Came in to discover my second home away from home. Was greeted by a very kind and friendly staff. Our waitress Frances was very sweet and answered all of our questions about the beers that were on tap. The food came out quick and was delicious! Looking forward to coming back!

So this is by far the best BBQ place that I go to! I highly recommend the poppers and share the sampler plate with someone. After finding what you like you are in heaven. I was a huge fan of the Brisket and Sausage. I really liked the corn fritters with that cinnamon butter. That sweet paired up with the savory of the BBQ was perfect. I would bring my family here when they visit.

The ONLY reason we went to this place was because a few coworkers went the day before and had a beautiful server that they just HAD to stare at again. Super pathetic, but I went anyway because I’m always down for smoked meats slathered in sauce. It was a 15 minute wait before we could be seated, so I took the opportunity to walk around and see the sights and there a lot of them! A lovely pier to walk on, lots of places to buy souvenirs… If memory serves me correctly, I think I saw a Cold Stone Creamery and a Burger King. Definitely made a mental note of the ice cream. I think there were 11 of us, so seating was tricky and not too comfy. I sat at the corner of a very sharp table and kinda sulked the entire time. When I’m eating, I like to spread out, be able to stretch my legs. Nope. They put together two tables and told us we were next. Sigh. Yes, they were super busy, but I would have waited a few more minutes for a comfy area. Could have shopped some more! Maybe I’m being too picky. Our server’s name was Monica and she was the absolute sweetest. Answered all the questions we had, explained the menu to us, brought beer whenever we asked. She was a polished server. Not who the guys were expecting, but they got over it. She was great! We all started with some corn fritters that a colleague suggested. I honestly think some people in my company have some of the weirdest taste buds. Yeah, the fritters were good, but don’t tell me they were out-of-this-world when they still in the state of California. I can’t remember the exact name of what I ordered, but I do remember half a bbq chicken, some brisket, mac and cheese, potato salad, bread, and lots of bbq sauce. The brisket was niiiiiice. Very nice. Had very little fat on it and was tender as all get. The sides were sides. Tasty, but nothing spectacular. I ate everything except for the chicken which I PLANNED on having when we got back to the hotel. Um, no. Obviously that wasn’t happening. When we finished eating and everyone had packed their food into the bag, some went for a walk, some went to the cars, and I went to the case with the beer. Got back to find the food was gone. I asked my coworkers if they had taken it and no one had any idea where it was. Guess what? Busser threw it away. HE. THREW. A. WHOLE. BAG. OF. FOOD. AWAY. The manager was not happy and I’m pretty sure I saw his heart break when I told him that I hadn’t even touched the chicken. He remade all of the food we had and charged us nothing. I felt so bad, but I was still mad! I left my cellphone on the table because I was coming back for it(ANDTHEFOOD) and the busser had it in his pocket! If he’s still there, please, do something about him. I wasn’t even gone from the table for two minutes(still in the restaurant, in clear sight) before he tried to steal my cellphone and throw away our food. Would I visit again? Yeah. The flavours were nice, the atmosphere was great, and the people who worked there(sans the busser) couldn’t have been lovelier.

Let me preface this review by saying I would come back here. It’s in beautiful Coronado, and it’s pretty solid food for a touristy spot. Plus, there’s less of wait than what you’d find in le Phil’s lol It’s so easy to compare the food to Phil’s, but I’ll try to refrain from that as much as possible. I will just say that I still craved Phil’s beefy ribs after eating here, primarily because they don’t serve beef ribs here. We ordered the baby back ribs and the brisket meals. The brisket fell off the bones, but I felt that the seasoning and smokiness were slightly lacking. I needed bbq sauce for it to be good. The best BBQ requires no sauce. This one needs the sauce. On the other hand, the brisket did not need bbq sauce! It had a nice crisp outside, with a perfect red ring around it, and it was pretty tender. It was by far my favorite thing I ate there, but wasn’t the best brisket I’ve ever had either. The bbq sauces available were the mango habanero, regular, and the vinegar-based sauce. My favorite was the mango habanero, which isn’t too spicy in my book, but I would never recommend it to my spice-sensitive friends. We also ordered the pig tails french fries, baked beans, cole slaw, and the corn fritters. I was most excited about those corn fritters with honey butter. I think texture-wise it was more dense that I would have preferred, but it was still good with that honey butter. I’m not going to have dreams about those fritters, that’s for sure. The pig tails were pretty generic curly fries, and the cole slaw was average. The baked beans was the best side by far– it was sweet and delicious. We also ordered a side of corn on the cob, which was not very good at all. The corn wasn’t soft, there wasn’t enough butter, and I couldn’t eat it without adding some salt or sauce to it. Long story short, not necessarily the best bbq joint, but it’s still good. I’m just going to stick to the brisket and baked beans when I come back lol

So as promised, I came back to try other menu items and I’m glad I did.(Now I know to just not order the brisket). Last time I went I got the Cali-BBQ sandwich and omg best pulled pork sandwich! I enjoyed all the ingredients in there! It had slaw, jalapeños, BBQ sauce and the pulled pork on a torta bread. So yum! I actually have been twice since my last review just for that sandwich. Basically I am now a fan. As always though, corn fritters are awesome and so are the pig tails!

Amazing food, and customer service. I came in for lunch and I was not disappointed. I’m not a BBQ guy but this restaurant definitely change my perspective towards BBQ. I order the BAR-B-Q Bacon Burger and the side that i chose was the Piggie curly fries. About 13 min later the server came with my order. From the moment I received it I knew it was going to be a delicious Burger. The side of the curly fries was huge. They had three different BBQ sauces to add to the fries or the hamburger. My favorite was the habanero BBQ sauce. The sauces are a must try!

Only been here once. I ordered Potato Salad, Beans, and Turkey. Service was good. Food was Fresh. I was at the hospital all day, and hadnt had any food since about 6pm Yesterday, but still just no. Everything was fresh yes, but just so bland the ingredients were there, but no personality, and the bbq sauces tasted just weird. I personally wont be back theres way to many other choices.

Very busy, and small location. Food was good. We ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeños & fried pickles as appetizers. Both were legit. I ordered the pulled pork platter with mac & cheese and Corn on the cob. Pulled pork was good and tender, had the choice of 3 different BBQ sauces, the Mac & cheese wasn’t anything special but still good. Our server was Sarah? She was very nice and attentive.

Solid lunch spot! If you want some gold old fashion BBQ, this is definitely the place to go. The BBQ flavour was not overwhelming or too hickory tasting We had the beef brisket sandwich and it was amazing. Fries were a bit cold(only reason why we didn’t give it a 5 star review) Service was awesome. Apparently you can’t beat their meat! :)

Been wanting to come here for awhile now I’ve only been here once for a small snack & I’m glad I finally did come to dine in & it did not disappoint. There slogan is on there wall«So good makes you want to slap somebody!» And let me tell you I almost slap everyone in the restaurant it was that good, but I just came back from church so I chilled. First of all the customer service was great, from the register girl to the waitress & manager all very friendly & helpful. Our waitress politely told us what we should order since we told her we were first timers. We ordered the Mix BBQ Platter, it had Ribs, Pulled Pork & Brisket chopped up with bread with double Mac & Cheese & Double Corn Ball Fritters. My kids & I loved it all. I know people are gonna think I’m crazy but yes I think this BBQ here is better then Phil’s BBQ! Before you unfriend me & cuss at my review & give yourself a stroke from yelling you need to try this place. From the pork to the brisket & ribs all was juicy & tender & there sauce is very good & they give you bottles of different BBQ sauce to taste. And you don’t have to wait 2 hours in line to eat like at Phils. There also doggie friendly if you sit outside you can have you’re dog sit with you & enjoy the breeze & sun. And when you’re done you can walk it off on the little beach they have or in the pier & then take a ride on the Coronado Ferry. Or go shopping at the local mom & pop shops they have here. The other thing I love was they let you bring pizza from the pizza place next door for you’re kids to eat If there not fans of BBQ which we did but our kids ate the BBQ instead that’s how good it was, so we took the pizza home. Over all this place is very good & a must & I will come back. Its a great place to bring you’re fam & take a stroll on the beach & enjoy the cool breeze & some very good BBQ.

Water sparkles sun Scent of smoke rises in sky Memphis bbq by the bay. Memphis bbq. You can smell it from the parking lot. Scent of applewood and hickory smoke. I wasn’t sure what to order so I went with the sampler to try everything. Chicken was tender and juices were dripping onto the plate as I bite into it. The dry rub on the skin and the sweet sauce combined very well. Pork ribs had a smoky aroma and flavor. There was a nice crust on them and the inside was juicy and tender. Delicious. Beef brisket had a good smoky aroma but the flavor was more subdued than the ribs. Very tender. Great with a dab of the sweet bbq sauce. Pulled pork had light smoky aroma and flavor. Tender and delicious with a dab of the sweet bbq sauce. Sausage was juicy and had really good flavor. Curly fries were very good. Crunchy exterior with good potato flavor. So much food… It was about 3 people worth for $ 40. There were 2 of us so there was a bunch of leftovers. :-) There was great people watching and a view of the bay. Service was excellent. I found out from our waitress the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket were smoked in apple wood while the chicken was smoked in hickory.

Realized I’ve never reviewed this place, so here we go… Came here for the second time today. First time I ordered a BBQ brisket sandwich, with mac n cheese which was very good. I got to taste the fried pickles on this trip thanks to my Nana and they were good too. Second time around I wasn’t as hungry and went for the 3BBQ beef sliders from the«starters» section of the menu for $ 8.99…also pretty good. You choose 1 meat for all sliders. My friend also ordered chicken sliders and we swapped for taste testing. The chicken in the sliders was very tender. They also come with coleslaw that you can get on the slider or on the side; the beef do not. If you’re taking the ferry or visiting this little area to dine, note that the area is limited, so you’re either eating here, at Peohe’s which is also nice but pricier/fancier, or just grabbing Cold Stone’s. They’re not the best BBQ I’ve tasted, but they’re pretty darn good, especially for the price and service was great both times I went. I didn’t go to the the bathroom, and based on the reviews, that was a good choice. Overall, I’d come back. Nice to find decent BBQ close to home.

My rating is 3.5 stars but rounded up for good measure… I went here today for lunch. They were pretty crowded, there were about 3 people ahead of us but we hot seated quickly. This means that the bussers and host were on their job. I ordered the Cali– Pulled Pork Sandwich and my husband ordered the brisket. The sandwiches both came with a side. We opted for the corn fritters as a result of all the great reviews I read about them. The service was a bit on the slow side but the restaurant was pretty slammed… so I as forgiving. The waitress also communicated with us in between waits so it made things much better. The sandwiches were both good. Not a huge level of smoke flavor but passable for California standards. My sandwich had fresh jalapeños and avocado which took the sandwich to another level– quite tasty. The sauces were good too. a bit on the sweet side but that’s all right with me because I like my sauces om the sweeter side. The torta roll could have been a bit fresher but passable. I tasted my husband’s brisket, it was good. Tender with good flavor. A fair amount of meat on it The fritters were good and the sweet, honey, cinnamon butter complimented them well. My complaint overall when it came to our meal was the temperature of all if the items. Everything was lukewarm. I would have preferred a hot sandwich and warmer fritters. If this had have been the case, my review would easily be 4 stars. All and all, a good little spot to relax and eat by the water. I will say that the food is a little pricey for what you get. I think an extra side should be included or they could possibly give the corn fritters as a free before or after dinner item.(they’re sweet enough, with the butter, for dessert). I will admit that I got to use an Entertainment coupon which made the visit really worthwhile. I’d definitely consider going back if I were in the area though.

Where’s the beef? Over rated tourist trap. The place is nice and clean. Staff is excellent here. Prices are high probably due to over head and the swarm of tourists. Order a brisket sandwich, mac & cheese and iced tea. Food looked good but could hardly see the brisket. The nice big bun over shadowed the dainty portion of brisket big time. I had to pull some brisket out just so I could taste it. Looked great but flavorless. Kept putting more sauce on it, but again over shadowed by the massive bun. Sauces are lack luster. Mac & cheese was decent, but dry in a small cup. Major let down they don’t serve pickles. Another example of a BBQ place that’s too busy. I can only assume their rushing their meat to meet the great volume they need for the demand. This sandwich plate and tea ended up costing me $ 21(including tip). This is the first time I’ve ever left a BBQ place hungry, and I’m an average eater nowadays. This place is good for a pinch being in the area with limited places to eat, but definitely not BBQ to go out of your way for. I was hoping for much more from reading the reviews.

Ohmygod, barbecue here is life! If you haven’t been here yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. They have quite the beer selection offered by the bottle, which are displayed throughout fridges surrounding the ordering area. It’s outdoor seating only, but who needs to be indoors when you’re right on the beach?! Food always tastes better outside. They have picnic style benches and a good amount of shade, that is if you sit towards the middle. ;) Everything here is so mouthwatering good! All of the meats are tender, my personal favs are the pulled chicken and beef brisket. The mac and cheese isn’t dry, yespleaseandthankyou. And the winning dish is undoubtedly the corn flippin’ fritters! Fried balls of yummy perfection! I could literally eat a dozen of these I kid you not. They come with honey butter(my dreams realized) and the meat also comes with bread(Yay! Something else I can enjoy the honey butter with)! which I love because I feel like«real Texas barbecue» comes with bread. Basically it’s a win-win to eat here.

Came for happy hour and tried a lot of the appetizers. We had the chips with queso, which were very good. The loaded potato skins are topped with meat, queso, sour cream, and are pretty big and filling. The corn fritters are kind if like corn bread balls. The street tacos were kind of dry and not very good. The sliders were good. We tried the beef, pork, and chicken. The beef itself was very good. I liked the pork one because it was coupled with coleslaw which was a nice combination. We didn’t really like the chicken. Items are $ 2 per piece during happy hour. Located by the ferry landing. Free parking if you can get a spot, which varies with the time of day. Lots of bench seating and good seating. Overall, I would recommend the sliders, potato skins, and beef! Avoid the tacos.

I really didn’t want BBQ at the time but I got it anyway. I also really didn’t take a look at the Unilocal reviews which was a mistake. When I got there I seen a lot of Navy guys eating so I had to wait to be seated which wasn’t an issue. Once I was seated it took about 10minutes to get a menu. My waitress was nice and pretty but seemed a little slow to take care of me and the other people at the table. I ordered the brisket sandwich, fries, sweet tea and that came out to be a little more then 14 bucks. The sandwich was very small for 13.99 and it came out almost cold. The meat was alright but the sauce in my opinion wasn’t that great and I was a little sad about that. So when it was time to pay it took my waitress a while to give me my bill. Then she got my bill mixed up with the people at my table. Oh also as I was eating a couple sat down waiting to order but before you knew it they left because the waitress never took their order. The lesson I learned is to check the reviews closely or you’ll be wasting your time and money.

I had some time before last night’s Unilocal Elite Event at Broadstone Coronado, and I figured I’d grab a quick bite to snack on prior to the event… so I decided to check out one of the barbecue places in San Diego I’d been meaning to visit. It was happy hour at Lil’ Piggy’s Bar-B-Q, and I decided to go with some of the $ 2HH offerings they had going on. I went with a Brisket Street Taco, an order of Fried Pickles with jalapeño dipping sauce(they also brought out some ranch dressing), and since I’d heard about how good the corn fritters were, I ordered a small serving of six for $ 2.99. I also had a Diet Coke for $ 2.75 — and you definitely get what you pay for, as the cup was huge! While the Brisket Street Taco was just ok(the meat was a bit dry), the Fried Pickles actually had a good crunch to them, and the corn fritters were simply amazing. Imagine cornbread made into the shape of donut holes and deep fried… and paired with the honey butter, they were divine!(I could only put away two of them — I brought home the rest for breakfast the next morning.) Seating at Lil’ Piggy’s is under a patio — you’ll have some nice views across the bay, but it can get chilly later on. Service is pretty decent, and they give you your bill in a mason jar. Looking forward to trying out more of the offerings(even if they are a bit pricy) — those corn fritters are definitely worth driving up for!
