I’ve been leasing an apartment for 7 months now and since I first moved in there’s been a pigeon infestation. You might wonder why I moved in if I knew that the problem pre-existed, but in all honesty, I needed to move into an apartment ASAP and when the leasor showed it to me, it seemed perfectly fine(especially compared to the other apartments). The problem with the infestation was a little more than just noise. The roof access is in my bathroom, and because of this, I’ve had to constantly clean bird feces from my sink, tub and floor. My apartment smells awkward, and I have to walk through feces when I’m leaving and returning to my apartment. The maintenance men have been coming to my apartment at least twice, if not three times each month to remove the birds from the attic space. I’ve tried to call my landlord because I know that this problem is extremely detrimental to my health, but she or her assistants NEVER return my calls. I thought that there was maybe an organization I could complain and contact but I haven’t had an luck finding it online. Please help, I want to break my lease and move to a better place as well as get some of my rent back because living there was in no way worth it

After being shown the sample apartment, my roomie and I were so happy to find a nice place close to the fairlawn area that was reasonably priced. The friendly staff ensured us that the walls would be painted, carpets would be either new or freshly cleaned and«like new», and that the place would be cleaned from floor to ceiling and the place would be very clean. Although the staff did mention the model apt was renovated and our apt wouldn’t be, we were ensured the only differences were the hardwood floors and the countertops. None of that was true. The downstairs wreaked of cat urine, and I mean BAD — it was nauseating. Stains on the carpet, marks on the walls, filth and spider webs around the floor boards… The appliances looked like they were from the 1970s; they were ugly, stained, and dented, not anywhere near the nice appliances that were in the model home they showed us. It was so bad, we contacted our attorney that evening to make sure we would get out of the lease. The only good thing I can say about this place is that they let us out of our lease without a major hassle. Our attorney didn’t have to get involved, but we did lose out a $ 100 deposits we had provided to them to hold our apartment. Honestly, I think the staff knew very well that they had given us a crappy apartment… I’m just so glad I don’t live here! Sucks we lost our $ 100 but it will be worth it in the long run.
