I was in the search of a cake or some kind of pastry for my godsons birthday party. I work in DTLA so i wanted something reasonable since i feel most of the cupcakes, donut shops, bakeries near DTLA are becoming more hip therefore kind of expensive. Finally i decided on cake. I know he likes 3 leches so I was specifically looking for that kind of cake. Came across La Monarca in Commerce since this is the city they live in. i went to this location it was clean, quiet and the 2 girls working there where nice. I had never been or tasted anything from this bakery so i asked to try about 4 different cakes. She was real kind and patient with me not once did i feel like my questions or request bothered her. All cakes were really good tasting and not to sweet(I prefer it that way), I ended up buying a 3 leches cake and a iced coffee. Everyone at the party liked the cake, it taste good and the price was reasonable.

I highly recommend the Orejas. They are so crispy and flaky, yet not overly sweet. The baker offered my mom and I a sample of the tequila lime cake and it was pretty good. My mom ended buying a slice and it was so good.

I ate some of the cookies(from the front display) while I waited for my hot chocolate, they were good but kind of pricey(50¢ each/small cookie). Friendly service just needs some cleaning but it was late at night so can’t really knock them for that.

This place is great! Their coffee is good, especially the«Café de la olla». Their polvorones cookies are delicious as well. I’ve tried the soy chorizo quiche and that is a two thumbs up item too. Overall a great place to have a snack. Great service too.

Food is great and coffee is good as well. Clean place. However the management is not very friendly or nice especially to their women employees. My order was interrupted by a male manager to go over some receipts. He could have waited until the girl who was helping was finished. He also expressed his distaste for the two girls who were working. Keep in mind this place just opened so the employees are still working on things which is fine with me but when management points it out and makes it a bigger deal than it is it bothers me. Yeah… so if the one fit the appearance it would be great.

Chai Tea Latte is my womans favorite drink from there. The conchitas are delicious and I like to have their hot chocolate. Need to try more items to give it a proper description. That means it is good enough for a second try. Their Horchata cake is moist and yummy. It certainly satisfied my fluffy tummy!

So my mom and I decided to give this place a try because we were looking to buy a cake for a New Years party. At first we didn’t really want to go in… lol But the smell of coffee inside the bakery is what definitely grabbed us in. Being the coffee addicts that we are, I tried the coffee and Boy was it good!!! The employee was also nice enough to gives us small samples of different cakes, so choosing was a bit easier. We ended up buying the flan that they sell and it was delicious :)

This place has fresh ingredients and the pastries are always soft and fresh. One thing I like about this place is how clean it is. The girls are always keeping this shop clean. I recommend to try café de olla. It’s cinnamon coffee with their delicious agave cookies! Try it!

This is like a 3.7 for me LOL Only because I haven’t tried many of their savory items and I’m not a fan of their Pan dulce :( So on our way to Fruitland I noticed La monarca and I just knew I had to go in on the way back, glad I did! We walked in, grabbed a tray and tongs and I went bread happy LOL ok not that bad but my eyes were wide open. So I picked a few things and I went over to the left and got some cookies and a slice of strawberry shortcake, so I thought. Anywho service at that time was nice enough and has gotten better each visit(even made a new friend,) and I was on my way. Got home and started to taste as usual. The pan dulce are smaller than your usual Mexican delights. With them being smaller, they’re also in my opinion a little dense and miss that moist factor, even after a quick trip in the microwave. The whole wheat croissant and circular pastry were not so good. I thought the circular one would be filled with something and there was nothing to be had inside :(So if you’re a Pan dulce fan, just go to El gallo giro a few feet away: D The cakes are BOMB!!! The first two visits they kept giving me other things but the damn Strawberry shortcake I asked for!!! First time they gave me Strawberry cheesecake and I didn’t even know til I got home and the second time they gave me a strawberry yogurt cup o_O like HUH! Finally on the damn 3rd and 4th visit they got it right LOL. I won’t lie, that strawberry cheesecake was BOMB!!! So that first mistake was totally forgiven because it gave me a chance to try something different. The strawberry yogurt parfait was blah and that’s my fault because Starlet had it fresh and I tried it 3 days later so it’s not like I had it fresh. Not their fault. The strawberry shortcake was good, light and fluffy whipped cream. Not to heavy. I also bought my sister a Fruit tart cake slice and that was good as well. They sure know how to do cakes. I would order one for a birthday. The cookies are my families favorite. On the first visit my mom said they had an aftertaste but my sister loved them. After that my mother has fallen in love with the cookies. Maybe she ate something that first time, that messed up her taste buds :)) Every time I come I always stck up on various cookies. My last visit, I tried one savory thing and that was the cheddar and pepper quiche. Took that home and warmed it up and topped it with salsa. SOOOOOOOO good. Very clean. Not oily at all. I can’t wait to try the others. I really want to try their mollette sampler. That looks goooooood. Overall every time I’m in the area, I will ALWAYS come in.

I’ve been hearing so much about La Monarca I wanted to visit when I was close by one of their locations. They seem to be rapidly expanding and I wanted to see why. I’ve had a taste of their pastries over the years during my annual visits to Tacolandia and was excited to finally visit one of their bakeries. This location has the look of a standard, bakery chain. They source their coffee beans it seems from Oaxaca. I had an iced, flavored coffee, but not too impressed by it. It’s probably as good as the McDonald’s iced coffee I get from time-to-time out of drive through convenience sorry to say. Tierra Mia I think impressed me more with their recommended horchata latte. I know they are different drinks, but I am comparing their highly recommended items. We did a tasting of their pastries including the ever so popular conchas. Living in Los Angeles, I’ve had these pastries through the year at hole-in-the-wall Mexican and Salvadorean bakeries, and also at Vallarta numerous times. I’ve find these smaller conchas to be among the best, if not the best I’ve tasted so far. Something about them being smaller than usual made them more appealing to me. It’s didn’t seem as dry as the other versions I’ve tasted. I also enjoyed the icing on top of the conch. The cookies were quite good as well and wouldn’t hesitate revisiting La Monarca for their pastries. If I saw one location in passing, I would not hesitate to stop by for a conch or some cookies! Looks like this growing chain has 7 locations in Los Angeles — 5 stars for the conchas and Mexican cookies! This is probably the best quality I have tasted from a Mexican bakery in Los Angeles.

This bakery satisfies ALL kinds of sweet tooths! My sister has been staying with a friend that lives in the area and of course she’s finding all the good spots! The first we tried it they gave us the wrong slice of cake but it was still delicious nonetheless. This time I actually got to go in myself since we came to meet her for dinner in the area. This place has everything! Mexican cookies, panderia and delicious slices of CAKE!!! They also have a coffee bar as well, it’s pretty much your one stop shop! You can get a nice slice of cake for $ 4.00! They don’t skimp on the slice either, everything is very fresh and doesn’t taste like it came from the grocery store or a box of cake batter LOL! I really like this place and can’t wait to try other goodies! ^__^

Their Oaxacan coffee is exceptional. Of their molletes I prefer the traditional one with beans. Their conchas are firm on the outside yet soft from the inside. Plus, the sweet crust does not easily come off. I tried their Mexican wedding cookies, and though a bit dry, they are excellent with coffee or hot chocolate. I will definitely return to this place.

Their bread and coffee is always freshly made and on point. I stop by La Monarca at least 2 times per week on my way to work. I normally grab a conchita and a small iced coffee. More often than not my conchita is warm, soft, and simply delicious. In the past I’ve had their blended Oaxacan beverage. This beverage is a mix of coffee beans, and Mexican hot chocolate; it’s out of this world! I typically don’t drink sugary drinks, but the blended beverages at La Monarca are an exception. On a couple occasions, I have forgotten my lunch at home so I pick up a chicken and veggie salad. This is not your typical salad with lettuce, in fact, this salad has no lettuce. Instead the salad is made up of corn, black beans, garbanzos, cilantro, and lime. Yummy! The customer service at this location is exceptional. Even though I come here very often(I’m starting to notice that the ladies who work here recognize my face) I am always warmly greeted, and I still get samples of the different items on their menu. A definite must if you have a craving for fresh and authentic Mexican pastries.

I ordered the chicken mole torta. It was very flavorful. The mole had a sweetness to it. The pan dulce is good, too. They are small, so you don’t have to feel too guilty about trying a few. The concha has a slight sweetness, and a slightly crumbly texture. They also have cake samples upon request. Overall, it’s one of the more modern, main stream looking Mexican bakeries with solid food options.

One fine day as I was walking down the street(and trying to find something to do while my car was in the shop) looking for a Target I stumbled upon a true gem in the wild! A La Monarca Bakery! This Monarca Bakery is in an enormous and ugly strip mall in East Los. Orale!!! It is nice looking inside as all Monarca’s are and service is pretty friendly. Plus they always play great Mexican/Latin rock and pop! They played one of my favorites — Belanova — while I was there!!! This is the biggest Monarca I have been to. There’s plenty of space. I ordered an Iced Café Oaxaca(they recommend it to be frapped) and some DELICIOUS Hojarasca cookies. These items did not disappoint. They also sell a great soy chorizo quiche! Yes, you heard right! However, I am not a big fan of their pan dulce. I love Monarca Bakery because they are conscious about helping the environment. They sell milkweed seeds for planting to help the Monarch butterfly population in our beautiful town. Why do I love Monarchs so much? Besides that they are pretty they are also inhabitants of the state of Michoacan in Mexico where my family is from. Parking is no issue as they share a huge and I mean H.U.G.E. parking lot with many other businesses. This place is truly as good as it gets based on their association with Michoacan, their music, the food items I picked and their environmentally conscious approach! Five stars!

Iv’e been here twice and what I purchased was very good. They have many pastries, breads, and cakes to choose from, which are baked and made daily. I have purchased flour tortillas here which were very good! They are not fully cooked, so as you want to use them, you heat them on the stove to cook them and they are very fresh! I have also bought the mini conchas here, which were also very good. They are $ 0.50 each, very good price. They are just the right size to eat and very fresh. They have many flavors: cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, and another flavor that tasted like the Mexican wedding cookie(which was my favorite). All very good.

I drove pass here and remember the butterfly from their store in Pasadena. I remember good things from the other store, so decided to come check this one out since i’m in this area more than I am in South Pasadena. I came here to pick up a cake for my friend’s birthday. They had many samples of their cake. I had a sample of the mexican chocolate and strawberry shortcake. I was a fan of both. The girl helping me was super sweet. Very helpful. I also ended up getting a ice coffee with brown sugar and cinnamon. Always a favorite of mine here. It was super yummy with some half and half in it.(what the girl recommended) Its a cute place to pick up some coffee, pastries, or foods.
