Bob Wilson’s Gulf

I have taken my car here twice, once for an oil change and the second time for inspection. Both times I was treated with respect, the quoted price is the price I paid! There are no surprises here. The staff is friendly and professional. The dealership was always trying to add things that I didn’t need. At Bob Wilson’s Gulf, they don’t push unnecessary work on you. I am definitely bringing my car back here whenever I need service.

I have been a customer of Bob Wilson’s Gulf since I moved to the area in Jan 2010. I have had every state inspection handled there for my car as well as my husband’s car. They are reliable, honest and trustworthy. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.

Recently moved into the area and came here recently for a state inspection, fluid changes, and tire rotation. Pretty quick service and fair pricing. A mechanic you can trust and rely upon is invaluable and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back for regular maintenance needs.

Great place! Honest and friendly professional staff. I will be returning. They go above and beyond in my opinion. They take the time to explain what is needed to resolve the issue in laymen a terms so it’s tangible to the everyday person. Thanks for that!

This review is solely based off of one experience. Because why wouldn’t I get a flat tire shortly before a blizzard was due to come into town?
I had convinced myself that I would be fine using my donut instead of a tire for a few days, since I live within spitting distance of my job. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) my boss found out that this was my plan, and threatened my job (probably not really) if I did not get a new tire before work the next day since there was a massive blizzard coming in that night. This meant I had to find a new tire the next morning and I had to give a place about a two hour window to get me a tire and put it on.
The first place I called was Bob Wilson’s Gulf. I told them my tire size, and they said they had them in stock. When I asked if it would be possible for me to come down right away to get it changed. they said no problem! I literally had a new tire on my car within 30 minutes of making my phone call. Such a lifesaver.
I did find it a little strange that the guy began working on changing my tire while I was still in the vehicle! Instead of giving me a verbal warning, he just started jacking up my car. But still, a lifesaver. I was done 15 minutes after I pulled into the parking lot, and the price was reasonable. Thank you so much!

Be cautious when entering into business with Bob Wilson’s. I am a Conshy local, living and working in Conshy, and took my car to Gulf for a state inspection, emissions inspection, and an oil change to satisfy state transfer requirements. This first interaction was fine, I picked up my car on a Thursday afternoon and thought I was done.
Friday, not even 24 hours later, my car was stuttering and lerching when accelerating. I’ve owned my car for 6 years and have NEVER had this issue. The next day, my emissions light came on and I took my car back to Bob Wilson’s because I felt like the emissions issue was directly related to the work they did during the state & emissions inspection. Make sense, right? I received a call a few hours after dropping my car off, saying there was a problem with the spark plugs and they needed to be replaced. The total would be somewhere around $ 220 — $ 95 for the diagnosis/​labor, $ 98 for the parts plus tax. (Keep in mind that I wouldn’t have even gone back a second time if I knew they were going to charge me for what I felt was a problem caused by them.) Apparently the spark plug damage was so bad my car couldn’t be driven off their property.
At this point, I was dissatisfied and left like it was too much of a coincidence for a service light to come on 24 hours after their work, AND that they were not willing to acknowledge the coincidence and waive the diagnosis charge… I knew there was an issue, that’s why the light was on, I argued that I didn’t need to pay $ 95 for them to tell me that when the dealer agreed to do that at no cost (which I confirmed with the dealer.) Again, the only reason I took my car back here was because I believed they were going to fix what they missed/​caused during the inspection. I tell Bob over the phone I am coming to get my car to take it to the Mini dealer, where I trust the work. He says he has to «put the car back together» so I can take it somewhere else, but it will be $ 95. I never agreed to have them start work, and no one ever called to receive permission from me on the charges and to start the work. I only wanted them to fix the damage I believed they caused, and if they wouldn’t do that at no charge, I would take it to a trusted dealer for the work instead.
I went to the gas station in person to make it an easier conversation to have, took a witness with me, and after some discussion, Bob agreed to not charge me the $ 95 diagnosis fee, but only for the parts — around $ 120 or so when tax was done. I agreed to leave the car, which was my only choice I was told, because they «took it apart» and needed to charge me to put it back together. (My car has a smart key that runs the diagnosis by plugging in the key to a scanner… they didn’t need to take my car apart.)
At a few points during this in-​person conversation, Bob couldn’t keep his story straight: they had to take my car apart and it wasn’t drive-​able so I had to leave it there to get the work done; they plugged my key into a scanner and really didn’t take it apart; the labor cost was for taking my car apart (but was it taken apart?!)…the initial quote of $ 220 didn’t include labor, it did include labor; the labor & plugging my key into a scanner were the same thing, they weren’t the same thing; Mini gave me wrong information… you get the point.)
The next day, I went to pick up my car after work, Bob wasn’t there, and I am shocked to find a bill waiting for me for $ 212, after we had a conversation and agreed the labor/​diagnosis fee would be waived. I have the worker call Bob, who relays to me there’s nothing to be done. I pay, because I don’t want to leave my car there any longer than necessary with an unreliable and shady business, and plan to call Bob the next day.
I just got off the phone with Bob, who tells me that both me and my witness misunderstood, he never agreed to waive the labor/​diagnosis fee, and the total is what we agreed to. He «can’t do anything,» the light coming on the day after their work was all a coincidence, what I paid is the price we agreed to (not true, because they would have to ask me to start work and never did), and now the diagnosis and labor are two separate things. Basically, he quoted me $ 220 and that didn’t include the labor, but when I questioned the charge he said he took the labor cost off and the $ 220 was the rate we agreed to.
Needless to say, I will NEVER be going back here. They do shady business, they took advantage of a mid-20’s female, and at this point, I thoroughly believe there was an existing issue with the spark plugs they failed to fix during the inspection, only to have it act up the VERY NEXT DAY. Too much of a coincidence and they can’t be trusted.
I want to support small, local businesses but not at this cost. Trust the other negative reviews. They may do good work for some, but not when it too tempting to make an extra buck off people they think don’t know better.

Great place. Wanted them to check a used car I bought. Told them I wasn’t doing the work with them. Didn’t charge me much to put it up on the loft and give me the full run down. Didn’t make me wait or come back. Great place and if I wasn’t gonna do the work myself, I’d totally trust them.

Our family really appreciated Bob sticking around after hours to help us assess a possible used car that my daughter wants to buy. His expertise helped us identify possible repairs needed which helped us negotiate a fair price! Looking forward to our «new» Jeep and having years of Bob’s mechanical service!

I’ve taken my car here numerous times, for oil changes and state inspections, and have been very satisfied with the service each time. They are quick, generally taking half a day to complete the job. They are also fair and honest.

I had difficulty setting up a safety inspection at two other inspection stations that were located closer to where I live. Fortunately, I saw Bob Wilson’s Gulf on Unilocal.After a quick phone call and a short drive to this station, I was able to have a friendly, efficient safety inspection of my new car at a fair price. People are so kind and honest

Bob Wilson’s Gulf is more than a gas station — it’s your own personal car inspection/​filling station where the staff knows you by name (of course… because they smile as if they were at your birth) and pumps your gas without hesitation.
Want to leave your car overnight for a little bit of handy work like that pesky state emissions test? No problem. The folks at Bob Wilson will gladly take your keys and call you promptly when your vehicle is Pennsylvania state-​road ready.
Speedy, smiley and sweet… anything less is unacceptable.

Went here on a whim last year to get my oil changed and they were so nice and efficient that I took my car back for inspection. Since then, they’ve become my go to guys. They tell it to you straight and provide quality service.

went in for an oil change and a checkup on my car before i make a cross country drive. i have 100,000 miles on my car and wanted to make sure it would be okay for the drive. they told me i should be fine to make the drive but suggested that i get the air filter and battery replaced. they were very straight forward and got the job done quickly

Went here to get my 1996 Chevy inspected (a POS). After I dropped it off, he called me about 3 hours later to say that nothing was wrong and I could pick it up. He gave me a summary of stuff that I might want to have looked at, but no pressure on actually fixing it. Highly recommended. It’s a good, no BS auto shop.
