I’ve been eating here since they were down the road in their little spot. Recently I’ve noticed the service is a little bit slower than it used to be, but the waiter/waitresses I’ve gotten any of the times I go are always very helpful and check up on me a lot. I always get the Jaegerschnitzel and it’s consistently delicious.

I have had many schnitzels in my life but their rahm schnitzel is hands down my favorite. Paired with Cucumber salad and Spaetzle. The food is good for copperas cove. Their baked good? Meh. They arent bad but they arent good. Heidi’s german bakery in town has better sweets in my opinion. The service you ask? Depends on the server. I got good servers 1⁄10 times i visit. The only one that was horrible was a female. Drink/food and never came back. I had to ask for the check myself.

Lived in Germany for 3 years. Got excited when I found this German restaurant here in Cove! I’ve been craving some currywurst and was excited to find it on the menu here! We got it for take out and wow was it good! It tasted exactly like the currywurst back in Germany! The fries had the perfect seasoning and tasted delicious! The service was amazing as well. Everyone that worked there are so friendly! I miss the German culture and food. I’m so happy I get a little taste of it here at this restaurant!

The place was very slow when I went in on a Saturday around 5 pm. I ordered the Zigeuner schnitzel with sides of red cabbage and beet salad. Zigeuner schnitzel is one of my favorite german dishes, and I was very disappointed with this meal. The wait person brought my bread and beet salad immediately after I placed my order. About 5 minutes later, the schnitzel and red cabbage was brought to the table. The schnitzel was obviously heated – it was not freshly made. The Zigeuner sauce was not very good — the hot peppers and tomatoes overpowered the sauce, and there was not enough hot paprika, onions, and bell peppers. I prefer hot paprika, not hot peppers, because it flavors the sauce differently. The red cabbage was soggy. It was not fresh. The saving grace of this meal was the dessert. The black forest cake was light, moist, and flavorful. It is worth coming to the restaurant just for the cake.

The actual building is pretty large enough to accommodate a large crowd easily. I ordered the jaeger schnitzel. Loved the breading and the mushroom brown gravy was delicious, and I don’t like mushrooms. Good lunch like portions and authentic selections of desserts as well. Before leaving our friend asked about a specific dish he enjoyed while living in Germany an employee stated at any time if they have notice they can make whatever. They also make batches of specialty dishes throughout the month that aren’t on the menu!

This restaurant is primarily the only reason I’ll still visit Copperas Cove whenever I’m craving German food. I can’t attest to the authenticity — I’ll leave that up to the pro’s, but not one morsel is ever left behind on our plates. Basically, I am not hard to please. Meat + potatoes = one happy girl. FOOD + Jagerschnitzel: Thinly breaded pork loin that’s tender, topped with sliced mushrooms and a delicious, creamy dark brown gravy. + Rahmschnitzel: Same as above, but the cream sauce is lighter in color and sans mushrooms. Still just as delicious. You can ask for mushrooms to be added. + Gurkensalad(cucumber salad): Nice contrast of sweet and sour. + Sauerkraut: Shredded pickled cabbage side dish that is served warm. + Potato Ball: German-style potato dumplings. There is a 20-min minimum cook time on these, so be prepared to wait. Might be a good idea to call ahead an order this before you arrive.(Just make sure to speak to a manager that’s a family member /sarcasm. Refer to my fiasco below.) REMARKS Only issue that I’ve had so far was when I requested a strawberry cheesecake to go. I used to live in Temple(which is a 40-min drive away) and found that it was not included in my takeout bag. I immediately called and spoke to whoever answered the phone. I told him that we wouldn’t be back for awhile and he assured it wasn’t a problem. He said to just bring back the receipt with his name on it and they’ll remember what happened since he made others aware. Well, several months had passed since we came back to German Imbiss. As instructed, I presented the receipt to the waitress informing her of what happened and an awkward silence immediately ensued while giving me a bewildered look. She eventually had to talk to someone for approval. When the waitress returned, she advised that I should’ve asked to speak to a manager because this guy wasn’t part of their family and he doesn’t have the authority to make those type of decisions. How the hell am I supposed to know that? I shouldn’t have to ask. All this scheisse just for a cheesecake. TIP Double check your takeout order before leaving. 9⁄100

Since the move to the new location, I’ve had nothing but good service from this establishment! The food here is very good and always reminds me of when I used to live in Germany. Everyone is always friendly when I dine here so I would recommend it to anyone trying to get some good Germany cuisine!

Visiting the area, we wanted something different than what the chain restaurants have to offer. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is welcoming, our waiter was so friendly, and the food was delicious! The black forest cake is a must have to end your meal. The dampfnudel is huge, and well worth the time it takes to be prepared. Highly recommend when you’re in the area.

Dessert here was really good! We all enjoyed our meals but have had better German food before so I couldn’t give it 5 stars.

Delish! My favorite is the Jäger Schnitzel. I haven’t been in a while but they had a really good dessert, some kind of cake. I need to go back soon :)

We drove through town and stopped here on a whim when we saw their sign for rouladen. My dad got the gulasch with spatzel and I got the rouladen. Both dishes were quite good. The star of the meal, by far, was the cucumber salad. I expected diced cucumbers with olive oil and vinegar, but these had some sort of dill, cream, vinegar sauce. They were so good I covered my rouladen with them.

Off the chain! Great German food particularly the Jagr schnitzel, spaetzle with the brown mushroom gravy. Decent portions, fast service, Had cheese cake for dessert was a huge piece and delicious.

Delicious German chocolate cake — presented with a new twist — layered with coconut butter cream frosting. The jaeger schnitzel with spaetzle was hearty and flavorful. Glad I only ordered the 4 oz as the large 7 oz would have been way too much! Will return to this little restaurant again!

My review has to be two reviews 1st the food. The food was good not great but good, I was happy with it we had a party of 6 and all the food was good. It did not come out all together we had a few come out and it was slow to get the other orders. The service was not even good. I had to wait for a water refile(for a long time). Let’s say after being at the rabbit fest I was thirsty drank my 1st cup of water and almost ate all my dinner before I was able to get a refile. The owner was very nice. Let’s say he might be the only reason I gave them 3 stars! Not sure I’ll go back!

Good schnitzel, goulash was different than what I’m used to but it was tasty. Service is what kills this place. They need more employees to handle the huge crowds this place gets. Customers keep pouring in, so you know the food is good.

My husband and I ate here a couple years ago before the moved into the old Mel’s Burger joint bulding. We like the idea of «mom and pop» restaurants, and figured we’d give it a shot on my birthday. We were excited to see a German restaurant in Cove as we had just PCS’d here from Germany. We definitely didn’t think it was anything special. Brotchen tasted freezer burned. Schnitzel just seemed very plain, even with gravy. Cucumber salad was more like a soup. We pretty much only ate because we were so hungry, but definitely not worth it. We went back a few days ago with our almost 3 year old daughter. We thought maybe the last time we went, they were having a bad day, and decided to give it another try. The staff seemed friendlier this time, and definitely a lot more spacious in the new building. It was very quaint. Pleasant. Until we got our food. Didn’t notice any difference from the first time we went. Everything just seemed bland and blah. We shared a bowl of goulash, which tasted like it was canned. The only things that seemed to have flavor were my daughters french fries(which were SUPER salty). She absolutely loves french fries, but she only ate two because they were so salty. I ordered the red cabbage to go along with my bland schnitzel. It had a very overpowering pickled, vinegar taste. It was very weird. I didn’t go back for a second bite. My husband and I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant. We love German food, but don’t let the awards they have hanging up fool you. Ok so they’ve been voted the best German restaurant in Cove for years, because they’re the ONLY German restaurant in Cove. Very disappointing…

I surrender to the Oma in the kitchen because she does make a great Schnitzel! The homemade desserts are also outstanding. My boyfriend is German so always wants to come here, we have eaten here about 10 times and have always had great meals. The last few times were at their new location. Much more room and the restaurant has become very homey and all the staff is very friendly. Be prepared to wait, Oma makes everything to order and it’s worth it! This is a good solid German place for gooooood homecooking! Understand they may be getting a beer and wine license, but until then just BYOB! Enjoy!

Little hole in the wall that packs a lot of punch! Middle of America sure has a lot of great places to eat. I had the Knackwurst sandwich which is an all beef wurst in a bun. Putting German mustard only adds on to all the flavor. Sides include fries, cucumber salad, potatoes, etc. I’ll be having the Schnitzel later on this week before we leave!
