Decent spot to come in to grab a bit of food. Got their new Shrimp Street Taco Trio as a combo. Wasn’t amazed by the food but it wasn’t too bad. Lots of seating, salsa bar, family friendly, nice staff. Inside was nice and clean.

I used love this place. They had the best salsa bar in town. It’s gone. It’s been replaced with cheap tasting taco sauces that appear to have come from Walmart. The food isn’t the same, either. Apparently, TJ’s is in a major cost cutting mode. I will never return.

One of the best fast food restaurants in the area. Local family owned for years. Delicious food. Fast friendly service.

Disappointed — 2nd time there — thought the first time was just an off day for bean burritos then I ordered the sante fe burrito the next time. I ordered through the take out window and was on the road when I bit into it. The rice was either partially cooked or there was dried out rice which caused me to spit out the window There was so few beans you actually count each them. No flavor and too far on down the road to turn around and ask for my $ 5.26 back. Not going back to this place. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me for giving you a second chance.

We love Taco John’s. My husband worked there in high school and today was his birthday and we were visiting Iowa City so we had to stop. We were served by a friendly and kind woman who was very helpful(the receipt said«Clint» but we don’t think that’s her name!) :) We took the food to go but next time I think we’ll eat it there– the food got pretty soggy and the taco shells definitely lost their crunch. The Potato Olé’s were excellent as usual. The Taco Bravo is still my husband’s favorite– he gets it every time. His mom tried the grilled stuffed burrito and thought it was really good. I always love getting a churro!

It’s pretty much like Taco Bell and offer the same products. It would have sat at a solid 3 stars, but went to the drive-thru and asked for sauce with my tacos. They didn’t put any in the bag. I had to park and go grab some from inside. Tacos were solid, but as the stars say, «Meh, I’ve experienced better» dmo out.

This is one of the better Taco Johns I’ve visited. Normally, I prefer more authentic Mexican food but there isn’t always time for that. Though not fond of the taco meat(from a bag), I do like the chicken strips. Either way, it’s fast food and you need to set your expectations and ratings accordingly. I’m sure you’ll find a favorite on the menu. Dang, those Potato Oles are addicting! The service has always been very good. The owner and his son are often working and they treat the customers well. After the flood of 2008 many of us anxiously waited for Taco Johns to remodel and reopen and we were glad when they did. I like the bar with the different sauces, pico de gallo, and jalapenos. Sadly, all the red sauces taste alike to me — mild. Fortunately, there are jalapenos and«green sauce»(pureed jalapenos) if you wish to add a lot of spicy flavor. I tend to load up on the pico as well. Taco Johns is getting a respectable four. The food is okay. It’s not always my first choice for places to dine but the speedy service and friendly employees make me want to say«Yay, I’m a fan» and keep me coming back. That makes earns them a «four stars» for fast food Mexican food in my book. If I can give you a piece of advice, go inside and sit down. Dress up your burritos and tacos with the stuff from the condiments bar. You can tune up the food a lot easier than rushing through the drive-up window and squirting those little packets on yourself, the car seat, and the food. Relax and enjoy.

The people writing reviews about the hot sauce must not really have tried the place out. While the hot sauce packets aren’t great, they have a super-hot sauce that they make fresh in the back. SOGOOD! Their meat is high quality compared to any fast food taco place I’ve ever had. And the meat and potato burrito is TODIEFOR.

No Del Taco’s in Iowa, this will do. Their regular bean burritos are vegan, get the potato oles and you have yourself a fine meal. This isn’t authentic Mexican food, probably due to the fact that you can order through a drive up window.

Gross pathetic excuse for mexican food. their hot sauce packet tastes like watered down rotten tomatoes
