I’d be willing to give the Macy’s furniture outlet a second shot on the basis of my aunt getting a great deal on a pleather loveseat, but my first visit here was pretty underwhelming. I came to browse for mattress sets, as I plan to finally stick a fork in my rickety twin bed when I move in a few months’ time. While there were plenty of full and queen-size mattresses, most fell in the $ 700 – 800 price range, which seems egregious for merchandise that was either discontinued, returned or couldn’t be sold in a regular Macy’s store. I was similarly unimpressed with their selection of dressers, most of which had been scratched or damaged. I could find the same(or better) quality items on for two thirds of the price. I’m sure there are treasures to be found with repeated visits, but I didn’t get the sense there was much I couldn’t find at Value City for more reasonable prices.

First, let me say that I made the trip up to Columbus specifically to come here. I am in need of some new furniture and had heard that this place was amazing and awesome and that I HAD to check it out. ***Disclaimer: all the pieces here are scratch and dent or otherwise unfit to sell in the regular retail store*** Which, when you are trying to snaz up your place on a budget isn’t a bad way to go, but I was amazed at how high these prices were for items that were basically destroyed cosmetically. Not just scratched or dented but entire pieces(think table legs) missing and still for 100’s of dollars. That being said the other part of this experience that really left a sour taste in my mouth was the salesman that spoke to us. He approached and asked if we were doing ok and if we knew how the prices worked. We said we didn’t and he condescendingly told us «Well that’s why you should ask huh?»…Ok Excuse me? Rude. But I tried to roll it off. Then he continued to talk down to us about why we had walked around the store without seeking assistance from a sales associate. Sometimes you just want to browse… right? We left pretty quickly after that. One star for me. Didn’t care for the selection. Didn’t find it a good value for the product and detested the service.

I’ll preface this review with the fact that I am a bargain hunter. A deal finding diva, if you will. If you’re my kind of people, read on. My first experience at the Macy’s Furniture Gallery was a good one. Firstly, it should be explained that this is not your average furniture store. This is a discount outlet store. The lady working told us that there are only 5 of these stores throughout the country and Columbus has one of them. The furniture here may be discontinued at Macy’s, it might be a damaged item, or it could also be a custom order someone changed their mind on. Any way, though, you’re most likely going to get an awesome deal. The only catch: ALLSALESAREFINAL! No returns, no exchanges, Macy’s never wants to see this stuff again. The biggest selection they have here were for couches, dining tables, area rugs, and mattresses. I just moved in with my boyfriend and we have no furniture, so we came here just to look around and I ended up with a beautiful new dresser(not damaged at all, just something that was discontinued). The original price of the dresser was $ 700. With tax, I got it for $ 301. Now, there’s one more catch about this place. You are not allowed to load your items into your own vehicle. They have movers that do the loading, however, they are only there Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. I happened to go in on a Tuesday, so I had to pay for my dresser, they moved it to the back and wrapped it up, then I had to come back and pick it up Saturday. So, if that is something you don’t like the sounds of, just come on one of the days there is movers and you can take your stuff with you. It didn’t bother me, but might turn off some folks. I have a feeling this place might be hit or miss, but the discounts were great and the quality of the furniture is excellent(even some of the imperfect pieces were things I would still buy). It was worth the drive out here to find a deal, for sure.
