Very peaceful place. I love their homemade chocolate fudge! I usually come here to walk the nature trails or go feed the geese at the lake. If you need a good cheap date come out here. Also good place to sit in peace and pray or meditate.

Only open during the week, but SO worth a drive on a day off. The monks of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit earn their living by making preserves and fudge, and by selling a dazzling array of religious objects. The bookstore end of the store has an excellent selection, particularly rich in works on Christian mysticism(one employee, Carl, is an author and blogger on the topic). I’m not an expert on the other end of the store, but if there’s an object related to Christianity that you’d like to have in your life, and it doesn’t involve fragments of the True Cross, I’ll bet it’s there. When I visit the Abbey Store, I always buy the preserves which are made on the premises. I’m particularly a fan of the wild blueberry preserves, made without added sugar. And when I come, I always save half an hour or so for wandering around the premises. It’s so peaceful and beautiful — and I speak as someone who isn’t a member of any church.
