I played this course today with a scramble of about 80 golfers and I was a little leery because I remembered the condition of the course from last fall, and that wasn’t exactly good. But surprising to say, the course is in very good condition, considering it’s summer. With the exception of most of the tee boxes, many that are being completely replaced, the tee boxes were the worst part of the course. But the Club is obviously putting money into them and it’s just going to be some time before they are in championship condition. Because it had just rained, many of the holes were cart path only but were in excellent condition, better than I’ve ever seen them. Very green and almost no weeds. The roughs are not long and relatively easy to get out of. The greens were the biggest surprise, probably rolling about a 9 or 10, in good condition with no signs of recent aeration, very green and not burnt. This course is worth what they are asking for greens fees. The food in the grill is also very good.

The greens have been redone and everything is ready for this season’s golf enthusiasts. Today it was rolling slow but the renovations and updates are looking great. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere is professional yet relaxed. Had a great round of golf and I’m happy to use the red tee boxes now because they are finally flat!

I’m kinda enjoying this place. So my buddy Ace started a gig singing in the new Bistro/Bar that opened up inside the country club. It’s called the Woods. Now I’ve been to the Da Club before, played golf here and I wasn’t impressed. Just the words, Country Club makes me feel stuffy and snooty. In the past, this place was like that because of its«private» status. Not anymore lol. It’s open to the public now in an effort to recruit more members. Oh yeah… Danny boy walks in this place like a poorer version of Al Czervik from Caddy Shack LOL. I would have to say that I like this place. The people are friendly, the owner of the Woods which is being leased out by the Da Club, Vinny is a nice guy and the actually owner of the club, Bernie is a down to earth person and very cool to talk to. May I say that a regular joe like myself felt very comfortable. As for the ambiance of the Woods, it’s really not fancy at all. It has a big bar in the middle and some tables inside that’s about it. Because the restaurant is situated on the second floor, the view over the golf course is gorgeous. The building itself is old. Not that it’s dirty old because its not, it very dated like 1970s dated. The yellow paint in the hallways and in the bathrooms are a dead giveaway for the Brady Bunch décor. Now the good part, Bernie briefly explained his vision for his new clubhouse. This will include demolishing the current building and moving a smaller, updated and cozier structure to the south. He has some pretty ambitious plans for the Da Club which was exciting to hear. The food is pretty straight forward chow. Typical steakhouse fare but what sets this place apart is burgers. Now $hit I’ve had many many many burgers in my lifetime. When you think about its not that damn hard to make or cook a burger. Now to make a great burger is a true talent. My philosophy on a great burger is simple, good mix of meat, a brisket and ground sirloin. Cooking it on a open flame. Now that goes against my love of Jacks Old Fashion Hamburgers which is cooked on a flat top grill so I’m contradicting myself alittle. Lastly, cooking a burger to medium or medium rare. A great Burger should not be eaten well done. The Woods cooks a mean damn burger. It hits all the three of my criteria. I would rate their burger right up there with Charm City and that’s no bull$hit. I had the mushroom and Swiss burger and it was off the chain good. Here is what I recommend: go to the Woods on a Friday for Happy Hour for their drink specials, order a cheese burger, and listin to my buddy Ace sing. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!
