Bike riding with a friend from Virgina, his son with us had never been to Ohio, when we rode up under Woody Hayes Drive the sons yells«the Horseshoe, the Horseshoe!» as if we came upon the Coliseum in Rome. It surprising how something we disregard as everyday background noise is seen by a budding 12-year old as a national icon. I just had to show them around my Alma Moter. Getting thirsty, we took a trip to here the Ohio State Bookstore, in the Enarson Building, to buy some OJ. Here the memories flowed – of sitting with a hotdog and can of Dr Pepper out in the round opening amount the now faded tiles of mathematical symbols; of running to get cash, to charge a printing card, to print a paper, due in 5– minutes; of stress and studying and people watching; of buying books, and paper, and finally that cap and gown. The bookstore, of course, had changed. No longer a text emporium – in the age of IPads I imagine everything in now in Apple Books or other assorted players – it now is basically a quickie-mart plus Buckeye apparel. Tons of clothing, some interesting, some banal vie for attention with the coolers of power drinks and ect. Price for the clothing, of course, are set by material cost+ surcharge for having the word, symbol, or design of «Ohio State”+surcharge for buying it at Ohio State+added charge to cover Urban Meyer’s salary+profit. Ok I’m joking, but some of the clothing you can get cheaper at a grocery store. Though my friend just had to buy his son a tee – a buckeye fan in the making. The area were once the 7⁄11 like junk food, junk drinks were is now merchandise with electronic. More Steve Jobs than Woody Hayes it sells Apple and HP products at standard price. It certainly slicked out like an Apple Store, with funky electronica blaring out and strobe like lighting. The downstairs area is gone. Over all, I like the change.

The Ohio State University bookstore is located on the first floor of the Enarson Classroom Building. I stop by at least once every game day Saturday. In addition to text books, has a good selection of apparel and all other things buckeye. There’s an ATM in the lobby. It is operated by Barnes & Noble, so they don’t accept Buckeye Club(discounts) cards. On cold Saturdays it is a great place to warm up. The build also has several restrooms open to the public.
