I’ve been wanting to visit Hyde Hall for about a year now and I finally found time to spend a few hours here before I move out of the area. The area surrounding the home is very scenic and it’s quite easy to find the building(near Glimmerglass State Park, at the north end of Lake Otsego). The admission fee is only $ 10 and it’s definitely worth it. The building is quite beautiful and has an amazing view of the lake from its grounds(it’s quite easy to see why it was built in that location). The staff were also all very kind and I thoroughly enjoyed my tour(which lasts an hour and is done every hour on the hour). The home is in various stages of restoration and you’re able to see fully restored rooms as well as several rooms that are partially restored or not restored in any way. The building was finished in 1834, but had been lived in for several generations and various rooms were used in different ways. This makes for a interesting tour and there is quite a bit of history in this building. If you’re a fan of old mansion homes and history, I would definitely suggest stopping by while you’re in the area(and bring your camera!). Anticipate spending 1 – 2 hours here.
