I haven’t been back to this place in a year, and I have avoided a review because a family member was still a client. Needless to say, she is no longer a client due to her own bad experience. I decided to take a chance on this place when I moved back to Michigan. I couldn’t get in at another salon where I had received a recommendation. This place had good reviews so I figured I would try it. My previous stylist of 5 years said it is common place for salons to match color formulas from one line to another when you have the formula. She also stated that any reputable salon would be able to do this with a little research. This salon does not do this. I will first say the stylist I was placed with, while very nice, had virtually no confidence in her ability… not a good way to start. She hemmed and hawed over my color. When it was done(the first time) my roots were orange(I wanted a very dark brown with a violet undertone) and did not at all match the pull through. She had to redo the color. Since this put the stylist behind, she had me see the esthetician while I was processing. This began the uncomfortable experience of being, literally, in the middle of the stylist and the esthetician arguing over the schedule. Awkward! As a side note, threading at this salon is quite pricey compared to other places I have not tried in the area. I don’t mind paying it if I am happy with the results. After the second round of color, I was no longer embarrassed to go on our upcoming vacation; however, the color was not what I asked for. Moving on to the trim… She cut my hair. I asked for a trim. Getting nervous with every snip, I realized my long layers were no longer long. I knew I was in real trouble when the stylist said she gave me her particular cut. She had a ton of short layers. YIKES! Over 3 hours later, they gave me a discount on services due to my experience, I walked out knowing I wouldn’t see the stylist or esthetician ever again. SO reasonably, one would ask why I would go back. The original recommendation I received on a stylist ended up moving to this salon. Assuming I may get something different with someone who received such rave reviews, I had hoped she would get the color right… nope. She told me the formula was like a foreign language and wouldn’t research it. I gave her a few chances but she never got it the way I wanted it. I never returned. Since then, I have been to 2 other salons, that researched it and got it right. The family member stopped going when she was not told her stylist no longer worked there. This is someone she has seen for years before she joined Tru. She was not happy to not be informed, especially since she was having her hair done for a special occasion. To add insult to injury, during a call to the salon, the individual on the other line kept referring to her as «Hun»…she is not the type of person to call«Hun». She later realized it was the owner of the salon on the other end of the phone. She took no responsibility for not informing her of the stylist’s exit. There is certainly a lack of professionalism here, and beyond this particular episode, the front desk staff could use training on how to speak with clients.

I have been going to see Cheri at Tru Salon for a long time and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. It’s a beautiful salon and everyone there is like family. Cheri is the best at finding you the perfect color and really listens to what you are saying. They have a really good selection of product but don’t push you to buy. Both of my kids have been going since they were young. Casandra does the best blow out EVER. Highly recommend the salon.

I got a blow out done by Wendy. Super nice lady, but it seemed like she didn’t know how to do a proper blow out. She put so much product in my hair and even asked me if I wanted her to curl my hair with an iron so it gets volume. I thought to myself that blowing out my hair should give it volume like it has in the past. When she was done blowing out my hair it was as flat as if she used a straightening iron. So she curled it and continued to spray so much product into my hair. It got all over my face many times. When she was finally done my hair did not feel soft and was full of tangles. It looked messy and not what I expected, but she assured me that«she would no charge me for her curling my hair». Maybe she felt as if she did me a favor but I left extremely dissatisfied. Again she was a sweetheart but I won’t be coming back to tru salon to get a blowout again.

Granted i have thicker hair and have a hard time finding a stylist capable of giving me a proper hair cut without a return visit, this place is misery in its purest. i was constantly reminded that the remedial work being performed was done by a professional. i was constantly reminded that she knows best. i was condescended and was forced to leave with a mullet.

I have never had a bad visit here. I see Sheri, the owner and she is so down to earth and a great stylist. She takes her time and offers suggestions, which I appreciate. I have to mention I love the customer appreciation parties that they have. The last one I received a free eye brow threading — no pain, amazing! Location is convenient, I will be back!

I use Bethany Esper at Tru Salon and Spa and I couldn’t be more pleased with her! I have very long curly hair and so many stylists in the past have been woefully incompetent when it comes to my curls. Her cuts look fab out the door and grow out beautifully. I would recommend her to anyone!
