Tonight was the last night that Savannah in Costa Mesa will be serving drinks and dinner. Before it was Savannah, it was Chat Noir. The then owner, David Wilhelm, decided to rebrand the restaurant as Savannah before his company, Culinary Adventures, declared bankruptcy. David Wilhelm left the company and things haven’t been the same ever since. Savannah closes its doors at the end of dinner service. Tim and I decided to head up there for dinner. I attempted to call the restaurant twice before hanging up. No one was answering. We told oursleves that we would head up there and see if we could get in. When we got there, we found that the whole night was booked, but that we could be seated in the Lounge & Bar area. This was actually my first time to Savannah or any of the Culinary Adventure restaurants. The Lounge area felt much like the set of Moulin Rouge with lots of dark red fabrics and dark, rich wood. We grabbed a table in the back area and Rebekah was our server. It was busy tonight. We both started off with an infused Vodka with cranberry juice. The infusion was of watermelon and raspberries I think mixed with Vodka and a splash of cranberry for color. The drink wasn’t sweet, as I had expected, but I enjoyed it. Tim on the other hand didn’t care for it and opted for the Moulin Rouge drink.

Halibut and crab legs and filets. OHMY! After hearing about their $ 10 dinner special(which is still going on), we had to capitalize on it. Reservations were at 8PM on a Saturday and upon arrival we were quickly seated– total brownie points! Décor: Swanky, lush, dim and romantic. The the velvet rounded couches made you want jump on them and say«Do I make you horny baby, do I? YEEEAAH!» Service: Attentive and speedy, just the way I like it. Drink: My $ 10 Raspberry Lemon Drop(Vodka, Chambord, Sugared Rim) came half full and I felt pretty jipped for paying that much for a measly and tasteless shot. Food: Filet was good. My medium steak would be comparable to a petite steak at Ruth Chris’. Great tenderness and moisture. The mashed potatoes seemed processed, thought the green beans were delicious. The pan seared halibut was an unexpectedly large portion– I would say about a good 8 ounces? It was nice and flaky and was accompanied with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Where can you get this amount of fish with decent sides at this price? Added bonus: The complimentary warm bread and butter pre-meal! No wait, great and fast service, good food at once-in-a-blue-moon prices, sexy ambiance — what’s not to like? Would I come here normally, probably not, being the cheapie that I am. However, I wouldn’t mind returning for a round 2 of their Anniversary Specials. Cheers!

Savannah, you were not yummy. I never ever thought you were yummy, but when I heard about your $ 10 entrée special for the month of Feb, I just had to give it a try. Can’t go wrong with a $ 10 meal, right? So I’d been meaning to go and grub, but I had no time. It wasn’t until the very last day of February that I actually managed to make it out. At 9:30 on a Saturday night, it still took a good 20 minutes for us to get seated. No bueno. Thanks so much for seating us with a mentally deficient waiter who had no clue what the hell he was doing. He stared at us in confusion as we placed our drink orders(how hard it is to remember one Coke, two Diet Cokes, and two waters?). He stared at us and stared at us until I repeated the order twice. Thanks. I think he has comprehension issues. It didn’t help that he looked like a deer caught in headlights. Our drinks came out, and again, I had to point out WHO ordered WHAT. Is it really that hard to remember? This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant! We placed our orders with him, but even then, he remained rooted to the spot. Basically, we had to shout our orders across the table so that he could hear. Even funnier is that he just stood there. First he took my BFF’s order. Then he looked pointedly at me, so I placed my order. Then he just stood there. I had to elbow my BF and say, «I think you should order.» Ever heard of walking closer to the person placing the order?! He just STOOD there for a good two minutes before I elbowed my BF! Same thing for the other two at the table. I swear, had I not said anything, he would’ve just stood there forever. The highlight of the day? The free bread. It was good and yummy. My soup came out with one wedge salad for my BF. Here’s the thing. Wedge salad is supposed to come with BACON. Where’s the bacon?! We had to specifically ask for it, and they brought it out in a tin cup. Gawd! *throwing hands up in the air* I was so amused by the lack of bacon on the wedge salad that I totally didn’t realize… my soup came with no spoon. I actually looked ONTHEFLOOR to see if I dropped it! When I finally realized that I really had no spoon, and my soup was getting colder by the minute, I flagged down another waiter who… didn’t even apologize. He just said, «Oh, you want a spoon?» NOSHIT, SHERLOCK. I can’t eat my soup with a fork!!! Soup was decent, salad was decent(with bacon, of course). Then our food came out. Obviously, my soup bowl was still sitting in front of me, and my BF’s salad plate was still sitting in front of him. The waiter HOVERED my steak plate over my soup bowl and looked at me pointedly. When I looked back at him, he said, «Can you move that?» WHATTHEHELL!!! That’s YOUR job! *rubbing temples in frustration* The food in and of itself was super mediocre. BF described it as cheap wedding food. Yes, indeed it was. My filet was well cooked, but strangely lukewarm. Everyone else who liked their steak medium rare thought that their steaks were overcooked. All of us agreed that the steaks had no flavor, even with the drizzling of sauce that it came with. I had to dump salt and pepper on mine to make it more palatable. One friend ordered the Halibut and thought that it was strangely underseasoned on the outside, and overseasoned on the inside. The crowning victory of crappiness goes to their asparagus. It couldn’t have possibly been more overcooked! I couldn’t cut it with my knife because it would just RIP in a very stringy fashion, and when I popped it in my mouth, there was NO firmness to it at all. It sort of disintegrated in my mouth in a strange pulp. It wasn’t STEAMED, it was NUKED. Oh my goodness. Ah, and add the music. I know that they do parties there on weekend nights, but shit. Do I really need 50 Cent and Ludacris to serenade me while I’m FINEDINING?! I think not. Note to self: I didn’t like Savannah in the past, I don’t like Savannah now. My biggest regret of the night? I was next door to Mastros and I had to eat this crap. Should’ve gone across the street. If you’re ever standing on Anton and wondering, «Savannah or Mastro’s?» RUN to Mastro’s. Don’t walk, RUN. I would’ve given this place one star, but I’ll give it two stars because it really was cheap. About $ 130 for 5 people. Not bad, I suppose. But NEVERAGAIN will I sacrifice SATISFACTORYSERVICE and PALATABLEFOOD for a cheap price tag. Lesson learned.

One word: SEXY. A fantastic place to sip martinis and munch on appetizers with friends or coworkers. The ambiance is great. We arrived here around 9:30 last night for the $ 10 anniversary special and the dining area was already closed so we sat at the bar for dinner. I was expecting the hostess or bartender to be frustrated with us because we arrived right before they closed, but they were both really friendly to us. The bartender was pretty attentive and I couldn’t ask for better or worse service. The lights were dimmed and the volume of the music was just right. I was actually able to talk to my boyfriend without having to yell over the music. One of the walls is covered with a painting of a jazz singer and band and the lounge has a fireplace(!). I ordered the halibut over sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes and topped with deep fried onion slices. I don’t even like onions but they were so good. Yummy! The only thing I didn’t like on my plate were the pickled(?) pistachios. They totally overpowered the dish so I opted to leave them on the plate. They were so vinegery! My boyfriend liked them though so it’s obviously just a taste preference. Joe got the filet mignon with mashed potatos and sauteed vegetables. The meat wasn’t too shabby at all. I washed down my halibut with a raspberry lemon drop martini. It was pretty good but I like my cocktails really cold and this wasn’t. I will totally come back here and try the other food when I’m not feeling Asian(a.k.a. «cheap»). Sexcellent. Love it. 5 stars.

Came here for my friend’s birthday and have to say, the place is amazing! We had a wonderful waitress who was super nice and even took pictures for us. The $ 10 Anniversary deal was why we were here and it did not disappoint. The specials included Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes, green beans, and carrots; Halibut filet; and half a pound of King crab legs. I ordered the halibut, and to me, it was just ok. The filet mignon and crab legs I had from my boyfriend’s order was so good. I highly recommend ordering the filet mignon medium rare. =) The crab legs come already cracked open for you… all you have to do it dig it out with your fork or your hands! Talk about unmessiness. Overall, 5 stars for the décor, waitress, staff, and food. I hope they extend this deal. In this economy, $ 10 for filet mignon? Wow, that’s just unheard of.

Yep, I’m one of them cheap Asians here for the $ 10, I mean 10 year Anniversary special. The specials, were very good at the price. We ordered all three. The Halibut was the best out of the three. The Fillet was tasty but very small. The crab legs, well, it was okay. But again, what can you say about these at $ 10 but«amazing deal.» This place is not kid friendly at all. First we(two adults, one toddler, one infant) were seated at a table with round«car seats.» as we were being seated, we asked for a highchair and was asked to be moved b/c a high chair couldn’t be placed in the walk way. We were then asked to wait outside again for another five minutes while they found another table with regular chairs in a different area. Fine. When we got to the table, we realized my son(5) needed a booster b/c the chair was a bit too low for him to reach. We asked the busboy to get us one. He said«yes, right away,» then never came back. 10 minutes later we asked the waiter for the booster then he said, «we don’t have any boosters.» WTF? The servers were nice. But seemed overwhelmed. Ordered milk and never came. Asked for dessert menu and never came. Maybe they are just not used to the amount of customers with the special going on. Damn bargain chasing Asians. I’ve never seen so many of my peeps in one place besides the local 99 Ranch market…

I am the consummate bargain hunter when it comes to food. I have no shame when it comes to clipping coupons so when I heard about Savannah having some sort of 10 year anniversary special I loaded up the family into the Bentley and headed over. Rumor was that they were serving either filet mignon, alaskan king crab legs or halibut for $ 10. Needless to say, the Vietnamese community caught wind of this deal and came in droves to partake in the feast. I am one of them. After being seated, the waitress handed us the«regular» menus which was a senseless act of futility. I could see it in her eyes, she knew it as well. We all ordered either the filet mignon or the crab legs, some even ordered both. Gluttonous heathens. You know who you are. I was rather skeptical at what a $ 10 filet would taste like but it wasn’t bad at all. Though rather impish looking, the cut of steak was sufficient to sate my hunger for the evening. The sides were simple but paired nicely with the meat. As for them alaskan crab legs, decent but definitely not something I would order as a main course. Savannah, with it’s accoutrement of ebony wood paneling, crimson velvet drapery, leather upholstered booths and dim mood lighting made us feel very extravagant and sensual. Who would’ve thought experiencing such a thing of beauty would cost soo little. Happy 10th anniversary Savannah, I will see you in another 10.

We went for the 10 year anniversary with the $ 10 dinner special. We ordered the filet mignon, the halibut, and the ½ lb crab legs. All 3 were good, but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon was tender, but I’ve had better. The mashed potatoes were simply made, and the veggies were good. The halibut was nicely done. It flaked off nicely and fell apart in my mouth. The crab was a little disappointing… but then I also eat at Boiling Crab every week… so my standards are hideously high. We had to ask for a lot of lime to make the salt/pepper/lime dip. The dessert was a chocolate soufflé and it was amazing. Steaming hot and rich, we shared 2 soufflés among 5 people. It disappeared in 5 minutes flat. night! The service for the reservation was amazing. We were running a bit late, and the hostess was more than gracious on the phone with me. We were seated right away, and our orders were taken fairly fast. However, our waiter was below par, and was not even around for me to ask for a steak knife. I gave up and just devoured my filet mignon on a dinner knife.

I had caught wind of the anniversary special from a number of sources and they were all gushing about the experience. I now believe they were all gushing about the deal they got. This place has a special going on during the month of February ’09. Come in for dinner and you can get a filet mignon meal for $ 10. Ten bucks! Being the big meat eater I am, I decide to come in and pleasure myself with a very tender steak. I told the waiter medium rare and that’s exactly what he gave me. Gotta give props to a place that cooks it right. I absolutely love it when I cut into a piece of filet and the meat juice comes out in it’s glorious red color. This baby comes served with a scoop of mashed potatoes and a side of mixed vegetables. After a few bits of the mash I came to the conclusion that it was a bit salty but I think it was more of a personal taste thing. The vegetables were cooked very nicely and who can say no to asparagus? The lobster beignets were actually really good, but I really couldn’t understand why it was called a beignet. It was more like battered pieces of lobster. But you do get pretty much a whole lobster tail out of it. The waiter that served my party and I joked with us and made us feel real comfortable which is always a plus. He was pretty good considering that the place was really busy. Remember, $ 10 filet mignons. Why wouldn’t it be busy? The reason I’m giving it a three star review is because I can’t see myself coming here when everything is regular price. Maybe it’s my overwhelming sense of frugality, but I think there are better steaks to be had in the area. Not to say this place is bad, which it is not. I suppose most people are liking it now because of the deal.

We’ve been here twice for the $ 10 dinner special! The ½ lb crab legs sounds like A LOT but really, it’s not. It’s prob two crab legs sliced in half(so four pieces) so, it’s really not enough to share. Either way, we ordered one filet and one crab legs. We LOVED both. The mashed potatoes and veggies accompanying our dishwes were nice too. We sat at the bar area during happy hour and were able to order cocktails for cheap! $ 5 for champagne cocktails(I love the peach one) and certain glasses of wines. We also ordered the sweet potato fries(for some reason it was soggy this time, but it’s still perfectly tasting!). Service is pretty good but because of the $ 10 dinner special that’s going on until the end of Feb. ’09, it’s really busy!!! Can’t wait to come back in March for lunch for my friend’s bday!

Came her for the 10 year anniversary dinner. It was wonderful. Upon opening the big door, it looks like you’ve entered a lounge washed in shades of red. It’s really not that dark here like some Unilocaler’s said, but then again, we had one of the booths that was close to the kitchen and it was probably one of the better seats. We were greeted by Nina and of course, we ordered the $ 10 specials. Filet Mignon severed with mashed potatoes, peppercorn sauce Half a pound of Alaskan King Crab served with seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and drawn butter Pan Seared Halibut«Picholine’ served with sautéed spinach, mashed potatoes Yup, they first bring out the crusty bread and then food came pretty much about 15 minutes after. It was hot, tasted fresh, and definitely worth the $ 10. My only gripe here was soda/ice tea was $ 4 each and it takes forever for a re-fill which I only received one. Nevertheless, we followed the dinner with a chocolate soufflé desert and the 20 minutes we had to wait was well worth it. Big hunk of chocolate goodness with chocolate sauce and crème all mixed together in the gooey concoction. For $ 12, it was probably one of the best chocolate soufflé I’ve had. Tips: You will notice a guy walking around the floor who looks like the manager the whole night(ok, this is not a tip but thought you like to know) Upon leaving, you can sign up for the adventure club and they will send you a gift certificate to be used next time around. As for parking, you can park either at park center across from Jerry’s for free or behind Fridays at the structure. The gate was open for both places last night. I will try to be back again!

APPLAUSEFORSAVANNAHFORKNOWINGHOWTOPUTMOREBANGFORYOURBUCK! I got the halibut, and it was delicious. Sauteed spinach with it was GOOOOD! With the mashed potatoes, made it even better! I mean eat the halibut, the mashed potatoes, and the sauteed spinach together, with their sauce that has capers in it, and we’re talking money right there! And to comment on Rhett S.‘s comment, my boyfriend was about to order all three, but he felt bad I guess, didn’t want to look like a pig. I mean it’s 10 dollars per plate. I was happy that I ordered my halibut, Andy got the filet mignon, and the bill with tip probably was $ 26. I’ve never heard my boyfriend say that he felt bad that the bill was small?!(I mean cmon, what do you expect, be glad that it was cheap) My consensus, I’m going back. Now who’s with me?

«Eat your Brussels sprouts!!» How many times did you hear this growing up? I mean… if you were at all a ‘normal’ kid growing up in the 80s then you were more likely to stuff an entire package of Big League Chew in your mouth as apposed to some steamed green cabbage-y lookin’ veggies…(ew!) HOWEVER– Savannah makes a damn good side dish o’ Brussels and mah friend Crystal and I had no problem, whatso-ev devouring those potassium rich lil devils last Saturday night. Did you know that the French brought Brussels sprouts to the United States by way of Louisiana in the 1800s? Them sprouts are Southern, son! So it really is no surprise to see them on the menu for Savannah. They were cooked to perfection in a maple-buttah glaze and Applewood bacon. OHDAMN! They was good! So, anyways… I was so inclined to update mah review for y’all so that you could be aware of these here sprouts from heaven… and also — I wanted to let y’all know of the AMAZING Anniversary specials Savannah has going on for the entire month of February. It’s their 10th Anniversary! And for the whole month of February… they have $ 10 specials for their filet mignon, Alaskan King crab legs, or halibut. Go now!!! And eat your sprouts!

Holy crap, this place is nice! Love the ambience and interior. Swanky, classy, and with a red velvety vibe. Had our after-hours work gathering held here and I must say I’m impressed with the finger foods and drinks offered here. Waitress was friendly and kept the drinks acomin’. Will definitely consider checking this place out with a group of friends… Parking was confusing though(Park in the structure behind TGIFridays) but they validate.

I thought I wrote a review for Savannah but I guess I haven’t yet. So… here I go… I really liked Chat Noir before it was Savannah. Savannah hasn’t disappointed me. I love love LOVE the red velvety heavy drapes and velvet couches. I think it adds to the mysterious and sexy vibe of the entire place. *rawr* I am all about great food and ambiance and Savannah has that. It looks pretty much like how Chat Noir did but they redid the Supper Club lounge area. It used to be a jazz lounge before. I’ve been to Savannah for dinner as well as the club part on different nights. The food was well prepared and the menu didn’t change too much in my opinion. Service was great and the waitresses were friendly. As for the club part, I went with my bf and some friends for my coworkers bday and they were about to charge us an entrance fee but my friend and I talked to the guys in front(very sweetly of course ;p) and we got in for free. The music was decent and it filled up quickly because of a fashion show that night. I have yet to go their for their happy hour specials which I heard was good… I’ll check it out sometime soon.

Went for a bday dinner… it is delicious! I ordered their smoked prime rid from a recommendation of my friend and I am sooooo glad I did. A thick slice of med-rare smokey goodness, with a side of savory au jus and creamy horseradish and garlic mashed potatoes. Another very very notable dish is my roommate’s Pork Tenderloin with porcini mushrooms and gnocchi. When I come back I’m going to order this! All the dishes that night we’re enjoyed. We also ordered a pumpkin soufflé and a crème brule which were also very yummy. We checked out the lounge after, but felt like going somewhere a little more upbeat. While it had some hip hop music going the crowd was a bit older that night and more chill.

Savannah is doing a fantastic lunch special right now. All of their lunch dishes are less than $ 10. I’m not sure how long it’s lasting, but as long as it lasts — I’m happy. I ordered Savannah’s Southern Chopped salad from this express lunch menu and was quite happy with it, a Hell of a lot better than what I would have got at a thousand other places for $ 8, that’s for sure. And when they say express, they aren’t kidding, I had barely taken 4 bites of my salad and they dropped the check off — pretty efficient lunch. It’s not often you get to dine in plush velvet booths for less than $ 10 per person. So strap on that blutooth and head on over with your meager wallet to dine at Savannah with all of the suits that love lunching there — it’ll be worth it!

So Kristine R., was my partner in crime to this place considering one weekend we decided to go on a Unilocaling spree… well somewhat. From what I can recall, this is what happened. I picked her up, when to this place, and realized how weird the parking situation was due to construction. After getting into the restaurant, the dim atmosphere does add a nice touch, I should have taken my glasses to get a better look at the décor and atmosphere. I was hoping for a live jazz band to play, but all I got was background music. Kristine has a list of all the foods we ate, so mosey on over to her page, to get her taste bud satisfaction. The Surf and Turf(if that’s correct) dish was decent, I was expecting a bit more from the Steak, but it was juicy enough I suppose. The appetizers were decent, and I agree the sauce wasn’t spicy enough. I wanted to get dessert, but Kristine was being a buttmunch so we decided to pass on it. The service from our waitress, was excellent so nothing I can remember. But one thing that stopped me from giving this place a full 5 stars, is the option of 1 on 1 seating. Sure you need to be able to cater to large groups, but the booths weren’t ideal, especially if you’re going on a dinner date with someone. It ruins the whole dynamic, considering body language plays a big role during the communication phase of dating, and that’s just basic etiquette. Was this place worth a bang for my buck? Almost, tone down the prices a bit… if not, get some live music, and some tables to accommodate more«formal dinners and a dating atmosphere.» Problem solved.

For all you guys out there I feel this is a great place for a first date. Not too expensive, romantic and the food is consistent. Owned by Culinary Adventures which also does French 75 there menu is very similar but with a Southern twist. Don’t worry even though they don’t show them on the cocktail menu they still have there champagne cocktails.(Thank goodness!) The décor has very little differences since it was Chat Noir. However, the service is very friendly and the food(although not cutting-edge) is high-quality and satisfying. Also, not sure if the waitress just forgot or it’s a new rule but they didn’t charge us for corkage!!! Wahoo! Just like French 75 I will continue to dine here on a regular basis. :)
