Fish and chips is pretty delicious! Check them out, if not for the comedy show then the Galloway Hooker restaurant downstairs.

We have been to The Comedy Zone several times. We usually see the celebrity comic and have yet to see a bad headliner show. We love Shaun Jones and have seen him and Julie Scoggins several times! Must sees! Some celebrities we’ve seen include Rob Schneider, Pauly Shore and Dustin Diamond. The food is delicious and the waitstaff make ordering easy and hassle free with the«glowing block.» Beers and cocktails are yummy too and we always leave full of food and drink. Seating is super tight and you definitely get to know your neighbor. I am so thankful we have this fun venue close to home and have enjoyed bringing friends and family to see some great comedy!

We moved to Huntersville about two years ago, and the first thing I did was keep track of anything going on in the area. One place I quickly found was LKN Comedy Zone. It is located on the top floor of the Irish Pub, The Galway Hooker. We were skeptical at first because of it not having a separate location, but after the quality of comedians we have seen there I can’t think of a better venue. Our first visit was to see Dustin Diamond(Screech) from Saved by the Bell. He was a lot funnier than we expected, and we loved the layout for the stand up. It was like being in a small banquet room with a D list celebrity. There are no bad seats in the house everyone is close. Since that first visit we have seen, Pauly Shore, Aisha Tyler, Tommy Davidson, Rob Schneider(+ Coolio stopped by), Jamie Kennedy, and Michael Winslow(Police Academy) Check their website for a calendar of upcoming comedians. They often sell out the celebrity shows early because of the smaller venue. Any problems we have ever had before and during the event were quickly solved by Adam the manager. He is very nice and will keep you informed about upcoming shows so feel free to start up a conversation with him. My only complaint would be that for some reason, the bar is different upstairs than the Irish pub downstairs. I can’t get a Guinness during a comedy show. Also servers can become overwhelmed during busy shows, so order a couple beers instead of just one to cut back on any wait time between laughs. I will say, if you can see Johnny Millwater there, then do that, he is a local comedian and is really funny. They often have him open for the celebrities.

I expected good things on my first trip to the Comedy Zone at Lake Norman, based on several of my friend’s experiences, and I was not disappointed. A large part of a comedy club experience is due to the comics performing. If they are funny, the evening is usually a good one despite the location. If they are not, then no matter how nice the place is, you leave feeling let down. That being said, on this occasion both the comics and the venue delivered for me. Open every Tuesday evening and located in Waterfod Hall above the Galway Hooker, an Irish Pub located in Kenton Place in Cornelius, the ‘club’ is at first unassuming. Several large collapsible round tables covered with tablecloths filled the 4,000 square foot room, and on this evening nearly all the tables were full. Capacity is listed at 200 people, but there probably weren’t quite that many in attendance. A small stage, perhaps a foot high, with the familiar Comedy Zone backdrop sits against the outer wall in front of a line of shaded windows. A full menu from the Galway Hooker downstairs is available, with items such as Kobe burgers, grilled salmon and various Irish fare such as Bangers & Mash and fish & chips. I was not hungry, so I attempted to chide my friend Amber into ordering the wings so I could also offer up a wing review. She declined however, opting instead to just drink. This is why she is my friend. The wait staff was numerous and largely attentive, and the beer was cold and tasty. I’ve been told the number of performers varies from week to week, and on this evening there was an MC followed by two comics who were as funny as they were different. The show started at 8 and we were out of there by 10. All in all, it was a good time, and with tickets only $ 10, a good entertainment value. I plan to make more visits in the future.
