My partner and I got a mattress from here in Dec 2012. Two years later and it’s just like new and it is seriously the most comfortable mattress I have ever touched. It’s latex with gel memory foam and it’s so comfy you wouldn’t believe it. I have chronic lower back pain that shows up when I’m laying down for more than 6 hours straight on a normal mattress. I need about 9 hours of sleep, so you see the problem. On this mattress I can lay down all night with no pain and it has improved my quality of life and sleep considerably. The only downside is this mattress really heats up throughout the night. That’s true for any latex/​foam mattress. But to have a mattress this comfortable is worth using a few less blankets. I need a new mattress for a different bed and you bet I won’t even look anywhere else!
When we were first shopping we went lots of places and did price/​quality comparisons. You get a higher quality mattress here for a cheaper price, no doubt about it. The trade off of course is the perceived risk of using a one-​person company. What if he passes away and our warranty is no good we wondered, or what if he just doesn’t fulfill? Well that’s the risk but you do get a better mattress and we have had no reason to call on the warranty so far. I found the owner/​maker straightforward and everything went as planned.
Price for a cal king latex mattress with gel memory foam was $ 1700 (two years ago).
Price for the same mattress in full size is $ 1400 (just got the quote today). He has cheaper mattresses, I think it depends on the material. He doesn’t tend to bargain down from what I’ve seen, and he doesn’t offer financing. But it is so worth it.

This company is pure thievery… don’t do business here. They absolutely take your money for inferior product. Stay away, go to a reliable merchant!

I can’t say enough about my mattress and box spring that we got for our antique bed that had an odd size and for our injured backs that needed good support. Community Mattress Co. came to our home in San Francisco to measure the bedframe, and then returned to install it all for a very reasonable price. This was 27 years ago and that mattress is still just a good as it was the first day we got it!!!

Spent too much time researching what mattress to buy and settled on latex foam. I spent time at several other foam stores but their prices were VERY high for just the foam, more or less with a quality cover.
Patrick at Community Mattress was EXCELLENT to work with — he’s friendly and came across as honest and straight forward. He let us try out different combinations of latex density and mattress materials after taking us into the factor (back of the store) which is a very craft oriented space.
The mattress is exactly what we ordered and he custom made for less than JUST the form core would have been at a place like foam order (where we were treated poorly at the Clayton store).
Patrick and a friend delivered the mattress immediately when it was finished being custom made — they were pleasant, clean, and on time.
If you’re looking for a custom memory or latex foam mattress I can honestly say you won’t find a better store in the Bay Area. The craftsmanship is great and the service was no pressure, clean and quick. For custom mattresses or latex foam generally, the price is on par with others, but the quality and experience were on a whole different (and better) level. Highly recommended.

The owner, Doug, is a real pill. He messed up making a custom mattress for me and the hubby and when we tried to get it fixed, he hung up on us! When we called back he told us he had our money and wasn’t talking to us anymore.
Once he has your money, forget about any customer service. If you like being ripped off, this is the place to go.
