Gardens West

Jay and his crew did a wonderful job on our backyard project. Jay listened to all of our ideas and incorporated them into his design for our yard and made everything happen within our budget. During the work, he was very attentive to our concerns and in the end everything turned out great. Gardens West was able to transform our bare yard to an inviting space that we enjoy very much.

Jay and his fantastic team at Gardens West have just completed a wonderful transformation of our back yard. Our yard is relatively large. However, aside from a small patch of grass, it had been unusable, as a result of largely impassable and thorny landscaping installed by the previous owner. We decided to put in a pool and open-​up all other areas of the yard. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, and received quotes from several different contractors. Jay stood out from the bunch straight away. We instantly liked him as a person, and felt very confident that he would be honest, genuine, and of course competent. Not only that, but Jay’s price was the best we received — an absolute win-​win, as we would have chosen him regardless! From the get-​go, Jay was an absolute pleasure to work with. We collaborated on devising a fantastic plan for the yard. Jay was always very receptive to our ideas, and offered fantastic suggestions to make them even better. Between the pool, surrounding hardscape, and entirely new landscaping, there was a lot involved. It all came together beautifully. Inevitably on a large construction project, we made tweaks and changes as we went, and it was never a problem. Whenever little snags were encountered, they were quickly and efficiently dealt with. Throughout the process, Jay always kept a very concerned eye on our budget, which was greatly appreciated.
Roberto, Jay’s right hand man, has a wide-​ranging skill-​set and completed excellent work. Sub-​contractors used for the pool and concrete were top-​notch. Everyone who had a hand in the project was very amicable and a pleasure to deal with. Attention to detail was faultless, and we are absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work.
I have previously spent several years working in the construction industry, and have no hesitation whatsoever in giving Jay and Gardens West the highest possible recommendation — you will not be disappointed! I have attached before and after pictures to provide a better idea of the scope of the work completed by Jay.

I LOVE our front yard! What an AMAZING experience we just had with Jay and his team at Gardens West! Jay came to our house to take a look at what we had and to talk about what we were wanting. He was very prompt each time he came. He called us a few days later with plans drawn out and an estimate. Jay took his time with us, answering our numerous questions while we settled on the plans. Jay kept us informed with what to expect each day and even finished before his estimate. Roberto and team were very professional and did a fantastic job on our yard. I love standing out front and getting lots of looks at our yard from drivers and our neighbors all complementing the work that was done. We can’t wait to have them do our back yard next! Gardens West just completed our front yard. Jay took our hodge podgy of a yard to a beautiful landscaped yard! My wife and I could never have done this ourselves. Jay drew up the plans, selected all the plants and flowers, delivered massive boulders to the front and he and his crew executed the plan. We can’t wait to see it all bloom and grow in the years to come. «Thank You» Gardens west!

Gardens West has recently helped my godmother transform her garden into a showplace. The garden was overgrown from years of neglect, and now it is stunning: very English looking with lots of roses, dahlias, and a wooded area with rhodies and azaleas. The staff have been incredibly efficient, pleasant and responsive –something I appreciate so I don’t have to worry. Gardens West are irrigation specialists– no more hauling around a hose with two connections. They set up spraying rainbirds and drip systems. Although they aren’t inexpensive, they are top quality– well worth the money for the quality received. Gardens West’s owner made it clear to us that it’s been his long standing policy to be paid weekly, so that we are able to give feedback on a weekly basis. We have been able to continue to improve the garden based on this ongoing relationship.

Wow, Jay and his terrific staff at Gardens West just finished a complete new front yard at our home. We were so pleased not only with the quality of work but with the constant communication from Jay. Jay inspected each and every plant and tree that was used for quality. The staff was on time, hard working, friendly and always happy to answer questions. We would highly recommend Gardens West. A million thanks Jay, for a job well done.

It has been a few years since GW landscaped my property. In the days before Unilocal.I paid GW almost $ 80k. It didn’t bother to ask for money back when GW walls around my spa collapsed (See PHOTO 10). About $ 6k plus I paid another company to build new ones. Just to frustrated to bother.
Keep in mind when viewing my photos and reading my comments that Jay West never replied to my numerous calls to please visit the job site and see what was going on. When I posted on Unilocal,he replied suggesting I was duped by a company pretending to be GW. When it became apparent I was not duped, he quit corresponding as I sent these photos and more.
PHOTO 1: GW poured the patio and added the stairs to the existing deck. The lower step is out of code. It will probably cause me problems when I sell my house. It is definitely dangerous as it catches you off guard. A repeating theme is I had to point this out. Of course potential fixes were «too expensive».
PHOTO 2: The verticals on some of my stairs are not even vertical. The plum is vertical per gravity. This is actually after a rework to fix it. I just gave up.
PHOTO 3: Plain lazy. No care for quality. Copper line under the house was cut to insert a Tee that would feed an irrigation line. Rather than cut the copper line shorter, it was simply pushed outside extending the faucet beyond normal.
PHOTO 4: The stair rail is farther from the outside at the top and it is at the bottom. As is enters the next stair set, it actually goes over the outside support.
PHOTO 5A and 5B: The hand rails had to be redone because one post was cut into the stairs and the other extended out. Fix was to cut shorter the one that stuck out and put into stairs — saves materials. The result is PHOTO 8A and 8B whereby one bottom rail is 1″ from the deck and the opposite side is 2″.
PHOTO 6: Not the left vertical is farther from the post than the right (which is hard to see as it is pretty much against the right post). Not that if the center post and its board were to be flipped 180 degrees the problem goes away. Simply careless.
PHOTO 7: I came home from a trip and my front deck was crocked. Per theme, I had to be the one to point it out. I assured it would be fixed and left on a trip to Mexico with my wife. Upon return, this is what I had. Still crocked. Just less so. Fix was done on the cheap so as not to spend on materials.

PHOTO 9A and 9B: Transition from prior stair rails. One side is 1″ and the other is 2″.
PHOTO 10: Two things here. One, I was asked to approve raising my spa patio due to inability to excavate underneath. I subsequently found out this was not necessarily the case but excavator budget is over. Result is a hassle to mow and dangerous when going to spa at night. Second, I asked GW to subcontract walls and they refused. They build terrible walls. I hired subcontractor I wanted and they build the walls shown at a lesser price when means GW could have made me happy and made money. Clincher is when subcontractor pushed on GW walls with feet when quoting, the GW walls fell over. The GW employee who build the walls was not qualified.
PHOTO 11: The grass. edging has broken throughout my property. Properly installed one should cut reliefs on the inside of the bend to prevent this.

Jay at Gardens West is a very professional and honest man. I was pleasantly surprised to see what an awesome job his worked Roberto did on my yard. He explained what he thought would look good and I agreed! Beautiful!
