I was really excited to find this restaurant on our drive back from Iowa to Wisconsin. We almost couldn’t find it, and the area that it was in was a little scary. We are used to Indian buffet where you are immediately served lassi, two full buffet tables that have the traditional Indian fare, naan, AND, chai tea all included in the price! Oh yeah, and coconut soup to order. This place had one little buffet table with only one thing that I recognized. I tried a few things that looked sort of okay, but I couldn’t eat and one that I spit out in my napkin. Needless to say, I walked away still hungry and disappointed! The space itself made me think that I was in a third world country. I would not recommend, nor will I be going there again.

Below average restaurant. Nothing exotic as the name suggests, they really need to work on their recipe.

Amazing food and very pleasant staff. There were so many vegetarian options that I had a hard time picking. Generous portions with plenty left over. We would definitely go again.

It wasn’t good but it also wasn’t bad. Been a few times when visiting Iowa city for work or fun.

My son and I went here for my first introduction to Indian food, I really enjoyed the buffet! Great way to try new things! We will be back!

I once thought that all the best Indian food was in Downtown Iowa City, but boy did I overlook this hidden little gem in Coralville! Emphasis on the hidden. This cozy little Indian eatery is pretty tucked away and when using navigation, the address lead me to the back of their building… thankfully I kept circling the area until I found it. It shares a building with El Dorado Mexican Restaurant if that helps. Exotic India is my new go-to Indian restaurant in the area. Everything on the menu is delicious — their curry menu is incredible(seriously, it’s going to take me years before I’ve tried everything), their mango lassi is the best I’ve ever had(it’s absolutely worthy of a trip to Exotic India in itself), and the service is friendly and just plain terrific. One more level of convenience is that they’ve set up the ‘order online’ feature on their Unilocal page(access it via the Unilocal app)… easy peasy ordering, and my food is always ready right on time.

Delivery was faster than expected and the food was HOT when it arrived despite the below zero temperatures outside. Impressed with that part. My complaint about my order was that they put my soda inside the stapled shut bag of hot food so it was warm when it arrived. Not really a fan of paying $ 2 for a not even room temperature but actually WARM diet coke. This was only my second experience with Indian food so I can’t say one way or another whether it was good or not. It seemed prepared well. A bit on the pricey side for the portions.

I went there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch buffet. I was the only customer at the time around 1PM. The waiter was very attentive to my need, so much that I felt like he was keeping an eye on my every move! Ambiance is a little cramped because of the location of buffet bar and desk. There were few choices in vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. None of them were excellent! I had their samosa, paneer masala, chole, naan, gulab jamun, rice etc. I am not impressed by the taste of these items. I would still recommend other places in the area for Indian food before Exotic India. There is really nothing Exotic about this place, unless people still consider India an Exotic place!

Love their food and order from them regularly. I’m so glad they finally decided to deliver! I’ve never gotten anything from them I didn’t like. I do find that they can be a bit pricey, but for good authentic Indian cuisine it’s not bad. Would highly recommend

I ordered from this place and they didn’t bring one of the two dishes. I called back and told them and they said they would bring a new dish. I waited more than 2 hours and they still didn’t deliver. The food might be fine(I wouldn’t really know), but I can’t tolerate this nonsense.

I had the Lamb Jalfrezi(Stir fried lamb, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes). I asked for medium spice. I do like spicy foods and medium was the right amount. Really good food, it came with a plate of rice. I thought it was a bit pricy, $ 12.99 should have had a larger serving.

This is the best Indian place in the Iowa City/Coralville area. Good variety of food for the buffet. They bring you fresh nann to go along with the curry. My favorite is their tandoori chicken. Seasoned very well, not too salty, and most importantly the meat is not dry. The only downside is that the herbal/curry scent will linger off with you after the meal, but again that’s a sign indicating their real authenticity.

I almost always get the butter chicken(2 out of 5 on the spice scale) together with naan and meat samosas, it comes with basmati rice too and so yummy. They recently started delivery which is a great deal if you live within their range. They are speedy, courteous and kind; Long live Exotic India

It rarely happens but man, Unilocal you let me down. Indian food is my fav cuisine so when I was in Coralville and on the hunt for my Indian fix and landed at Exotic India. I was there outside of the lunch hour so had the place to myself(with the exception of the dead fly I discovered on the ledge just next to me who served as my lunch companion). I found myself a booth and immediately opted for the buffet with the assumption that I would have no problem finding a multitude of delicious choices. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The food on the buffet did not look very appetizing but I loaded my plate with what I thought would be my best options. Upon returning to the table and trying my selections I was completely disappointed. It was just plain bad. How could this be? How could this place have such great reviews? Is it possible the good folks of Coralville have never had good Indian food? If Exotic India is the best the area has to offer I highly suggest waiting to fulfill your craving for Indian food.

I. Love. Exotic. India. By and far the best Indian place in the Iowa City/Coralville area. I typically order the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, paneer saag and naan. I typically get this to go and stuff my face at home, but two entrees and some naan is the perfect amount to share with another person. Never had a bad meal here.

It was decent food. I went for the lunch buffet. smaller and more lukewarm than i expected… but i did arrive on the later side for lunch. the naan was amazingly fresh and good though. appears clean. the waiters were always prompt. I missed my mango dessert that I had come to take for granted. A buddy that goes there more often. usually for dinner. says that dinner is much better.

Went back again for the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised at the selection. I’ve been to two others buffets in the Iowa City/Coralville area and this seemed to top them. The food was all warm and delicious. The butter chicken was fantastic and I kept going back for more. Their samosas were hot and they had a nice selection of sauces. They also offered some tasty deserts like a sort of rice pudding. It was a bit milky, but still refreshing. The staff is quite attentive to you, if needed, and to the food constantly.

So here’s the down low, up high my young grasshopper. If quality indian cuisine equals lebron james, exotic india equals that kid in middle school who was so retardedly bad at tryouts, everyone waited afterwards to watch the coach edward scissor hands his ass. Miserably sulking and shooting baskets alone during recess the following day was his only recourse. He even«got something in his eye» whenever you asked him how tryouts went. Now, i’m a diversified cook, a world class traveler, an INDIAN, and an individual who already set the bar low for India food as we’re in iowa. I hereby conclude from the two times I have dined at this establishment, it is the worst Indian food I’ve ever put in my mouth and it is an embarrassment to art of indian cuisine. TANDOORICHICKEN poorly marinated and soooo much NaCl(that young salt), it was not edible CHICKENTIKKAMASALA Reenroll the cook in CTM101 so he can be bitch slapped and learn to NEVERCOOKRAWCHICKENINHISCURRY! It draws out all the moisture from the meat. Pretty much leaving it chewy & stringy, as opposed to tender and succulent. A quality Indian restaurant perfectly grills or tandoor’s the marinated meat to lock in the juiciness and gently drops it in the silky /aromatically balanced gravy. I’ve tasted superior microwaveable ctm than what I was served LAMBVINDALOO Simply was not LV. They infused some mango flavor in their dish, destroying this classic recipe. Also, I counted 6 small bites of lamb and 16 big chunks of potato. Not worth the 11.99 GARLICNAAN Average, so no complaints

Had tandoori chicken, meat samosa, naan bread, and mango chutney. Everything was very good and had the delicious unique flavors that you would expect from a good Indian restaurant. Service was very good and the food didn’t take too long to come out. I’ve heard good things from others on this restaurant, I am not the most experienced in this style of cuisine, but I did enjoy it a lot and would come back when in the mood. They got a large menu with all the classics, check this one out for sure if you are craving some good Indian food, they do a great job at what they do.

I love trying ethnic foods and the indian food I’ve experienced, I’ve liked, for the most part. I really like the idea of having a buffet so I can sample lots of different things and not commit to one thing I may or may not like, which is why we went here. Coralville doesn’t haven’t a ton of options anyway so to find indian food in the middle of Iowa and for it to actually be good, that deserves a few stars all on its own. The outside looks a lot scarier than the inside. The décor is fairly nice and the food was quite yummy. There weren’t a ton of choices on the buffet, it’s one line, but there were plenty of things to try out and we didn’t leave hungry.
