Since Red Poppy and Hala Hala are now both closed, Sultan’s is the only Hookah lounge in the Iowa City/Coralville area. I love coming here even though it’s a little bit out of the way if you live downtown. It’s really chill and usually never too crowded when I’ve gone in. The hookahs they use here are better quality than the ones at Red Poppy and Hala Hala were from what I’ve seen. We’ve smoked from a KM the last few times we’ve gone. Glad they use coconut coals over quick lights. You also have the option of a fruit bowl which is kind of gimmicky. It does affect the flavor a bit, and you should definitely try if you haven’t done it before(because it’s kind of cool when your shisha is packed into a pineapple)! The guy running the place is pretty helpful about suggesting flavors and super attentive about bringing new coals as well. Would definitely recommend coming here if you’re looking for a chill place to hang out in the IC/Coralville area. They serve beer here as well. Good prices, good flavors, good service, what more can you ask for?

Sultan’s get major points for being unique in their offerings. Who doesn’t love a great Hookah Lounge, and I believe it’s the only one in this area… with amazingly friendly and accommodating service. This is the go-to spot if you want to get out of the house and enjoy some time with friends, or strangers, but aren’t in the mood for the traditional bar scene. I visited on a Saturday night, and the mood was relaxing and conversational. There wasn’t so much activity that you were drawn into people watching and the 3 – 4 groups that were there had enough space in between them for private conversations(as private as you could expect in a public place). The owner was very attentive, kept our Hookah with hot coals and made great suggestions on flavors to try. And the music… AMAZING! Give Sultan’s a try… you won’t be disappointed.

My boyfriend really likes to hookah and we were in search of a go-to hookah spot. We found this one online and decided to give it a try on a Friday night. Now, when you walk in, we were a little caught off guard as the place can use an interior decorator’s touch. But, there is ample seating(and decently comfy) and a bar in the back. This place is not 21+ but it was not overrun with young kids either. The owner/bartender/hookah expert was awesome! He had some greta flavor choices and we opted to be fancy and got the hookah with a watermelon base(literally, they attach a hookah to a watermelon for some amazing favor!). The music was the best we have heard since being in Iowa(the playlist was straight danceable hip-hop and had us singing along and wanting to get up and dance). This place gets crowded around 1am or so. If you want a casual night, good vibes, great music, and nice hookahs then this is your place! Next time we will be dancing! I would love for there to be a 21+ night and maybe some more sophisticated décor but besides that this place is great.

I went into Sultans to buy shisha to smoke at home. I was not impressed. First of all the room is set up weird. Not private at all. On top of that, Sports Center was blaring from all the tvs. it was not a relaxing hookah environment. More like an empty dark sports bar with a bunch of couches. Then the weird guy behind the counter stared at my friend and I, never checked my I.D. then sold me shisha in a sandwich bag. Don’t waste your time here. Just go to The Red Poppy downtown.

A really nice modern and chill vibe. The owner’s are really hospitable and this is the only Hookah place in Eastern Iowa that serves beer. Plus, it is about half the price of the places downtown, with twice the atmosphere!
