Mike’s Professional Tree Service

I knew some people who used Mike in the past and read the reviews here on Unilocal.Yes, he is a bit gruff, but as long as you can deal with that his service his excellent. We had a few trees that needed to be taken down along with their stumps. I set up an appointment for an appraisal the next week. Two days later Mike calls and says he will be in the area the next day. Great! I was not able to meet him face to face but my wife did. She called me while he was there and we set everything up. He was nice enough to both of us. He is a working man people, not a snooty country club exec. The price was great and the crew was there a few days later. It was raining but they still cut the trees down. They came back to next day for the stumps and cleanup. The work was better than expected.

Mike the owner stop to give me an estimate. While all other companies went to look at the tree, he decided just to look at it from a distance in my front yard. The tree was in the backyard and was a very big job.
Then he tried to pressure me in giving him the job on the spot. When I asked for a couple of days to think about it… with the other quotes I received. Then he left in a huff and drove away. And through away a crumple estimate on the street outside my house. I couldn’t believe how unprofessional this gut was. As a business owner this is not how anyone should run a successful business. How he calls him self professional is a complete joke. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

Mike’s «Professional» Tree Services did not do the work they were supposed to do. Three 5am calls to discuss the job were very unprofessional, the owner showing up unannounced to talk buisness. The owner has a very strong personality, is condescending and is unprofessional. Calling a client at 5 am is not acceptable no matter how urgent you need to discuss business! When my husband called to discuss business, Mike was very abrupt and rude in response to a question about a shingle that had fallen off my roof.

I had no problem with the quality of the tree removal work done a few years ago, but I would advise anyone to find another company based entirely on the owner’s unorthodox behavior and lack of professionalism – 5:00 a.m. «wake-​up» phone call on the day of work to discuss the day’s plan followed by a hysterical tirade when I paid his on-​site worker upon completion of the job (and who accepted payment in Mike’s absence). Mike’s 5:00 a.m. «meltdown» phone calls continued for the next several days until he found his worker and got his check. In summary, acceptable tree work at a reasonable price, but completely «unprofessional» owner conduct. Mike’s «Professional» Tree Service needs rebranding – big time! Surreal and scary experience.

I’ve used Mike’s Tree Service twice over the last three years and really wish I could give a better rating. Mike is a nice enough guy but he does have a strong personality and will only give you a verbal quote. I never had a problem with the quote not matching the bill, but I have had issues where other things he promised while on-​site were not recalled when following up in the future (pricing on future work, firewood, etc). The crews themselves worked quickly and professionally and cleaned up better than expected. Overall pricing was significantly less than other quotes I received.
Honestly, if a quote would be made on paper instead of a handshake so there was no question of what was agreed upon my rating would be 5 stars. Reading over the other review it seems most peoples concerns were from differences in what they thought they agreed to when quoted versus what was delivered.

Mike was great. He came to give an assessment and quote. I paid over the phone. His crew came when he said they would. They did what they said they would, and left the place clean. He also offered an easy payment plan so we weren’t stuck paying all at once. The only thing is that he gave me a verbal quote, which made me a little uneasy. But, in the end, he did what he said and charged what he said… no tricks.

They showed up right on time, did a great job, and did it very quickly. And, they did an excellent job cleaning up after themselves. Highly recommended.
