My family and I have been coming here for years. The food is always fresh, delicious, and appealing to the eye. They have new items the menu now because they changed owners. they now make Dominican sandwiches call Chimis made of steak or chicken. they’re very filling and you might not be able to eat a whole sandwich. great deal for the money and safe for the family

This used to be one of my favorite spots until the owner sola the business to his sister. She jacked up the prices and hired some incompetent children. I will only go here when the brother(prior owner) is here. He always checks to make sure my order is correct. When he isn’t there, they end up giving my food to another customer or putting sour cream(lactose intolerant) in my burrito. The pupusas are my all time favorite thing from them. I wish the old owner would take back the business and make it good again!

Thanks to Unilocal for this one… I usually am pretty curious and go to hole in the wall places, but if it were not for all the great reviews here, I would have never been. So the Cuban sandwich… Wow. It is excellent. It is terrible for you and it is cut up into 4 pieces. You eat half and you are like OK one more bit. Then you see the last bit that you really do not want to eat at that point but who brings back ¼ sandwich. Then you feel like you are going to explode. When we went in there the guy at the counter was nice and said they have tacos and burritos perhaps not knowing we want to eat their other stuff. A lot of places I have been to like this the people do not speak English so it is authentic while being approachable. All of the other people in there were from Latin America which is a good sign. They have a convenient paper menu with their very large menu on it in English and Spanish so best thing to do here is stop in get a Cuban and the menu so you can read it at home and decide what you want next time. The hot table changes daily, and they have cheap egg sandwiches in the morning. Will be on the rotation for lunch!

If I don’t feel like cooking. This is one of my staples for a quick pick up and take home to have for dinner. Early dinner though. Like latest 5:30pm. Their Cubans are very bulky, good but more like a Cuban hero. The pupusas are real good. Get the fully loaded. Very filling. I cannot do more than 2. You have some things that are a little unseasoned. A tad greasy and a lack of love on some things cooked. Majority of the food is good. Like mom made good. I have seen officers come get their food here too. It’s legit.

Need to bid JV Tequila adieu and I took my review down from 4 stars to 3 because I do believe the food is good and I’m hoping this was a one-off problem. Went in 2 days ago for a chicken burrito, they’re so big they last me 3 days. I just cut off a small section to eat for dinner and chomped down on a pebble the size of a pencil eraser, thought I cracked a molar but seems to be ok. Still hurts like heck but it’s still there. I’ll have it checked out anyway, but how does a pebble that size get into a burrito? Did they drop the burrito on the floor when they made it? Or maybe it was a pebble from the beans, I know you have to go through dry beans to check for stones. Maybe this one made it through QC. It was scary enough to make me not want to go back and eat mush for the time being.

The best Spanish food on Long Island! I’ve never had a mid-step at this restaurant. Every item on the menu has a home cooking taste to it. Large portions at a reasonable prices. Favorite items are the pernil, arroz con gondules, empanadas, pasteles, alcapurrias, mofongo. However everything this great and full of flavor. Highly recommended for delicious home cooked meals and a friendly staff.

This place is a hidden gem. Every single dish I’ve ordered is absolutely delicious. I know I can try something new each time I come back and it will be amazing. The pernil(roasted pork) and pollo guisado(chicken stew) are some of my favorites. For side orders, the rice and beans are a must and so are the sweet plantains. Not to mention the empanadas are large in size and have a ton of meat in them. I liked the beef ones the best, kinda spicy. Super friendly staff and very generous portions. A+

Every damn time I come to this place I am never disappointed. I have dreams of their food. The place and people are always a joy to visit. I highly recommended everything. I can’t tell you how much I love this place. My only issue with them is they aren’t closer to me. Even if you don’t like Spanish food, the Cuban sandwich is only $ 8 and can feed 2 people. My girlfriend and I pig out for under $ 20 every time.

I love this place! I usually get the Cuban sandwich but I’ve had a few other items and you can’t go wrong either way! I especially love the coke in the glass bottles too! Excellent place to eat at for lunch!

This is the place for a great Cubano sandwich, rice and beans are spot on. The Tequila special sandwich is hot but very tasty, you just cant put it down once you start. The prices are very fair for the amount of food you get. The empanadas are not to be missed either, I always buy one to eat for the drive home. Very happy to have discovered this place through Unilocal, the food lives up to the reviews.

I was so excited to find a place out here that had pupusas!!! Maybe I am spoiled by the home made pupusas that my El Salvadorean students bring me, but they were much fatter than I am used to, and the taste was a little off. I got a take-out dinner of chicken, plantains and rice which was delicious. The portion was a nice size for the price. Want to try the yucca next!

Are you kidding me?! Why have I not been eating here on a weekly basis? Look at all these top-notch reviews, they’re not kidding. This may be the best cheap eats on Long Island. They have a variety of items(about 5 – 6) that change on a daily basis. As a total Yanqui, I won’t even try to use the Spanish names for stuff since I’ll inevitably muck it up — but tonight, I had the BBQ ribs(just sweet enough) and the spicy pork(I didn’t really detect the«spicy» but it was delicious too) over yellow rice and some sweet plantains. The ribs were so perfectly cooked that I think I just LOOKED at them and they fell right off the bones. I’m keeping this super short, because I’ll inevitably be coming back to give it a much more thorough review. As Nick S said, check their Facebook page for menus and daily specials. Next time I’ll probably get it to go, but I’ll be bringing home a few more cartons of food to dole out to my family.

***Delicious/Cheap Latin American food*** Believe the Unilocal hype. I’ve been a couple times, ordered a ton of food, and somehow managed to carry it all back. Be prepared to share. Here are some thoughts on what I have tried: –Cubano: Gotten this multiple times and I’m comfortable saying it’s the best I’ve ever had. Pork is succulent, bread is deliciously warm, crisp and buttered beyond belief but not with a bit to waste. Eating one of these in one sitting is a feat few can accomplish. Not a problem if you’re going solo though, as this bad boy is just as good warmed up. The only problem is one sandwich will leave you feeling self-conscious from providing so many high cholesterol meals. Every calorie is seriously worth it though. –Mofongo: Absolutely great. Pork, the less sweet type of plantains, and probably a few other things, all blended together. While that may sound odd, this was great, and the portion is huge. It would be tough to eat completely in one sitting since the pork is filling but is perfect to share and/or warm up repeatedly(although it dries out a little its still delicious out of the microwave). –Pan Relleno de Pollo: Enormous. This seems to be a theme. See attached picture. Seriously this is less a sandwich and more a giant mass of food. Despite its name, don’t kid yourself that you will be able to eat this with your hands. Utensils are mandatory. Again, this will probably be more than most can finish in one setting. –Empanadas: At one buck a pop these provide some serious delicious value. Pretty greasy but they are infinitely better than anything you can get on the dollar menu at Taco Bell. –Pupusas: I’ve been to a variety of places in Long Island/Brentwood and I think I’ve had better, although these were very good. I preferred their revuelta to queso. –Platanos: delish Takes credit cards? Check. Can phone in orders? Check. Friendly service? Check. Menu with some items that rotate every day of the week? Check. ***Note: although their website doesn’t seem to be currently working, you can go to their facebook page and view the menu/pricing on the photos there. FINALVERDICT: Order a cubano, a couple empanadas, and something you’ve never heard of before. You will not be disappointed. Just make sure there is plenty of space in the fridge.

Wow! All I can say is food is authentic to taste and fresh. Owner is there so he is proud of his food and establishment. Clean! Clean! Clean! Unlike many other places, you walk in and you will not be afraid to sit down to eat. Cuban sandwich is amazing as well as the empenada !! Portions are huge! Come with an appetite!

Wow! If you’re in the area, make sure to give this place a shot. If you’re even thinking of going, go! Despite a very unassuming storefront in a tiny strip-mall, this is one of the best sandwiches in the Stony Brook area. First things first, the inside has seating for about 20 – 25 people with no real thought given to layout besides the drink machines are near the register. There are many miscellaneous items for sale around the store, so it feels to be part convenience store and part restaurant. The walls have various paintings and religious symbols, giving a family-run vibe. Also, I didn’t see a posted menu, rather about ten paper cutouts with food items and prices posted above the drink machines. Everything is pretty clean, other than dirt tracked in by customers. As a note, I could not get bathroom light to turn on. Regardless of whether you like how the previous paragraph makes the place sound, the food is fantastic. The Cuban sandwich its just as good as people have said; the tender pulled pork, tangy mustard, savory cheese, and ham come together on fresh bread to form something excellent. Everything looks and smells great! Furthermore, the prices are more than reasonable. I got the Cuban, two empanadas, and a meat-potato for under $ 12. My only note is that the empanadas were a bit too salty for my taste, but a steal at $ 1 each. I would go here over Subway any day of the week. The food is excellent, if not the ambiance. Make sure to drop in at least once.

Great find! Totally would never have found this place without Unilocal. We tried the Tequila Cubano, ribs, potato salad and empanadas. Warning: the Cubano is HUGE(12−18″) and will feed 2. The ribs are flavorful and meaty and the only thing that would make them better is to serve them with tortillas. The chicken empanadas we liked better than the beef. Horchata is fresh made – you can’t go wrong with a meal from JVs Tequila!

One of the best places for Spanish food ever. Small, family owned, delicious food. Large portions for low price. You won’t find a better deal for food this good. This place started as a small, very small and cramped seating area. Now they have purchased the store next to them and expanded. This goes to show you that with a great product, wonderful service, and determination growth will happen.
