The Smithery

I am so happy and excited to be the first review for The Smithery! My fiancé and I did some research to see if anyone in the area provided wedding rings made from recycled metals, and lo and behold, there was one in Grandview! Not only are they local, they offer a workshop where you can make your own wedding rings in under 6 hours. WHAT?!? We had a short consultation prior to the workshop to discuss what it would entail, as well as picking a day to work on the rings. We chose to do it all in one day, but they also offer to split it over two evenings if necessary. We paid for our costs up front, which is a flat rate for the workshop and whatever additional costs for the materials of your choice. We went with sterling silver, so the cost was very affordable.
Today we went in to make the rings, and it was such a cool experience! Along with the cost of our rings, we were provided a lunch, photos of us as we made the rings, and a bottle of bubbly and a bouquet of flowers to take home! Not only was it really neat to complete the process from beginning to end, but we got to solder our own rings. Yes, I was given a small blowtorch and trusted not to set myself on fire! We worked with Anne, and she showed us step-​by-​step what to do and helped us along the way. I was a bit paranoid that my end product would be kind of crappy, as I have zero experience and not a very steady hand. These fears were for naught, as the rings turned out really nice and it was a fairly easy process. Not only that, Anne was super personable and easy to talk to. She told us all about her business and how they ended up in their space in Grandview.
Not only can you make your own wedding bands, but they have many other workshops to make necklaces or other pieces of jewelry. They will also work with you if you are looking to have a custom piece made. The front space is full of jewelry as well as other crafts and artwork made by local and regional artisans. There are so many items here that would make a special gift for someone in your life that likes handmade goods! I cannot say enough nice things about our experience, and I can’t wait to show off our new rings once we’re married! I know that I will enjoy thinking about this special day whenever I look at my wedding band.
