Orton is a small library but an acceptable place to study between classes if you’re in one of the nearby buildings. The tables are oddly set up; there are very large wooden tables with chairs but no group studying allowed. It would make a lot more sense to have individual desks or private areas for students to study but the library largely lacks these. Also, the wooden chairs and table are hard as a rock and very uncomfortable for an extended period of time. I wouldn’t seek out Orton as a study area, and there are many better options.

I’ve noticed a couple Unilocal friends reviewing their discoveries on OSU’s campus, but no one has yet mentioned the Geology library(which is adjacent to the Orton Geological Museum – )! This small library on the south side of the Oval is worth checking out! I’m not much for geology but the foyer was built with many different types of stone native to Ohio, and it’s pretty neat to see the variety. The space is charmingly old and creaky, with a narrow windaround staircase to the upstairs, which is a wraparound balcony overlooking the main hall. There are also lots of maps in the adjoining upstairs room if you’re into maps(see their website for more map info: ). The hours are a bit limited if you’re looking for a place to study, but it’s a neat diversion from your stroll across the Oval. Closed on Saturday, but open 2 – 6 on Sunday.
