I love Dr. Towery and his office staff. I’m comfortable here. They never treat me like I’m mentally ill. Dr. Towery is always kind and never makes me feel rushed. I see him for medication only so my visits are appropriately short. I don’t like being on medications and he works with me on this to keep my meds low but keep me functional. I love his receptionist! She’s always got a smile and is just fun to deal with. I have insurance but have never had a bit of trouble here. Sometimes I think people forget that the main difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is that psychiatrist are MD’s and therefore can write drug prescriptions and often do medication maintenance like for me. It doesn’t take more than 10 or 15 minute appointments for me to tell him how I’m doing. If I need time to talk I have the option of booking a longer appointment. With a psychologist all they do is counsel. They can’t write drug prescriptions. There are times I need both and for those times I gladly pay more to see a psychiatrist. His expertise in psychiatric medication is invaluable. I want to live a long and happy life with the best care I can find. I have found that with Dr. Towery.

Be very careful with this Doctor. When I was very, very ill and on permanent disabilty he told me to try harder to work! I was clearly too sick to work, he knew I could’nt dress or feed myself! When I was working I paid $ 50.00 for medicine review which was less than 10 minutes. When I was so sick, I missed appointments and he would still bill me, even though he was treating me for memory loss. Turns out when you are self pay patient, the doctor gets the full amount, versus insurance,(which makes them write off a contracted amount), with insurance the doctor gets a much reduced payment for his services. Me thinks, this is one doctor who loves his money, maybe a little too much! Shame on him for taking advantage of people who are ill, and with little funds!

$ 45 for a missed appointment? Do you think they told me this when I first started seeing Dr. Towery? No, they did not! Then they have been charging me $ 20 copay each visit. I found out that it was supposed to be $ 5 all along. When I called the office to inform this, the receptionist refused to call my insurance to get this straightened out. She also refused to go back and see what they owe me as far as my over payments to them. She basically yelled at me on the phone! They just want your money! I don’t know if Dr. Towery knows about his receptionists lack of office skills but I am pretty sure that he knows about his office protocols.

Dr. Towery works at Concord Pavillion. I am lucky when I get admitted to the Pavillion to have him as a doctor. You can tell the good ones from the bad nasty ones right from the start. This guy is kind, really wants to know what is going on, and talks to me in not a demeaning or arrogant voice like Dr. Neril, another psychiatrist at Concord Pavillion. I like Dr. Towery, he adjusts my Lithium once and it helped me a lot with my mania. Dr. Owen Towery practices Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychiatry in Concord, California. Dr. Towery graduated with an MD39 years ago.
