45 minutes waiting for my food while watching the waitresses fulfilled orders of the people who came in way after me.

Simply put: We had to ask our waitress to wait on us after sitting for 10 minutes unacknowledged; and to top that, the table that came in after us, who was waited on by the same lady, put in the same order as us and got their food first. This is the worst service i have ever received. At this point, I’m writing this and still haven’t gotten my order. I’m never coming back here again. In fact… We now have waited an extra ten minutes and finally decided to get up and leave; our shakes were halfway so we did not pay for them either. Their service didn’t even deserve that courtesy.

I’ve driven by this place all my life and had not stopped to give it a try. I know people come here for the pizza ‘empanadas,’ which are essentially mini calzones. My sister comes here for the ‘crema de queso,’ and that’s basically a cheese soup(more like a dip, in my opinion.) I ordered a personal cheese pizza for pickup and it was ready in 15 minutes. The crust was very good and what I considered to be the best part. Not much else to tell except if ever on a late night run I may stop here again.

Horrible. The pasta was cold tasteless and I found a shred of the can the tomato sauce comes in. A piece of Can in my pasta ! Disgusting!!! The customer service was good though, that’s about it. Won’t be coming back at all !!

Horrible HORRIBLE customer service(Waitress making faces when we asked for changes). Food cold, asked to reheat and came back same. I had to take the food home because I was afraid they would do something to my food if I asked to reheat again. just horrible.

This place has the dirtiest environment ever. It looks like you were in cuba. So unclean and bad environment because the waitresses they don’t like working for them because they Are so rude to them. The manager would scream at them in front of everybody. No professional at all. I don’t know who told her that she could be a manager. Although, the food is fine.

consumer BEWARE! I went to purchase a pizza on 12÷12÷14. when I gave my credit card to the lady she went to the back, out of my sight to charge it. at the moment I thought nothing of it. today I received a fraud alert email from my credit card because someone stole my information and has been racking it up. montes de oca is the last place I used my card and I’ve never had an issue. coincidence!!! I think not!!! thieves!!!

Horrible service. Everything was served cold. Music was too loud, the ac was too high. It took them 30 mins for us to get coffee, it was cold and it was basically all milk. The waitress had a BADATTITUDE. Not going back

Walked into this place at 11:38 pm on 02/18/2014 and found a very clean, very cold and very empty dining room, like a museum. Young lady attending there immediately gave us the carra de perra look. That’s dog face for our English speaking Unilocalers. Politely asked if they were open for business, going once going twice and third time I had to raise my voice to make sure she was not hard of hearing. Her response on the third unanswered question was quote SISI! End quote. Quite apparent that this little pile of human waste was clearly not in the mood to do her job. At that point anyone else would have gotten up and left but silly me I give every place I visit the benefit of the doubt so I proceeded to ask for two cortaditos(small milk with cuban coffee very sweet) and some buttered cuban toast. Her response was quote, we don’t serve breakfast at this time so I’ll find out from the cook if he’s willing to pull out some bread for toast, end quote. She proceeded to slam the place mats on the counter in front of us and tell us in an authoritative tone that cash only and are you going to eat here, we said yes and it made her even angrier at our response by the dirty look on her face. Now at this point she could kiss my royal ass and I then told her goodnight and she snatched the place mats and threw them to the adjacent counter. Unilocalers I hope that such a nicely kept eatery such as this choose their evening help a lot better than the woman there tonight and hope this review finds its way to the owners so they fire her non job wanting ass. Restaurant was relatively clean and tidy for a Cuban joint. The service was very laid back and there’s no pressure to hurry or anything, which is good but no big deal at the same time. I had the spaghetti with ham and my girlfriend had this amazing soup with delicious garlic bread. So good, wish I would’ve gotten the same thing lol. One thing: The orange juice I asked for was fresh-squeezed and that’s a big deal for me! Props

The food was Ok, but the customer service was the worst I’ve ever received, the rude waitress even called one of my friends«PIPO» what is that? Honestly I don’t recommend this place at all.

Pizza, no. Media noches, Si! I do love their media noches, I think they should just change the sign to say«best mn’s in town». Might draw in some more business. Also — Inside, not the best ambiance. It’s good for maybe a pick up meal to go to the beach. ya tu sabes.

I don’t know who goes to a Cuban joint for pizza. This was the place I’d walk to for a yummy-yummy-in-my-tummy medianoche after house parties at a nearby friend’s house. The picnic fries surrounding the sandwich are a superb touch to the already delightful sandwich. So why just three stars? I came back to haunt this place after a 4 year hiatus. The sandwich was still delightful. But everything else about it was disheartening. I called to make sure they were still open at 430a. Hey, it HAS been 4 years. They answered«Pizzeria.» Uhhh? I didn’t know they served pizza. So I asked if they were opened. «Pizzeria.» Dammit. Of course they don’t know what I’m saying. I just HAD to get my sandwich so we went anyway. When we arrived, we had a waitress who spoke not a lick of English. THAT pisses me off. They couldn’t even understand the word ‘napkin’ for Christ’s sake! After battling through to get the order, we managed to figure out that she needed chef’s approval to make the sandwiches? WTF! Seriously? Maybe back in undergrad, I was too drunk to notice such crappy service. Sadly, it seems as though I’ve haunted this establishment for the last time.

So for the previous people who go to a Cuban join to order pizza, you should not be complaining that is a shame on you. It is just like when my Asian friends order the bang bang chicken at an American restaurant and complain its not a good bang bang chicken. Well, duh! It is not known for that. I digress. Onto the review. You got to love the place being open till the roosters start crowing early in the morning. I have a special place in my heart for this hole in the wall dump even if no one speaks a word of English. But its not their fault, it is mine for having extremely rusty Spanish speaking skills. However, one universal language every server and customer can agree on is the«point on the menu» tactic. Works like a charm. Get the Pan Con Bistec! I devoured it in less than a minute. End of story about my love for this little hole in the wall Cuban place.

I’ve been coming to this place for the last ten years. I find this place a microcosm of Miami and Cuban culture in general. I haven’t been able to go back and find the Miami Herald story on this place, but to make it short: The owners of Rey’s Pizza had a massive fallout. I believe Montes de Oca kept a couple of his recipes that he created. And so this place was born. The specialty here is the Crema de Queso(Cheese Soup). When made right it’s to die for with the little parmesan-garlic rolls on the menu. It’s a really yummy gouda cheese soup with a little bit of cheese on top. This is where the problem comes in. The quality control on it is atrocious. Sometimes it was really thick as molasses, other times it was barely thicker than water. It drove me mad. So if you’re the friendly-type or have a friendly enough Spanish speaker in your party just ask. i had to resort to different tactics. The waitresses here don’t stick around for long, but they’re human beings. In this kind of place I’m sure they work their butts off for a $ 2 tip. If you tip them the customary 15−18% by the second time they see you they will do backflips for someone that treats them with respect. I loved the soup so much that I took the drastic measure of writing my waitress a note on my bill saying their service could have been better, I’m sure you’re having a bad day, but I can tell they work hard. I tipped her 18%. After that it was like all the waitresses knew I would pay them what they deserved for good service. It’s sad, but that’s how things are in Miami. Still I occasionally have to flag them down for more water. Anyway, back to the food… They make a huge frita(cuban hamburger) that my wife loves, with what looks just like the sauce that Sarussi’s is famous for. Their chicken sandwich is marinaded in mojo and is huge, a bargain for the price, around $ 4. What I love the most is their vegetable pizza. It’s not traditional by any margin. They use canned mushrooms, but then they put in tons of slightly blanched red and green peppers(the one’s they sell at Sedano’s that are half red and half green) and onions. I don’t know, the combination just works for me. All in all, I believe everyone should try their Crema de Queso soup at least once. This place is a great place to stop at after a night out on the town…

This was the absolute worst pizza and one of the worst meals I have ever had. I’m a native New Yorker who has been used to eating good pizza my entire life. One day my friend and I were desperate and hungry and we decided to find out what Cuban pizza was all about. Never again. Basically it consisted of Wonder-like bread with maybe a bit of Ragu-type sauce and American cheese(if it was actually real cheese) on top. Horrible! To this day, my friend and co-worker laugh about the experience and wonder how this place stays in business. Stick with the black beans, leave the pizza for the Italians please!

The original Cuban pizza, estilo Varadero(Varadero style)! Everyone in Miami knows of the reputation that Varadero has — mainly for its gorgeous beach. Its images have been plastered on walls and even made into an icon. Even the tourists in today’s Cuba(mostly European) visit Varadero. But I didn’t realize Varadero was also known for pizza until I went to this place. Cuban pizza is just pizza. But if you’re looking for the best — then put away all preconceived notions of what pizza is(like you did with Pizza Rustica, you know it)! It’s not New York style. Not Chicago, Sicilian, Napolitan, or even Roman. It’s Cuban, and just that. You’re going to have a hard time finding it outside of Miami, this may as well be one of the featured food of Miami’s unique local scene. So, let’s get to the nitty gritty with the question that almost virtually everyone asks: «What is Cuban pizza?» It is thick and soft, like focaccia, but with a different dough. Pizza Rustica? No, because it is softer than that. Sauce? The one I had had little sauce, and I like it that way. It was made up for with the plenty toppings that my pizza had. Tons of cheese(and the cheese even tastes Cuban!). And the toppings can get interesting — chorizo(spanish sausage), platanos maduros(plantains), and so forth. I had the cheese with onions and it was yummy. Also, since this is the Cuban capital of the United States, this restaurant is open for 24 hours and I had a good sweet strawberry shake here as well. You can get your sandwich and coffee fix here too. There are three other locations besides this Montes de Oca.
