For a department store in a small town, this Penney’s is really kind of a hidden gem. I’m posting this review after having to make a couple trips between this store and the one in Flagstaff. Yeah, the Flag store is bigger, but we didn’t find what we needed on a recent trip, so we headed to Cottonwood after hitting the JC Penney website to check stock levels of some specific boots and jumpers we wanted. Over the«Black Friday» weekend, we shopped the store and the sales, and they seemed to have their act together. The shoe department is really big, and has a pretty amazing selection of women’s flats, heels, and boots! Good-sized kid’s(toddlers, boys/girls, etc.) section with good brands and fun choices(Frozen!). Lingerie was well-stocked and laid out nicely, with a dressing room just steps away. Surprising fact: This store has a men’s formal section with suits, shirts, and a rainbow assortment of ties. Also, tons of jeans. Jeans are apparently quite popular here. Their jewelry and watch counter has some nice pieces, but we didn’t spend much time there because we had clothes to buy. While shopping, we noticed the store was deceptively larger than it appeared from the outside, and it had only updated and modern styles. It’s clean and well-lit, organized, and even has a dedicated handicapped dressing room, a nice touch and appreciated. The staff was pleasant, if not very busy with all us shoppers, and I’d like to think they’re just as helpful when it’s not so crowded on a normal shopping weekend. I especially appreciated the extra discount we received when we applied for a Penney’s charge card. Take note: This is not a «mall store», so it doesn’t keep«mall hours». So, regarding the previous poster’s issue with Unilocal posting the wrong store hours, more reliable info like store hours and can be found using Google — it seems they are more proactive in posting updated info. All in all, a very positive experience. Pro’s: — Easy to find, and great parking(lots of handicapped spaces right up front) — Good selection of men’s, women’s, and kid’s clothes compared to other local stores — Friendly employees — Competitive prices Con’s: — Not a full-sized Home department(but you can order at store and get it sent there for free, which for me, this was the best way to get my coffee maker and toaster oven) — Needs a bit of updating — No makeup/cosmetics Bottom line: Shop here for fashionable clothing at reasonable prices, a helpful staff, and convenient to all the Verde Valley cities.

Store hours on weekdays start at 10 not 9. Bummer. Daughter needed dress for school and waited till last minute. Followed time on Unilocal and it was wrong. Out of luck. Lesson learned.
