I came in with my family for my dad’s birthday on a Monday night 11/16/2015. There was one other table having their food prepared in front of them. We had a 11 people. The chairs were too tight for us all to sit at the table. I proceeded to sit at the end of the table. It was technically at the other table. The manger promptly came over and told me top move. Of course we never saw the manger again. I ended up having to eat my food hovering over the edge of the table. This was not pleasant. And nobody was seated at the joining table while we there. The food is always tasty and consistent. You always feel like a glutton and like you’ve take years off your life when you leave.

I’ve been to hibachi bars in other areas. This was pretty much the worst experience. After an hour and fifteen minutes, the sushi chef came out. I’m pretty sure we just got the left over food from all the other customers. Really, please don’t waste 3 hours of your life here.

My fiancé and I are new to the area and we ordered take out from here. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and a hibachi chicken plate. The hibachi was cold. The shrimp sauce has way too much mustard in it. Taste like I just squirt mustard all over my hibachi. The chicken was very dried out. The Boston roll is supposed to have smoked salmon in it. It’s just raw salmon. Heard good things about this place but it’s been proven to me that it’s no so great. Won’t be eating here for a long while.

I’ve yet to eat anything here at Tsunami that I’ve hated. I love both the hibachi entrees and the sushi. It’s a learning experience to find what you like and don’t like. It may appear that the food is pricey for dinner, but it does come with a HUGE portion and salad and soups! So it is a good price for the food you get. It’s hard to walk out of the restaurant with no leftovers. Also, I know the staff is fabulous! :)

Service is ok. Food is ok. None of the cooks have any personality or small. They are no fun

Overpriced. Standard«Japanese» faire, but so much sodium that we refer to it as a plate of salt. Standard show and presentation. Easy to get a seat even on prime time. Better than sogo… Other Japanese in concord.

This is the most AWFUL restaurant around. We waited over an hour and a half for the restaurant to get our ticket right

I ordered a shrimp and salmon combination meal. The shrimp and salmon were over cooked. The miso soup was an onion soup. Do yourself a favour and go down the street to Yama. Similar prices, much better quality.

It was ok. Nothing bad. Nothing outstanding. Service as good Food was above average. However being said there are far better Japanese steak houses in the area with far better experiences. For about the same price.

We go a few times a month and enjoy the hibachi grill. It is dinner and entertainment. Never been disappointed with the food or the service. It isn’t the best place I’ve ever been and far from the worst. The soup is more of a broth, but I do enjoy the flavor. The salad is ok, with iceberg lettuce and your choice of dressing. I prefer the ginger dressing and could do with a better lettuce choice. The amount of food is tremendous. We always do a dinner share and still take plenty for leftovers.

TERRIBLE. We should have known by the looks of the outside of the bldg that the food was probably going to be about the same. It’s located in an awkward facing strip mall with blacked out windows and looks like some kind of shady bar or something. The place was DEAD at almost 7pm but despite all of this we still chose to give it a try at the hibachi grill. The soup is horrible and nothing but pure broth-no scallions or anything. The salad was fine. The chicken, steak, and scallops were all TERRIBLE. NO flavor at all, no seasoning other than soy sauce, and the steak was super fatty and not trimmed. The fried rice was as bland as it gets and I really don’t care for corn in it so that was different than what we are used to. Overall, terrible food, location, ambiance, and the chef was bored out of his mind and completely impersonal.

Nothing to write home about. I’ve had better and fresher. Guess it could be worse. I do like the bagel roll a lot but that’s about all. Wish it was better.

I had a chance to stop by here a few days ago for the first time to celebrate my anniversary. We had made reservations 2 weeks prior to the date and when we arrived there they claimed that they didn’t have our reservations and that we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. I was so furious with their disorganized ways but we decided to wait. As we waited, I noticed that they kept erasing people from the list. If someone was even 3 minutes late they were erased. When they would show up, they had to wait 45 minutes to get seated. I think that the front desk overbooks the place and then just drops people. Not to mention that they give you a nasty attitude when you question them on their actions. On the other hand, the food was good and quickly made once the chefs arrived at the cooking station. Which was also a long wait. I personally wished the chefs were a little more social with us. The chef we had seemed really antisocial and didn’t seem to be enjoying his job. But regardless of that, the food was pretty good. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and avoid if possible. The food is overpriced for the amount that you get and you have to deal with rude employees or wait 45 minutes for a table. You literally get treated better at a buffet than this place.

Had a chance to go here to today with some family for lunch. We ordered a few different sushi rolls for lunch — the Spicy Tuna Roll and a California Roll being our rolls of choice. I thought the sushi was good, but not great by any means. There wasn’t anything in particular that separated it from other sushi I’ve had at other places in Charlotte like Soul and Pisces I thought the service was great — attentive, quick, no issues there. Prices are reasonable and are comparable with other sushi spots in and around the Charlotte area. I wish I could give Tsunami more than 3-stars, but I think this place deserves an average rating for average sushi.

How bout dust bunnies on the ceiling… Was just waiting for one to float off the fire sprinkler on to some of us eating! Food was plenty and good… onion soup was no different than home made Lipton variety.

I have to agree with others that it’s going downhill… The soup is now just plain chicken broth. No scallions or mushrooms… And it NEVER tastes the same as the last time. Last night I was going to get double salad and I should’ve. I know it may sound minor but it’s the start to your meal. Last month we ordered take out hibachi chicken(first time for take out there) and they forgot the sauce. The food was almost inedible without the sauce… we did not each much. Quality is getting bad. :(

As much as I hate to review Tsunami negatively, I must to be fair. This was once a favorite of mine. In recent visits to this establishment, it has become more and more obvious that things have gone downhill in several areas here. The food quality is not what it once was(sushi is horrible), the service is sub-par(hit and miss) and the management staff is not helpful. With my last visit I sent a message via the email listed to complain about my experience. To date, no response. Unacceptable! What a shame and a disappointment to see a once awesome establishment fall into such a state of disfunction. Hopefully the management team/owner will recognize the issues and correct before their reputation is destroyed. Good luck to them. I hope they take customer feedback seriously and make the necessary corrections.

Kind of pricey for the portion sizes of the entrees and lunchroom layout, but decent food. I usually get a teriyaki chicken w/vegetables. The restroom area is grungy so avoid going in there. I have never dined in, but on the occasions that I have gone, it is usually practically empty. Also if doing take-out, there is not a good waiting area so be prepared to stand awkwardly at the door if you haven’t called ahead… Staff is accordingly cordial. They have an outdoor seating area and a sushi bar + regular bar. There is really nothing overly special about this place. Good place for a quick carry-out…

1 Star is actually to much. Unilocal — Can I get a negative Star system? Okay people, I have been their twice in the past month for their all you can eat lunch buffet. All you can eat is that — ALLYOUCANEAT! Both times, they the buffet has been empty. They are slow to bring the sushi out, and when they do, there is people waiting to pounce on it, thus it is GONE, unless you are planning on camping on the buffet table. 1 sushi chef and 1 server??? The second time, my wife and I waited 20 minutes. There was exactly three other tables of people waiting, about 10 people. When the sushi came out, it was some shrimp nigiri and California rolls. Like 5 piece of nigiri and maybe two Cali rolls. WTF? I got the manager and expressed my dissatisfaction, and you know what, he walked away. We just got up and left. With all the choices, this establishment just does not get it. If this place insists on charging a premium for sushi, you are better off getting sushi at Harris Teeter(which is actually better)… I will be expressing my total distaste on FB and to every single person I meet until this place shuts down… My new mission in life…

Definitely not what you would expect, or where you would expect it. Your typical Japanese steak house is a bit more adorned(at least on the outside) in something of a pagoda-like fashion, which appeases all us American-types so that we think we are getting something authentic. Doesn’t mean we are, of course, just that we might. Not here(on either count, really). The outside is just a plain restaurant in a strip mall, down from the Harley place. On the inside it’s a bit better, and you get a few table-top grills, which is always entertaining unless you are rushed by the chef, and here you are to some degree. The problem is that the star of this place is the show, since the table itself does not really lend itself to talking with your fellow diners. When the show suffers, so does the meal. While the food isn’t bad, the show isn’t great, and since you cannot really talk to anyone all that well without shouting across the grill, it just isn’t that great. There are better places to go.
