor are tasty but they are a bit skimpy on the meat, and pretty much everything else we have tried on the menu has been disappointing. Most recently I tried the steak tacos and found them to be very dry and not very flavorful. The meat was again skimpy and there wasn’t much else on it to add flavor. The husband had the Guacho Burrito and it was extremely greasy. We’ve never had such a greasy burrito before! I mean there was a pool of grease on his plate and more kept dripping out of it as he ate. Yuck. The food always comes with a thick slice of cucumber on the side which seems like a half-assed attempt at a garnish. If it were thinner slices you could at least add it to your tacos, but as it is all you can do is munch on this big plain slice of cucumber, which I always eat anyway to cleanse my palate because I find the food so disappointing. I think the communal bowls of dried out lime wedges and onions/peppers on the table are kind of gross — who knows who’s been sneezing on them or using their dirty hands to grab them before you got there. Just not worth dealing with the crowds to eat here in my opinion. There are several other excellent taco places in the area we’ll be frequenting instead(Hass, Taco Loco).

I’ve eaten here many times before, the food is great BUT as they have become more popular and busier the services seems to be overwhelmed. I waited for 30 minutes @ lunchtime for basically 3 tacos, other people kept getting food that ordered after me and the staff simple could not make my food for me. Disappointed and a little hungry right now.

A complete 180 compared to my Gahanna Los Guachos experience. My al pastor tacos at the Gahanna location were a horrible mesh-up of super dry, almost crumbly, marinated pork. No thick rectangle dice of pineapple, just a few diced squares. Yes, I had to douse those two puppies. The steak wasn’t bad, but that dinner did not leave a positive lasting impression. I normally don’t give second chances, but since the Godown Los Guachos made it to the 100 List, I had a nagging voice that kept creeping in trying to convince me that the northwest joint was worth it — just give it a try, Gwen! Fast forward. No work the next day, so why not make an excursion west to silence the voice. Got here around 6 pm, a line already formed for to-gos. I already knew I had to try their Original Al Pastor Taco. Happened to notice a small board stating that the daily special was Gringas for $ 2. Ordered one of each. Holy Porky, Bugs Bunny! So many out of this world fantastic things going for these tacos. First, both had an insanely huge amount of al pastor. I could see the meat’s juicy all over those shavings. Unique idea to give each pastor taco a think shaving of pineapple — much more flavor! The Gringos was just as good, chuck full of pork, but the addition of melted cheese? Shiver of ecstasy! The Gringos special was too good to pass up, so I even ordered a few to-go — that’s gonna make one happy lunch ;p I’m without-words glad I made it to this original Guachos. I can’t even imagine going to another, now that I’ve tasted this food!

Very pleasant surprise. This is an anonymous-looking place in a strip mall. It has a small dining room with counter service. But damn if it isn’t the best Mexican I’ve had in Columbus. This isn’t your Mexican equivalent of Olive Garden like most Columbus Mexican places. This is the real deal. The star of the show is the al pastor, flavorful pork cooked on a spit and shaved off onto your food like gyro meat, but tastier. We had the al pastor tacos on corn tortillas and gringas, as well as the chorizo tacos and chips and guacamole. That’s six tacos, the gringas, and the chips and guac, a very filling meal for two, for only seventeen bucks. The meat is flavorful and crispy. It is sweetened by a bit of pineapple, which you can even out with lime and the pickled habaneros and onions that sit on the table(be careful – it’s hot as hell). Wash it all down with horchata or Mexican Coke. This is the most flavorful and interesting Mexican food in the city, and it’s a bonus that it’s dirt cheap and quick. Beware, it’s a small space and it doesn’t take many to fill it up, so be prepared to wait for a table if it’s a busy time, or get it to go. I can’t wait to go back.

This place is my favorite al pastor in the city. I’ve tried a few other places in Columbus, but this one still stays on top of my list. Now is it the best al pastor I’ve had? Nah, not quite, but it’s still pretty good. Meat has a good amount of flavor, and they put a slice of pineapple on there which brings it all together. The tortillas are kinda meh tho. And these are street tacos, so take that into account when you order. I’d say between 3 – 6 tacos is a good order depending on how hungry you are. I also tried their horchata and I was not a fan. Not sure if it was an off day, but the horchata was so bad I don’t think I’ll order it again. Prices here are pretty fair at $ 1.50/taco, and the BOGO special on Monday is a must. The place gets pretty crowded and the parking lot is small, so you might have to use the lots behind the building or in the other shopping plaza. And be prepared to wait a while, cause they do tend to get backed up with both the dine-in orders and the to-go orders. Overall, my favorite taqueria in Columbus and definitely worth a visit.

I’m not sure whether claiming that you have the best Al Pastor in Columbus, OH really means anything or not, but it was enough to get me in the parking lot. A huge cone of Al Pastor features prominently behind the counter, which is always a good start. I ordered an Al Pastor taco — the pineapple is an excellent topping, a Chorizo taco — deliciously spicy, and a Carne Asada taco — I found it to be a little bland and dry. All were served on double corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. They are on the small side like most street tacos, but only cost $ 2 so make sure you order enough. They came with a very spicy(but delicious) salsa, a medium green salsa, and a cucumber/lime bag. They very well may have the best Al Pastor in Columbus, OH but it is not the best I have ever had and I think I will continue my search for the best Al Pastor in Columbus. It’s not a bad idea to go to El Gaucho, but I wouldn’t make a special trip to go there. The restaurant does not take American Express.

I’m just going to start off this review saying I just don’t understand the hype for this place. We came here on a Monday night after hearing so many glowing reviews about this place. There was a bogo deal on their al pastor tacos which was a nice surprise for us first timers. However, we weren’t expecting the line out the door. We were cool with waiting in line. It was a decent deal and surly the food would live up to the hype. After waiting 15 minutes in line, we finally made our order. My significant other got 4 al pastor tacos and I got the pastor torta. Then we again waited. 30 minutes of just standing there. We were getting hungrier every minute. The food better be worth this wait. Finally we get our food and take it home. My wife opens her container and notices they had stacked the tacos on top of each other. A little worrisome but she gave it a go. The tacos that were on top ended up getting soggy on the bottoms because they were put on top of these chunks of pineapple. We also couldn’t believe how little of everything they give you on the taco. The meat tastes fine, nothing too spectacular and the pineapple did add a nice bit of sweetness to it but the ratio of tortilla to meat/pineapple was pretty off. I had my torta and I can definitely say it was delicious. I loved the refried beans on the sandwich and the meat went very well with the other toppings. Overall, I’d say this place doesn’t live up to what everyone says. I don’t think it should be deemed 3rd best taco in the country. By no stretch of the imagination should it. 3rd best in Columbus? It’s possible. The torta was great but I can’t see myself waiting that long again for this food. I guess the big thing I wanted to get out of this review is this place is not worth it.

We live in Cleveland and came here twice in 9 days. Granted, we had other plans bringing us this direction, but after discovering the al pastor tacos here, there was no way we couldn’t stop again. I don’t particularly like pork, but somehow I love al pastor tacos and THESE al pastor tacos in particular are so freaking amazing. I usually eat 2 tacos, maybe 3 if I’m super hungry, but these make me want to just stuff myself silly so I can continue tasting them. The meat is a perfect combination of melt-in-your-mouth and crispy on the edges. Topped with plenty of onions, cilantro, a little shaving of pineapple, and a lime wedge to finish it and you’ve got taco heaven. Do NOT pass through this area without grabbing some tacos and a Coca-Cola at Los Guachos.

I went to Los Guachos for the Monday buy-one-get-one-free al pastor tacos(2 tacos for $ 1.50). Al pastor tacos are why most people come to Los Guachos and they really are some of the best tacos I’ve had in Columbus. Each taco is made with 2 small corn tortillas, spiced/marinated pork roasted on a spit(similar to gyro meat or doner kebab), a slice of roasted pineapple, diced onions, and cilantro. As served, the tacos are sort of bland in flavor and are missing some of the essential grease necessary for good, cheap Mexican food. But once you top them with salsa(spicy red, green tomatillo), hot pickled onions and peppers, and lime juice available at your table, they transform into something quite flavorful. I also got a piña colada drink, which was non-alcoholic. It was good, but tasted a little more like horchata without cinnamon to me than any other piña colada I’ve ever had. It was sweet, milky, and tasty, just not what I was expecting. We went on Monday night around 7:45pm and the restaurant was super crowded. The parking lot was full and the ordering line was out of the door(literally). We probably had a 15 – 20 minute wait to order and then another 15 – 20 minute wait for food. Definitely worth the wait, but just be aware if you’re in a time crunch. The food was very cheap. We got 10 al pastor tacos and a piña colada for less than $ 10(for reference, I ate 3 tacos and my bf ate 7).

There’s some lines and a pepper-salsa thing sitting on every table and they don’t really tell you what it is. It’s extremely hot. Be careful! The tacos are delicious here. They’re super small so get a lot of them. I think my favorite was the al pastor, the rotating spit of pork and pineapple chunks. Other than that, the steak was kinda dry so avoid that and go for the lengua(beef tongue). Wayyyy better than the steak tacos. They have a lot of other items here like tortas, burritos, etc. But I wouldn’t pass up the tacos. It’s all super cheap here too. We fed 5 people for $ 30!
