I met with Rick Bringel (contractor) from SPS and my real estate agent for a pre-​inspection of a home I was interested in purchasing in the Oakland area. Rick was a very honest and straightforward guy with his assessment of the work that needed to be done (foundation, fungal rot, grading) of the home — consistent with the previous inspection. He also gave me different solutions to fixing the same problem. Ultimately he told me the best solution would the solution I’m more comfortable with. Although I did not decide to purchase the home, his honesty helped me determine it was not the right home for me. In terms of cost, he was able to give me rough ballpark figure that was less than the previous inspection.
He may not appear the nicest in person according to some reviews but if you want someone to do quality work then this is the right guy. I’ll be sure to give him a call in the near future.
I am only giving 4 out 5 because I did not use him for work but from what I’ve seen of his work (at other homes that are on the market he’s worked on) and what my agent has said, he does quality work.

I hired Rick Bringle /​Structural Protection Services Construction (SPS) in 2013 to perform some foundation work on my house. Much of the stucco work he did started sagging and developed pockets where it wasn’t properly adhered to the house. I had several stucco experts examine his work, and each said that it was sub-​standard. Despite repeated requests over the last year, he has refused to fix the problem unless we paid more. We must now hire another contractor to repair his work for a few thousand dollars.
Rick Bringle does not stand behind his work, and I’ve found him to be disagreeable, condescending, and very hard to reach. I would never recommend Rick /​Structural Protection Services to anyone.
