Since I have had firsthand experience with this company, I figure I should write my own review. I was looking for a storage unit for my mother who was coming into town from Knoxville TN. I couldn’t find any reviews on any facilities in Cookeville so I based my decision on the best price. I called a few places but decided I would go check out KP Storage after talking with the manager. The manager was very nice and they offered the best prices for the size we needed and they have 24-hour access to the units. I went to check out the unit and pick up a lease agreement. After talking everything over with my mother over the phone(she was still in Knoxville, TN) we decided to go ahead and rent the unit. I signed all the paperwork in the office and paid all fees. A few weeks later I moved my mother’s belongings in the unit during the Summer of 2012 and she went to stay in New Orleans for a year. About 3 months or so later, I got a call from the office manager saying that all of the billing statements they sent to my address were returned. We corrected the problem and I thanked her for taking the time to call me. Sometime in January of 2013, my mother and I went to check on her unit. It was filled with mouse dropping, a few cockroaches and other freaky critter dropping and I know she didn’t bring those critter’s with her. I went to buy some rodent bait pellets at the nearby Walmart to put in the unit and hoped for the best. In June of 2013 we went to the unit to move her things out. However we couldn’t access her unit as there was an additional red lock placed upon it. We went to the office and discovered there were late fees placed on the account unbeknownst to us. The office person told us that for the months of Dec. Jan. and Feb the payments were received a day or two late. My mother had all of her money order receipts to prove that payment was made in a timely manner, but we were told it didn’t matter. All that matter was when they«had it in their hands.» Personally, I feel if they could have called me months before about the returned statements they could have called about this. On top of that, with the holidays plus that year New Orleans had SuperBowl and Mardi Gras, it’s not inconceivable that the mail might be a bit delayed which is of no fault to us. I was actually renting a unit myself at AAA Pioneer in Cookeville, TN and I mailed my first payment about a week before Easter(the month of March) for my April rent, yet they didn’t get it until April 12. WTH! But I wasn’t charged a late fee because it was postmarked well before the due date. To someone who is thinking about renting from KP Storage just be aware. I think there are far better places in town.
