Once upon a time my girlfriend drove me to Stained Skin so I could get a tattoo she had designed for me. Before we could head in, though, we had to wait for help, because she had locked her keys in her car– while the car was running. Nice! While we waited for said help to arrive, I had a chance to stop into Luigi’s Pawn Shop. I am by no means a pawn shop connoisseur, but I have to say I had fun browsing Luigi’s– and not just because it’s named after the better of the Mario Brothers. The place was bright, open, and inviting– not at all like you’d picture a pawn shop to be if you listen to stories of shady junkies hocking stolen goods for a fix. I didn’t buy anything– I was only waiting for help, remember– but I saw a few keyboards that I wanted to play with, and a few video games for decent prices I wouldn’t mind browsing through again. That’s about that, though. This is a pawn shop, plain and simple. Buy, sell, trade– anything of value, they claim– if you need to pawn or you need a deal… here ya go.

I have not spent a vast amount of time in pawn shops, although I have to say I have always been intrigued which them. The first time I set foot in Luigi’s was soon after my first decent mountain bike had been stolen and I was doing some of my own investigative work. The second time was when I wanted a laptop for super cheap. The first experience did not end well(never did figure out what happened to that bike) but I have to say the second experience ended quite well. In fact, I am using the laptop right now to type this review — thanks Luigi’s! In case you are wondering it is a decent Toshiba laptop(by no means the top of the line but well appointed and about 2 years old by now) that I bought a year and a half ago for around $ 350.
