I have been going here for about 3 years now. I like their food. They really know how to cook a steak and they are so large that it usually takes me two days to eat. Ribs, beef and turkey are also really good and my father-in-law absolutely loves their green chile tortilla soup. The only problem I have with this place is that it is a little dirty. The bases of the booths used to be yellow…

The open faced roast beef with gravy and fries is to die for. It reminds me of the roast beef and gravy my mother used to make. The service is great and the waitresses are friendly. I don’t care much for the steaks but I always get the same thing every time.

Been coming here most of my life. Still go out of my way to come here now that I don’t live in Concord. The beef doesn’t get any better. Other reviews are confusing. It must be their expectation of something else. The regulars(there are many) probably don’t Unilocal.Ask for the sauce(we call the«gravy» the sauce) on the side if unsure. I’m a hot beef medium rare person. Others will kill for the ribs.

Pretty lame if you ask me. Customer service here is terrible, no smiles, not a friendly face or voice to be seen or heard. My wife and I came here after doing some antiquing and decided to have a bite to eat. I got the Cherry pie a la mode and she got the combination plate. Needless to say, the pie wasn’t homemade the combination plate meat was good but not $ 16.00 good. The barbecue sauce tastes like someone dropped cigarette ash in it after fishing it out of the toilet. I won’t be coming back here, not only for the service and the food, but the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. Every table was sticky. You want customers? Try putting a smile on and being nice to the customers that are paying for your overpriced food. My wife was nice enough to give the server a good tip, she deserves nothing and would have gotten so if it were me. If you’re in concord, go somewhere else for BBQ…

Its a weird place or gravy and greasy meat, yet you want to keeping the damn thing because its not really bad, just spiceless. The locals that are used to this slop as food don’t know the difference in good BBQ and a worn out menu. Its a dirty hole in the wale with some kind of history, but not a BBQ joint like you’re probally used too.,

This isn’t barbecue. This is meat smothered in a weird brown gravy that doesn’t taste at all like barbecue sauce. Nice people, and the sides were yummy… but it was pricey and definitely NOT what most people would consider barbecue. The search continues.

Greasy fatty meat-nuff said. Watery oily bbq sauce. Bro in law loves this place but I just don’t get it. We gave it two tries and basically threw away the food both times. Very disappointing — stay clear. Not sure how it has lasted this long.

I have been going here for years and love the ribs but 76 $ for two racks and 2 small fries is a rip off maybe they should move to Danville. Concord is a working town with working class people.

Great food. Had a business meeting and had some fish and chips. Fried a little too long but was still delicious.

The bbq chicken, potatoe salad and french fries are good. The ribs are too fatty, not much meat. The bread the give you is a cheap hamburger bun, not good.

I love Barneys its always great no frills food for me, That being said however you have to be able to tolerate the obvious less attention to detail to the overall look of the place and the inevitable probability that the tables aren’t sparking clean. The food has always been great for me. The brown sauce to me is just awesome it is however an acquired taste

Was getting lotto tickets across the street, it smelled like awesome bbq in the air looked up and saw this place. Went in ordered a beef brisket sandwich to go, menu said 8.99 was 16.75(guess it doubles for dinner plate) no drink but I didn’t care because it smell something great outside, hurried home but that smell I was smelling wasn’t coming out the bag, you know like woodys bbq in la you can smell it coming out the bag so bad make you wanna crash your car. Anyways when I sat down to eat I was highly disappointed, it looked like two day old roast beef just sad, I believe I was bamboozled by a neighbor bbq close by

I got the ribs and beef. Excellent bbq. The restaurant feels like an old fashioned diner. Little price($ 18) but that’s what you expect for you bbq. I’d come back if I was in mood for some good bbq.

I’M tired of barney’s ruining my order with their damn pickles… once that pickle hits the plate my evening is over… removing it doesn’t help… so you can guess my displeasure when my order is for take out… If you would just pay attention to the order…

Barneys is the best BBQ in the bay area. Family owned for over 50 years. The ribs are the best they just melt in your mouth. The owners are always there and treat you like family. Take a chance and visit Barneys you won’t be disappointed and you will find yourself going back again and again.

We love Barney’s! I live in Carson City and we travel sometimes the four hours just to eat here. It has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. The décor is definitely outdated but who cares! The food is great! We love their salad and house salad dressing(like a blue cheese ranch mixture). I love the french dip medium to medium rare. Fries always come out super hot and I get it with a side of the brown sauce(our families fav!). Everyone else in my family gets the open faced sandwiches with beef!

I’ve been a big fan of the ribs at Barneys for many years Today I spent almost $ 20. On a order of ribs for lunch And they tasted like 2 day old reheated in the microwave meat :(how sad I don’t think I’ll return again

I have been coming to Barney’s for the past 15 years. I’m completely appalled by our latest dining experience. My family of 4 and a friend decide to eat here for dinner. Our friend has never been and we assure him it’s the most delicious food. Upon walking in we find one side of the seating area closed which is not unusual. However, the side which was open only had 2 tables both of which were dirty. We chose the cleaner but smaller of the 2. The waitress saw us and said she’d clean the other booth for us to sit in. Clearly she wiped the new table down with a dry rag as it was very still very sticky when we sat down. We each opened a menu and every single menu was dirty and sticky. We place our drink orders and were told a different waitress would be right with us. This other waitress never came to take our order. People who came in and sat after us not only had their order taken but were receiving their food! I ask the waitress who took our drink order if we could place our order. Instead of taking it, she looks towards the other waitress and says«I told her to take your order. I’ll tell her to get her butt over here.» Wait, what?! So we proceed to stare at each other in disbelief and wait. This waitress who was supposed to take our order still didn’t come. She chose to help the people who came in after us, keeping her back to our table and ignoring us. I look around to see if this waitress is swamped, she’s not. Most of her tables are finishing up their meals. Her only new table was the party of 2 she helped instead of helping us. I see 3 cooks in the kitchen and 2 other waitresses. No one can be bothered to help us. We finally decided to get up and walk out. Not only were will disappointed but completely embarrassed as we’d talked this place up to our friend. I hope this review finds its way to the management who can address this. You won’t keep current or gain new customers with this type of service.

My grandfather discovered this place many decades ago. This has been a go-to place for our barbeque ever since. The place is a simple diner – used to be a lady with a beehive hairstyle working there. There is one thing we almost always get here — barbequed pork open face sandwich with lots of outside. My grandfather used to ask them«Are you going to put some MEAT on that?» but there is no need to worry — -the amount of meat you get on a sandwich is huge! The pork sandwich lots of outside has really big chunks of pork, with a well-seasoned brown sauce that seems to contain some type of alcoholic drink .Very tasty sauce. There seems to be a lot more pork in these sandwiches than they used to have, and the white bread they are on pretty much flattens and disappears. FRies and a pickle come with it. The fries are nice and thick. This is great for takeout as well.

I used to drive by this place twice a day, everyday, for years… Until I was sitting in traffic one day on Clayton rd with the windows down and the sunroof open and I smelled the hickory goodness. Bear in mind folks, I have my own smoker and in my circle of friends I’m known as the BBQ master, so its pretty rare that I willingly want to go to a BBQ restaurant when I know that I can probably make the same thing, but better and for less. Anyway, my wife and a friend of hers came with me to this joint for lunch one day. Service was prompt and attentive, our server kept our drinks topped up which to me is good service. I got the hot pork, my wife and her friend got the hot beef. Prices were a little high, however the quality was delicious. I also got the brown and the red sauces on the side, and I have to agree with most Unilocalers, the red sauce is king. I can see why this place has been in business for so long. When I’m not in the mood to slow smoke a Boston Butt or a brisket, this is where I’ll turn to.

Came here for a pickup. The food was horrible. When I asked what the beef was I was told it was a ground mix. The ribs were dry and the brown sauce they sent home was like a really bad gravy. Can’t imagine how this place has stayed in business. I know the east bay is in need of good bbq but this place is not the answer

We came here for dinner, and ordered to go. I ordered ribs and my girlfriend had chicken. The meat was cooked wonderfully and the sides were just as tasty. I particularly enjoyed the spicier BBQ sauce they offered, which is better then most of the competitors. I have food left over and feel like I got a lot for my money. I am definitely coming back soon!

They were really good I ordered to go for pick up, my order was correct. I ordered just a regular rib plate with potato salad and red sauce. It was alot and worth the $ 15. 2 servings. Don’t get the Brown sauce. Surprised they didn’t have alot of pictures on Unilocal, but i agree with the reviews. I would definitely come back!

Why didn’t the Elite Unilocaler go to the Denim event? Because he went to Barney’s the day before. And he has no denim besides blue jeans. Oh, I so wanted to see Eugene flirting with the girls… So why Barney’s? My daughter’s school has an eat-out night once a month, part of your bill goes to the school, and this month the winner was Barney’s. So off we went, and let’s see how it compares to Back Forty and Everett & Jones. It’s a simple storefront on Clayton Road, not fancy at all(real BBQ places are not fancy). I dug the pictures; my grandfather was an Arkie, lived«The Grapes Of Wrath», and had old western paintings like this in his old house on the farm. The 80s music in the background didn’t quite fit, though, I expected country music. So not quite an authentic choke-and-puke from Texas. Me: half a chicken. Spicy skin, the bbq sauce added a good flavor to it. Fries were errrgh. Hunny: fish & chips, «they were real good.» Girl: chicken strips, normal sized for grown-ups but too big for elementary school children. There is no kids menu. Chicken strips and grilled cheese sandwich are both for sale, but you may need a doggie bag. Overall, it’s pretty good, but a definite step below Back Forty. It is convenient on the slow drive on Clayton Road if you want to stop and get some takeout food on the way home to east Concord or Clayton. So it is a choice, but the Cheese Steak Shop is a few steps away and has better food.

Nothing says home like Barney’s ribs! Ya know, I’ve been eating Barney’s ribs since I was first able to gnaw on the bones! But just a month or so ago, was the first time I have ever been in there to eat! My Uncle Jac took me on a «date» and we sat in «Papa’s booth»!(Papa = Ken Davey) Just last weekend, Uncle Jac brought me and my boys there for dinner!(Pretty sure I’m the only one in the family that hadn’t eaten in there till my 40’s!). Thank for years of ribs that makes those ucky days all better!!!
