I thought I’d try this place out since it was convenient at the time, I really needed a hair cut and he has good reviews online. To say his good reviews were misleading would be an understatement. All the other posts are right when they say the owner is a nice and interesting guy but I don’t think he really knows how to cut hair. If you just want a buzz cut, give him a shot. If you want a legit haircut that requires the knowledge of using scissors(not just the electric razor), go somewhere else. The haircut took close to an hour and the guy was noticeably confused for the few minutes he spent trying to use scissors to cut my wavy hair. After $ 16 and a lopsided head, I went somewhere else to have them fix what this guy did to my hair. The overall experience was a huge waste of time and money. It usually only takes about 10 – 15 minutes to cut my hair if you know what you’re doing which this guy didn’t. If you are a ‘real man’ and want a ‘realist conversation’ go to the bar and talk to your bartender.

Nelson is the most unprofessional barber I’ve ever encountered. His racist rants are uneducated and when you try to correct him, he’ll intentionally mess up your cut. The best thing to do is to sit there and pretend to listen while he spouts out his prophetic world views. The quality of the cuts are subpar and nothing special for which he overcharges. What should be a 10 minute clean up will almost certainly turn into a half hour profanity filled rage session. His shop is anything but what a barbershop should look like, since it doubles as his run down apartment. Go to any professional barbershop in Portland, Seattle, or LA, and you’ll realize what a sketchy dump this place is. The one star goes to his dog, who is wonderful company while you sit and wait 45 minutes for him to finish eating his lunch.

Used to go to MLK Blvd in Portland with my dad to get your freshest of cuts and bullshit with the other barbers. Coming to Corvallis I didn’t think I’d find anything close to that. Then I ran into Nelson. My man, gave me the same quality fade as in Portland along with the bullshit. Great haircut, opinionated gentleman, and an all around great experience anytime you go in, even if you aren’t getting a haircut.

The most down to earth barber probably anywhere! Nelson is really talented and isn’t one of those awkward barbers. He is a straight to the point guy and can talk about any topic you can think of. I was a very satisfied customer, and I’m sure everyone who gets a haircut from there will be as well.

Had a great time hangin out with Nelson. Real talk all the time, felt like the old days when people used to shoot the crap together. He’s a respectable man and a good barber. It took a little bit of time explaining my desired cut, i guess sometimes he knows cuts by different names. For instance I asked him to cut me a simple pomp, a pompadour, he knew it as some other name claiming it was named after a boxer, I just went a long with it lol. If its a simple cut, trim or fade I’m sure your in great hands. But for something with a little bit more style in it, bring a photo. My cut came out pretty good, but it took some walking through and after a while I could sense he was kinda over it. Had to touch it up a little when i got home but overall pretty good, and i felt like i was in very capable hands. Next time I’ll bring a photo to dial it in and tighten it up a bit.

Nelson gave me a good fade! At first I couldn’t find this place because it was stuck between 3 other business, but If you slow down enough on the one way street(Van Buren) you will find him on the right. The interior of shop is still under construction but don’t let that worry you. I did notice posters on his wall like The Rat Pack, Muhammad Ali, and Bruce Lee… very cool. He has pictures of different style haircuts on the wall in case you’re not sure what kind of cut you need.
