I have been going to shades for a few months now, since it was reopened and I have heard that it was under new management and they do not serve pork but however I was still blown away by the taste of the food. They also began accepting credit and debit cards recently. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any body.

I have been going to Shades for a long time and I have jus went for my last time. its under new management so I said baby let’s try them out. BADIDEA. the new owners don’t believe in pork products so they just lost me there. Breakfast without pork bacon or sausage is not breakfast to me. I should have known something was up with the food because no one was there but my lady and I and the people that worked there. the coffee was even bad. it tasted like it was a week old. the only reason I gave 1 star because they didn’t charge me for this garbage.

This place is under New Ownership and I am impressed. The only thing that appears to be different is that the new owners don’t serve pork. You can get turkey/beef instead. I ordered the beef bacon/cheese omelette, hash browns and toast. The omelette was excellent, I could not even tell it was beef bacon, and on top of that they loaded it with bacon aka beefcan! The hashbrowns were not bad either. Omelette 1−5=5. Hash 1−5=3. Toast 1−5=4. The customer service was great as well. Just remember this place does not accept cards, they still remain cash only.

I had never really heard of Shades until it popped up in a Unilocal app search. What a goofy name for a breakfast diner. No wonder no one has heard of it; it sounds like a dodgy strip club. It’s one of those breakfast/lunch only places and closes at 2:30 sharp. Surprisingly large dining area, and a fun diner counter to watch your food be prepared. Lots of regulars too(an eclectic mix, no less), from the looks of it. About the best thing I can say is that the food is effin’ cheap. We’re talking five dollars cheap if you only drink water. You’ll probably want a coffee though, which is $ 1.45, I think. On the downside, ketchup and jelly are served out of these kinda gross little jars, complete with plastic serving spoons. Pretty yucky. CASHONLY

Stopped in to grab something to eat while we waited to fly home. From the outside I wasn’t impressed and thought we made a bad decision. Once we we were in I started to warm up to it. It has a very classic diner feel which is always a sign of good food. Once my food hit my plate I knew we made the right choice. The best breakfast I have had in a long time. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. I can’t wait to visit Columbus again just so I can eat at shades again.

Do you love breakfast? Do you love divey, gritty joints full of character? Does the plastic fakery of chain restaurants turn you off? Then Shades is for you. A favorite spot to meet with friends for a homegrilled breakfast. Service has always been attentive, friendly and prompt and the food on my plate tasty.

This was just aboot the worst I’ve had in Columbus. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet and it was awful. I left half of it on my plate. Enough said!

This place hasn’t changed in 40 years — and there is no reason for any change. The people who work here are sweetly efficient, the food is consistently well made(I’ve been here 30+ times), and the customers are real folks. If you want a real diner, Shade’s is the place.

The place is slightly run down. The food was great. Service was good. Pay in cash. I felt like I got a slice of real town Columbus.

This restaurant was great. Should be on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The PANCAKES are amazing. The Grits were perfect. The Bacon was good. and the Sweet Tea was very close to Southern Sweet Tea. The people were great and the atmosphere was very reminiscent of your classic diner. The people who came in there were working class to business.
