Good service, oddly enough they do not serve alcoholic beverages but we don’t care we don’t even drink like that. We had tostones, ½ a chicken beans and rice and everything came out tasting great. We walked in with barley any people inside the restaurant and about 4 – 5 servers which was shocking but lots of orders being placed through the phone so I’m guessing that’s how they get the most business.

I would definitely never return to this place. First of all we were greeted by two hostesses who took a moment to even acknowledge us. My husband ordered in Spanish and English as the order taker didn’t understand him when he asked for beans in English with his with his meal. When we opened our take out order we found that the order was completely wrong! Our bad for not opening the tightly tied bag before we got home. Anyway, to top it off the chicken seemed to be under cooked and the rice had no flavor at all! Also the avocado salad had no avocado in it. This visit was a complete disaster. There are better Peruvian restaurants in the neighborhood with better menu selections and service. Stay away!

The food is really good. The service was not not bad. The food was fresh and well presented. The don’t have a full bar and only serve beer and sangria. The sangria could be better it only comes in half a pitcher and not really strong. But overall I had a very good meal.

Came here twice with my husband. Food was okay for the price and quantity you get. The sangria was good but the ceviche was terrible and not fresh. Both times we went we found the utensils dirty and greasy but the worst part of the restaurant was being charged for gratuity when it was only 2 people and it’s not like we bothered the waitress or even complained about anything. When we confronted her about it she said the«owners rules» so they charge everyone. That’s ILLEGAL!

There are quite a few places in this area to get a rotisserie style chicken but Don Alex on Corona Ave has become my personal favorite. My girlfriend and I go quite often and we always get the ¼ pollo arroz amarillo y habichuelas(¼ chicken with yellow rice and beans) with an Inca Kola of course! It comes out amazing every time and their green sauce is outstanding. I’m not Spanish and do not speak the language very fluently but I generally don’t have any problems with the wait staff and I’m always able to communicate in some way or another. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the price, we get the meal mentioned above and sometimes we each get flan for desert and the price is in the area of $ 25!

We stopped in for dinner after the tennis matches in Flushing Meadow Park. We were in the mood for Peruvian chicken, and we got wanted we wanted, and more. The menu is difficult to decipher, but we stuck with the chicken. It come with a bunch of side dishes– decent beans, soggy fries, rice(which I did not try), and a nice small salad. We also ordered sweet plantains. But this was about the chicken. The chicken was very good indeed– very nicely seasoned, and even the white meat was tender and juicy. The portions are quite large(1 whole chicken= 2 portions), but we ate it all! The plantains were a nice accompaniment. The service was poor– the waiter did not speak a work of English. I noticed that the bar selection was very thin, so I just ordered the house wine, which was ok. The food came almost immediately, but the drink order was very, very slow. It is great to know that such good chicken is available nearby– I’ll be back.

Just a-ok. Their chicken is pretty tender and the price is pretty reasonable for the neighborhood. I enjoyed their chicken the most. Their rice and beans were below par. Some of the rice was hard. Also, their chicken soup is VERY authentic. It’s not the measly chicken in a soup can. I would recommend it if you are in the neighborhood and want some chicken. However, be warned that their service is VERY slow.

Pretty good and satisfying Peruvian food! I am big on customer service so I gave it a 2 because the service is horrible! Waited forever for water, never got the drinks we ordered. Check took forever and it never came back. I finally made my way to the register. All of this made a bad dinner experience… I’d rather eat at pio-pio! And that’s not saying much.

I have been living near this restaurant for years and have never had a complaint, not until these new waiters got around, I disliked the service since around November of last year or so, when new faces appeared and ruined the atmosphere. The food is good, used to be better, but the service has gotten so bad, I ordered today for pickup just so I don’t have to be served in the place but guess what… They told me that someone else picked up my order already(mixed up orders)… The worst possible thing you can do… They even asked for my number I would guess to make sure I get the right thing… Seriously disappointing, Will never go back or order again.

GREATPLACE! You get fantastic value. The green sauce is to die for. Love the corn nuts. Go with the chicken… moist and succulent. You won’t be disappointed.

Im Peruvian and logically I tried a lot of Peruvian restaurants… this place has a good pollo a la brasa but sadly is not the same case everyday. On a good day you get it juicy, fresh and tender On a bad day it looks like it came out of the microwave, its dry and like it was yesterday’s pollo. This place has been around for years and the green spaghetti was awesome back then… I don’t know if they have the same chef but the green spaghetti tastes dissapointing now. Overall this place has good days and bad days which it shouldn’t be the way a restaurant works.

It took me a year but I have found a true replacement for Pio. Don Alex doesn’t look like your standard Peruvian place for pollos a la brasa. It’s set up like a neighborhood spot, the music isn’t blaring(and I have yet to hear any annoying birthday music!), there are no roasting-rotating chickens facing the sidewalk, and the food is actually cooked to order! The service is good although it seems to be designed for the Spanish speaking clientele… but it wouldn’t be an issue for anyone who’s ordered from Pio. The menu is larger than many Peruvian spots(and may have a bit more of a Colombian influence) but the quality is great. The jalea is crisp and light with just the right amount of sauce and the chicken here is tender, very flavorful, and truly falling off the bone(isn’t that what’s «pollo a la brasa» really means?) and the green sauce is not over bearing. I will be back… and in greater numbers.

My wife and I came here almost by accident. We never had Peruvian food so we figured we would try it. We were not disappointed. We both had the fish but prepared completely differently. I had the fried fish and it was was delicious. It was served over a sweet onion salad and the best fries I’ve had in a long time. My wife had the steamed fish in a wonderful sauce with onions and kasava root. She loved it. The appetizer can be eaten as a meal by itself. It was a cold mixed seafood salad served with an onion salad, sweet potato and giant corn kernels on the cob. If you love lime juice, this is your place. It was refreshing and a welcome change from the same old thing.

now, ive been here numerous times and the food is very good — there are better peruvian places out there, but this is def worth ordering My problem in facet is with the delivery people. I ordered and the food arrived in 15 mins but the delivery guy did not have change(I had a $ 20 bill, food was only $ 10) So as were standing there arguing about why he doesnt have change, and he refused to break his own money he then states, that he will TAKE my $ 20, that it was no problem… WHAT?! EXCUSEME? Uhm no, delivery people should have change, it was a 20 not a 50 or 100 bill — Im sure youd love my 20 but no i was appalled and called the restaurant to complain about their delivery men — hire better workers PLEASE!

I came here on a Tuesday night. It is located on the corner, around the little triangular park in Corona. It is also a few blocks away from the lemon ice king. I came here with some friends and one of whom is Peruvian. I guess he never tried Pio Pio before, another famous Peruvian chain. We tried some appetizers, potatoes with yellow cheese sauce, shush kebabs(a bit too salty), mash potato with tuna salad, ½ chicken, and a big plate of fried seafood. Fried anything tastes good right?! Overall it was a decent meal but it didn’t stood out to me. the chicken didn’t have enough flavor. Some white meat parts were dry. The green or hot sauce was bland. The desserts were really good tho, the lacuma ice cream and some egg cake with caramel sauce, sorry don’t know the name. And try that koool yellow soda, Inka! The menu could be found at the link below:

No please. Do not look for the Peruvian flag on Corona and 108th. I had been wanting to eat at Don Alex for a long time because I walk by it almost every day. Today I finally did, and it was disappointing. The food is as generic as it can get. Actually, I can’t even say it was satisfying. Definitely won’t be back. :-( Urubamba in Jackson Heights remains unparalleled.

Look for the Peruvian flag and you’ll spot Don Alex, a restaurant I recently discovered near Corona Avenue and 108th Street. We entered and a quick survey of the interior and crowd proved promising: two tv’s playing soccer and local families having Sunday dinner. The Spanish language was in the air as we were greeted and given the option to sit anywhere. Plenty of tables for two were open as the larger tables were packed. What distinguishes Don Alex from other places selling pollo a la brasa is a full menu of other items. Let’s offer rotisserie chicken but why neglect seafood and other meats? One can find Inka Kola here but also Chicha Morada, a Peruvian purple corn drink. Before we even ordered, a plate of roasted corn kernels and legendary green sauce made an appearance. Scouring the menu, finalizing the order proved quite challenging –everything seemed appealing. As an appetizer, my wife started out with the chicken soup. This was large enough for two people to share or take home for later consumption. I had a spoonful and would have easily had more if I wasn’t expecting ceviche. Rice, healthy bits of chicken(skin on), peas, cilantro and other seasoning rounded out the plate. My ceviche mixto was the most expensive item of the lot, coming in at $ 14.95. Calamari, squid, mussels, a clam, two crab legs, a sweet potato and some corn made up this plate, along with the obligatory onions. The ceviche was fresh without reeking of the sea. Up next was snapper, red snapper. It was served with rice, yucca, onions and tomatoes. There were quite a lot of onions, in fact that was all that remained on my plate. We shared a side of tostones that were abundant in size, lacking in excess grease and definitely worth ordering again. Next time I hope to try the lomo saltado(carne o pollo) or another of the land based creatures. Assorted helados(ice creams) are available for dessert. I’m glad to have discovered Don Alex during my weekend of Corona exploration. It’s definitely worth a visit for a comfortable atmosphere, friendly service and a bill that won’t break the bank.($ 50 for soup, ceviche, two snapper entrees, tostones. Take away $ 14 for the ceviche and we’re looking at $ 18 per person)

Went here last night with my «stepparents» and Kimby. Her pops knows the spot well, it’s a spanish spot, they had Spanish football on, Peruvian food you know. Nicely arranged, got the spanish steakhouse vibe to it. The chicken is supposed to be crazy but I went with –Bistek a lo pobre(if you know Spanish, it means Steak, Poor People Style) It came with rice, fries, a whole sweet plantain and two well fried eggs. Listen if that’s poverty, I’m all for it. Not super classy, but the classic South American platter(Colombian spots rock that too). Kim got the breaded chicken breast, fresh but not as well seasoned as it could’ve been. ‘Rents got seafood(Ecuadorians love seafood more than Puerto Ricans, how does that work) –I can never correctly remember the name it’s like churras or chupas or… anyway it’s mussels on the shell, plenty of meat covered in the oniony-garlicky-lemony relish. They’re good but i wasn’t in the mood. –and they got lomo salteado de pescado. It’s not on the menu. It’s the classic peruvian plate but with fish. It is by far one of the most unique flavors I’ve ever had. It’s good. But. I don’t think I could do the full plate. Sides guide: –Fries are good –Sweet Plantains are better –Rice is pleasant Mango shake is good, tastes very«ice creamy» but it’s not. I stuck with water. Also they have a bakery next door under the«Don Alex» umbrella.
