Rachel is a great teacher! She teaches with such solid knowledge and confidence you feel like you can reupholster anything! That said, I’d start simple and work your way up! Rachel makes it look easy, supplies all the tools and some you can buy. Also has all the materials needed for sale as you go! Finished 2 salon chairs, which are now in better shape than when I got them. Now I’m ready to work on an ottoman that I thought I was going to trash!

Whether you are a designer, novice or hobbiest, you can tackle almost any project at the Home Décor Learning Center. My first projects were upholstery, then window treatments and on to gluing furniture. I moved on to what I perceived as an unbelievable challenge — a patio umbrella. Rachel assured me that it was «doable» and I spent time practicing new seams — then Voila — I had a beautiful patio umbrella for my outside table. I moved on to creating shaker doors for my really plain linen closet doors and most lately, i built an Aldo Leopold bench for my yard. Rachel helped me mitre the side pieces. She is an expert! I was able to create desired results in no time, thanks to the guidance and assurance of Rachel and her talented team. Every tool I needed was there at the Center, with good direction, for results that met or exceeded my expectations. I’m impressed by the concept and having a place I can go to fulfill my décor goals. Thanks to a great staff!

If you are looking for a place to learn upholstery, work in a collaborative environment with like-​minded people and get great instruction — then look no further. HDLC is all that and more. Rachel knows volumes about upholstery and sewing and loves to teach. But be warned … it’s addictive.

This place is a real treasure. The staff are very knowledgeable and great at teaching. The equipment is excellent and the environment is both fun and inspiring. This is a great place to either work solo or with other creatives. I love it!
