Chepy Station Auto Salvage

Looking for a tail light for my car, used car-​parts, came across chepy — called was told they had the part, i was worried the style wouldn’t match, the man asked me to send him a photo by text which I did and he confirmed it matched! Went in bought it and had it installed total $ 100, same item cost $ 180 on ebay + installation, great spot!

In my search for a replacement fender for a 22 year old car, I came across Chepy’s on
which had what I was looking for in the color I was looking for too. At $ 35, it was a steal so I quickly called up the office to ask whether or not the part was still there. The guy on the other end told me he would check and instructed me to call him back in 5 minutes. Well, after about 3 more callbacks that day to ask if he had checked yet, I received a grand total of 3 nope’s. That’s understandable – must have been a busy day, I told myself.
A few days later, I decided it was worth another try and called again. After starting off with the same routine, I began to seriously question the legitimacy of this business. However, to my surprise, the guy calls me back after a few minutes and tells me it’s still there. When asked about the condition of it, he told me that it was scratched up pretty good, but that I wouldn’t have anything to worry about in the way of dents and rust. This was not a problem for me because I had plans to color match any fender that ends up on my car anyway. Finally, I asked for the price. «Price? Fifty-​five dollars,» he said. That’s understandable – must be the ubiquitous Mercedes tax, I told myself.
About a week later, I had some free time and decided to give Chepy’s a visit. After navigating through a sea of solicitors on roads that would put to test even the truest of off-​road utility vehicles, I arrived at around 4:30PM which was nearly closing time (I believe they’re open 9AM-​5PM Monday through Saturday) so I had no expectation of going home with the part that day. Inside the small office, past the pair of mounted dancing titties on the wall, is where I greeted the only guy there. I inquired about the part and was shocked when, without shuffling papers or making any effort to get up to actually check, I was immediately told by this man that, nope, they didn’t have anything like that. Dissatisfied with his answer, I pressed further by revealing that I called only a few days ago and I was told that the fender was still available. «Nope, it was sold,» he said apologetically. That’s understandable – someone must have lied, I told myself.
I was angry for being lied to and for having wasted so much time on just this one chop shop at this point. As I was on my way home, I began wondering what the hell just happened which eventually lead me to call back again a few days later. Once again, I asked the man if he had the fender. Lo and behold, he did! Then what was the deal? Nick, the guy on the phone, proceeds to calls out to someone in the background asking if the fender was still on the car, tells me that it was indeed, and tells me that he will personally break it himself. «Call back in 5 minutes,» Nick says. Well, after about 3 more callbacks that day to ask if he was successful, a grand total of 3 of my calls went unanswered. That’s understandable – a car must have fell on the bastard, I told myself.
Three days later, Nick answered the phone once again and confirmed that, while it was a little rough, the fender was off the wreck and ready for me to swish it away. I dove back into the cesspool of crooks that is Willets Point, this time with plenty of time to spare, and, after an exchange of words, I was presented with a fender with a crease on the wheel arch and a patina of corrosion where the paint had split as a result of obvious front-​end collision damage. That’s understandable – I’m an idiot, I told myself.
