We visited here for the first time on a very very busy Saturday night. We had 4 in our party and got sat with in 15 mins. We were sat near a window, and I asked if we could crack it. It was a little warm in there. Our waiter was happy to do that for us. We loved the read they brought to the table. Mm bread! Our food came quick and they were good size servings and everything tastes grate! No complaints!!! We will be back for sure!!!

Good food, but a bit noisy and crowded, staff is very friendly! Would recommend to a friend.

I went to Madwells tonight after a friend recommended it and i wasnt dosapointed. The hostess found us a table right away and in no time our server was there. JP did a great job. He told us about the beer selection that was great. We had the calamari appetizer and it was very good. I also had the linguini with clams and a white wine sauce, very tasty. It was a very friendly, family type of place. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great ding experience.

We tried this place on a whim-we just moved to the conifer area, so we were surprised when we saw an Italian restaurant-one of my favs! We pull up, and it really looks like a sports bar where greasy(not knockin’ it) burgers are sold. It smelled like sewage outside too… our waitress was really nice, and it had a good crowd in there(little loud in the front tho). I ordered some chicken with a hazelnut sauce with nuts and capers. It was actually pretty good, but it would’ve been SO much better if the sauce wasn’t as sweet-it needed some salt to balance it out. My husband had the chicken Alfredo, and neither of us really liked it. It had this weird aftertaste, and not much flavor. We may try the pizza/calzone next time.

Service at Madwell’s is definitely going south. I was at a neighborhood BBQ in King’s Valley on Labor Day and Madwell’s came up. The consensus was that portions are getting smaller and the waitresses are getting less friendly each time we eat there. No one could recall the last time Tony greeted them. One retired Chili’s manager told us all that’s a definite sign of a restaurant in trouble. Another person said that the last time they went in all the waitresses seemed depressed and the one tending bar snapped at his wife for calling her Katie instead of Kate. Um, sweetie, you should feel flattered that a customer remembered you and bothered to say hello. Good grief. Tony can probably stay in business with the weekend Denver yuppies driving home on Sundays but it’s a shame one of our neighborhood places is going to shit.

We usually stop by JJ Madwell’s on our way back home from a weekend in the mountains. It sort of has a run down feel to the place but they have a great patio area outside. The food is good but I give it three stars because both times we’ve been here, service has been extremely slow. This last weekend we were seated outside and after waiting 15 minutes, our waitress came out and said no one saw us come in. Um what? We were seated by the hostess! We had our toddler and doggy with us, we’re sorta hard to miss.

Maybe a bad night but very slow to get drinks(15 – 20 min) food order 11min after that; an hour and 15 later we get food that may or may not have been cooked in a microwave. Like I said may be a bad night for the kitchen staff but it was not very busy at all.

We got here at 6:09pm for a Father’s Day dinner.(I looked at the clock to see if we made happy hour.) We were seated on the patio and given a few cold, crunchy garlic knots. After 20 minutes with no service, my wife went to the bar and ordered drinks, walking past two servers who weren’t doing anything. She informed the bartender we hadn’t seen a server yet, to which the bartender did not apologize, but rather replied, «Did someone seat you, or did you seat yourself?» My wife and the bartender came back with drinks. We finished them. At 6:50, a busboy came by the table and asked if we needed anything. Keep in mind, we now have a table with menus, empty drinks, and an empty basket in front of us. We asked for a server or a manager. He left and came back to inform us someone would be with us in a few minutes. We left $ 5 on the table, having never seen a manager or waitstaff. I understand that tables get dropped and stuff happens. Good restaurants do what they can to make it right. Bad ones let you walk out the door without so much as an apology. After an experience like tonight’s, I can’t imagine why JJ’s is still in business.

I’ve had their eggplant parmesan sandwich and pizza both really good coming from a Jersey girl I approve! 4 stars only because one time I ordered a medium pizza and they only had large dough made so they charged me for the large when I got there. Would have been nice if they charge me for the medium since thats what I ordered.

Just went in for lunch, sat at the bar. Not busy. The server took forever to get us menus as she was on the phone. Right in front of us. Once we had the menus, it again took her a long time for her to come back to us to take our order… on the phone again. Left the restaurant, just not ok… bummer because I really wanted to like this place…

This place had some decent pie. Good salad and they have some gluten free stuff. Nice place to find in Conifer. A little bit pricey. But, good food in the mountains is normally a bit more.

I have been visiting JJ Madwell’s since I moved to Conifer about 7 years ago and it’s been my favorite restaurant ever since. I am a celiac, so having a local restaurant that serves a wide variety of gluten-free options(ranging from pasta to pizza to bread) is quite a luxury. I have been gluten-free for over 4 years and I have never had an allergic reaction while eating here. I enjoy their rigatoni pasta, sun chicken, pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. They get their bread from Sweet Escape Pastries out of Longmont CO. and it is absolutely divine — some of the best gluten-free bread I’ve ever had. They also have a nice variety of wines that always satisfy our pallets. The bar can be a lot of fun during sporting events and we also enjoy visiting their patio during the summer time. This is the most popular restaurant in town — there have been a lot of different Italian restaurants that have come and gone over the years and JJ Madwell’s still remains — and for good reason. The parking lot is always packed with cars and the bar is usually hopping every time I’m there. One of the drawbacks is the dining room just isn’t big enough to accommodate all of their customers — during rush-time, it can get pretty crowded and noisy. Although this is the best restaurant in the area, I can only give it 4 stars because the other reviewers are right; the service is bad. I usually order take-out and they get my order wrong probably every third time I visit. However, to be fair, it is impossible to find good service workers in the area and it’s a challenge that all business owners have to deal with here. The inaccurate orders cannot be 100% attributed to the staff — I have noted that several of my wrong orders were a result of an inadequate computer system that doesn’t enable staff to properly customize orders. With that said, the Manager has always been attentive to my issues; immediately stepping in to correct the problem. I highly recommend JJ Madwell’s. It’s one of the many great places to visit in Conifer. Enjoy!

Not at all what I expected. We were in the middle of unpacking boxes from our recent move and realized we had no food or even cookware unpacked AND it had been 8 hours since our last meal… so we called and asked if they could still seat us, though it was 10 minutes to closing time. Not only did they seat us, but they gave us extra large portions and kept our drinks topped off so fast, I never got below midline. The food is really, really good. HUGE portions. The rolls are delicious, I would almost eat just those and be completely satisfied.

Pleasantly surprised to find tasty Italian food in Conifer! Our server was pleasant, service was speedy, the manicotti and sunset chicken were both richly flavored, and there wasn’t an empty seat in the house. They do good local business and deservedly so! I’ve heard from locals that their food can be inconsistent, but the night we were there the food and service were on point.

Our waitress was AWFUL. We sat down, got water, menus, and bread and waited. We watched her get other people food, talk, etc. After 15 minutes she told us she would be with us. After 25 we got up to leave. Suddenly she was in my face saying she was ready. Seriously? I told her we were leaving and she said her computers were down and she was waiting for them to come back up. Ok genius– so help me understand why everyone else was swiping cards and taking orders with them? Thanks but no– we went to Golden Stix instead and had a GREAT dinner.

Great lunch spot. Outdoor patio and sports bar vibe. Bread was phenomenal between the bread knots, pizza crust, and housemade sandwiches. Yummy. Will return. I ate jj’s favorite sandwich. Essentially a caprese salad on a bun with prosciutto. Delish!

We happened to be up in Conifer last night and went into JJ’s for a late dinner. The place seemed awfully busy for a Tuesday night, but we were seated immediately and the garlic rolls and marinara were there in a flash. I had the Chicken Parmigianino with a side salad and my partner had the Artichoke Pasta with Chicken and the soup. Everything was fresh and well prepared and presented well. The staff was friendly and prompt. We went here because of the reviews, it was dark when we arrived, and raining, so the patio was empty. Looks like it would have a great mountain view and a fun place to sit out. We’ll try it again for sure.

A-OK about sums it up. I’ve had better Italian food and definitely has worse. Factoring in the random location, the great smell of the food and the good service, this place is worth checking out. They start you out with garlic bread that’s more garlic knots than bread. I’m a fan of the garlic knots as they were not overpowering but you knew there was some garlic present in the knots. I tasted the ravioli, lasagna, meat balls and sausage. All were in the range of good/average, no complaints from me there. A good spot to check out if you’re in the area and looking for Italian food and good service.
