Danny’s is a great little Deli in the East San Gabriel Valley. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner here, and I was not disappointed. Their deli sandwiches are wonderful and bigger than most restaurants. You must try their pastrami or corned beef. Their Covina sandwich is patrami or corned beef on rye with cole slaw, or you can have a traditional Reuben sandwich with sauerkraut. You can’t go wrong with either. How about a bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomatos and a slice of onion. Their matzo ball soup is just what the doctor ordered. Some people are used to processed corned beef hash. This place has their corned beef in chuncks fried with some potatos(definitely home made). This place is tucked away in the middle of a strip mall, but if you’re on Azusa Blvd between San Bernardino Road and Badillo Blvd, stop on by. You won’t be disappointed. If you’re like my wife, she can eat breakfast any time of day, and thankfully, Danny’s serves it all day long. Kids eat free after 2pm so bring your kids or grandchildren. The service is attentive and friendly. Their menu is extensive and has something for everybody. Drop on by and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I chose to come here because of the solid 4 stars on Unilocal.I read the reviews and was convinced it was a great little place. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Not in the service(it was great). But in the food. Their pancakes and french toast have absolutely no flavor. Their sandwiches did not have nearly enough meat and way too many condiments. Maybe it was an off day. I don’t know. I really don’t want to try it again.

Definitely not a New York Deli kind of place. I was not impressed by anything here. The sandwiches were small the soup was cold and the owner is Asian! Come on people get with it! Where can I find a good New York Style Deli out here?

We decided to try this place after seeing that it had an average of 4-stars on Unilocal. The pictures of the sandwiches looked good, and they had bacon, so why not? Service was fast and the girl was polite. I ordered the french toast and he ordered the Danny’s club. I was pretty disappointed when the french toast came out, and it looked so sad and pathetically thrown on the plate. French toast had no flavor. The fries were bland. The sandwich? Not enough turkey and way too much mustard & mayo. Won’t be coming back here. We left rather confused about how they could have such a high rating, and decided maybe that the cheap hearty/greasy breakfast made good hangover food.

Boyfriend and I were looking for a good breakfast place, as we are new in town, and we came across Danny’s Kosher Pickle on Unilocal,of course. I wanted pancakes but because I have been spoiled by Paula’s Pancake House’s Danish Pancakes, I’m always sure other pancakes are not gonna be as good so I ended up getting the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Very tasty. Nothing particularly special about it but it was tasty. I also ordered hash browns and boyfriend ordered the waffle. The hash browns were very good but be aware that I am not hard to please when it comes to hash browns. Boyfriend’s waffle was ok. It was a little too doughy and didn’t have a lot of flavor. All I could really taste was the butter and syrup. I definitely won the«who got the better dish?» competition. Huzzah! Overall, the food was ok and we’ll likely go again and try something else. First review!

How can you miss that green pickle? This place is in the same plaza where the DD’s Discount, CVS and Smart & Final is. The server we had during lunch was a little slow. Drinks came out fast, but it took her forever to come over to take our order. My husband texted me during our lunch, «I see old people». HAHAHA All the booths were filled up around the perimeter & I think we were the youngest guests eating there. So I whispered him, «Does this mean we’re old too??» … :P Anyway, sandwiches we ordered were both good(turkey on wheat and corned beef reuben). Portion was decent and everything tasted good(cole slaw & fries as well). We’ve always tried their omelets here, which are not bad. Other than the service being a little slow sometimes, they need to upgrade their booths.

I came across this place while using Unilocal because I was really in the mood for some matzo ball soup and a pastrami/corned beef sandwich. I was sick. it was rainy and I wanted to eat something hot. So, I made the trek out to Covina, to see what the hype was all about. Before I go on, I must let you know that the mark of a good deli, according to my Jewish friends, is that they have good matzo ball soup and corned beef/pastrami. Of which, this place is good! Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by this 4 ft tall frog. Interesting idea to say the least. The rest of the restaurant was more like a diner style where you have the choice of sitting on stools, at booths or tables in the middle of the establishment. I chose to eat at a table because the Oregon/OSU game was on the tele. WHAT I ORDERED: — Bowl of Matzo Ball/Chicken Noodle soup — The Covina Sandwich(corned beef/pastrami) on rye with The Matzo ball/Chicken noodle soup was just what the doctor ordered. The chicken was soft and good and the noodles reminded me of the ones that come in the Campbell Soup cans. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the matzo ball, but I needed to remind myself that this wasn’t a place like Brent’s, Nate N Al’s, or Vic’s. But it was definitely good, no doubt. The sandwich was so big that one of the ½ had to be cut into ¼s. It was definitely a sandwich fit for a king! It came with fries and a pickle spear. The meat was tender enough, the swiss cheese was good and the dressing wasn’t too overpowering or didn’t dominate the sandwich either. My favorite part about the whole sandwich was the fact that the bottom piece of bread wasn’t soggy. Oh, there is nothing I hate more than to go to a deli and have a sandwich with a soggy bottom piece of bread. Some places(i.e. the Pasadena Sandwich Company) double slice it. Which gets extra kudos points in my book. WAITSTAFF: The wait staff were pretty friendly and continued to refill my Arnold Palmers with a smile. For that, I gave them a generous tip. It’s hard to find good wait staff these days! VERDICT: Yeah, I will come to this place again. It’s not crowded like the other authentic delis that I have been to, but the food is good enough to warrant me coming back again. But, as with all authentic delis, please be aware of the price tags. Places like this aren’t cheap. My lunch came out to be about 20 bucks with tax and tip. But very very very well worth it!

What can I say? It’s Dannys! This place used to be over off Badillo and Grand Ave a zillion years ago… back in the days when it was near TG&Ys and Market Basket supermarket… we’re talking YEARS ago. Oh man was it unbelievably AWESOME then…6 stars out of 5! Then it moved to Azusa Ave and got bought… then it moved back from the street still on Azusa between San Bernardino Rd and Badillo in the same center with DD’s Discounts and Save On Drugs. The best thing about Dannys to this day? The food… coffee shop food… yes…bangin…yes! Matzo Ball soup kicks as much @zz as Matzo Ball soup could… and the Scrambled Eggs and Lox in a word ROX!

It’s impossible to find a legitimate deli around this area, but my search is finally over! I’ve been here several times, and plan on being a regular! Out of the sandwiches, I’ve had their turkey bacon melt, which is great. I also had the hot pastrami. The meat is tender, and the bread was fresh and delicious. Can’t have a good sandwich without great bread! I also asked for grilled onions, which were grilled to perfection. Their breakfast menu is extensive and delicious, and is served all day. They also have many other selections of other types of food, such as steak, seafood plate, and the works. I think they also have a kids eat free special during the week, which is pretty cool. I might bring my cousin or something sometime. Top that all off with a Dr. Brown’s bottled cream soda or black cherry soda and AWESOME service, and you’ve got a great restaurant!

i have to say, it used to be better before they changed owners, but this is still a good place to go. Used to live right across the street, and this place has seen me come in dressed up with family for lunch, and hungover in pjs with friends on a saturday afternoon for breakfast =x their omelets are AMAZING! also a good sandwich place and they make yummy fries. the most amazing hush hush thing there? the baklava! they have individual portions wrapped up under the counter, ask for a piece when youre paying, you wont regret it. =]

Don’t bother ordering pancakes here. You’ll be disappointed. I had to have my Short Stack switched to French Toast. I lifted a pancake from the plate to butter it, then it proceeded to crumble into pieces. Yeah, ’nuff said.

I lived in Covina pretty much all my life and OHMYGOD why didnt I just pull in here before? I saw the place for years but never did go in. What a FOOL! Here I thought I had to drive to LA for some DELICIOUS food and Lowe and behold! it was in my own backyard. Not only is it GREATFOOD but the staff are GOODPEOPLE and in these times of franchise food thats a GREATFIND! I had the COVINA #7 for my hometown of course, Its triple Decker Corned beef Pastrami Sand which with cheese and DELICIOUSNESS oh and with steak fries. My Awesome beautiful wife had the Liver and Onions with a potato cake. Now I dont like Liver at all BUT she LOVED it saying«THISISTHEBESTLIVER and ONIONS I HAVEEVERHAD» i know who would of guess. DESERT: my daughter picked the Strawberry Shortcake which I have to admit ended the meal with something sweet. Look, its what COVINA is about a lot of KIND locals who know the names of the people who come by often. This definitely is a hidden GEM that I finally dug up and found in my own yard. THANKSTO: My wife and 2 kids, The Kindest waitress and Hostess and of course Unilocal.COM for the find.

Loved it! Thank you Unilocal! I had the matzo brie & a Dr. Brown’s cream soda for breafkast — it was amazingly delicious. My mom had the eggs benedict which was killer also. So glad I found this place next to Unilocal! It’s a relief to know that there’s a good Jewish deli that I don’t have to drive into LA for now!

Had a BOGO free coupon from the Entertainment book, and Steve and I were driving aimlessly around the area, so we decided to go to see what was up… and if this place could be a stand-in for PSC, which I don’t get to go to nearly as often b/c I don’t work in Pas anymore. He had the Reuben and I had the pastrami. Both were good, with flavorful meats, but the bread was a little dry(and therefore fell apart as you ate the sandwich) – but did I care? Not really. The Reuben was a serious sandwich – not huge, but the sauerkraut was no joke: crispy and sour and(though I’m no kraut expert, it seemed that it was) freshly made at Danny’s. It was grilled nicely and the Swiss cheese finished it well. The pastrami was also good, though it didn’t pack the sleepy-time punch that the Reuben did. It was served on rye(b/c it wasn’t grilled, I think the bread was more break-apart than the other sandwich) too. I opted for a side of fries($.99 w/the sandwich), but didn’t finish them. They’re steak fries, which I normally like, but they seemed a little lacking somehow. Couldn’t put my finger on it. Was hoping for a coconut cake to top it all off, but the desserts seem a little thin: tapioca, some pies, and the strawberry shortcake, which I should have tried. Oh well, next time. Oh…and the final touch, which I think was really nice and unexpected: on the first Saturday of the month(which was when we showed up), there’s a banjo band that plays from 5:30 to 7:30. We were there at about 3, so we missed the band playing in the restaurant, but they practice in an adjoining room, so we got to hear muted strains of some good old-fashioned jaunty banjo tunes. Not a bad way to spend a meal at all!

The husband and I had driven by Danny’s Kosher Pickle many times because it’s located inside a mini-mall on a street that we frequent for other things. It’s a little hard to see from the street because it’s quite inset, but as we were scanning for other businesses, it had caught our attention(yes, the«kosher» and the«pickle» were the eye-catchers), so we finally decided to stop in for lunch one day. We really enjoyed our visit, and we’ve been back a couple of times since. This particular visit was a couple of weeks ago when we were in the neighborhood and needed somewhere to have lunch so decided to stop in. I guess the best way to describe the restaurant is a mom-and-pop diner. It’s very homey, not fancy, but it has a nice comfortable feel to it. In one of the pictures I’ve posted, you can see a bit of the décor and hopefully get a feel for the atmosphere of the place. Each time that we’ve been there, we’ve been sat at one of the booths. The menu is pretty simple — they have several kinds of soups, a bunch of salads, and a TON of different sandwiches and burgers and melts. I think I had the burger once, and it was pretty good. This time, I opted for the reuben sandwich, which comes with corned beef or pastrami(I chose corned beef this time) and sauerkraut, swiss cheese and Russian dressing, with a pickle spear on the side. The pickle spear is pretty small, and last time when I got the burger, I got a side order of extra pickles, but this time, since I had the sauerkraut, I didn’t figure I’d need the extra sour flavor. The reuben was really yummy, fresh and hot and great flavor. For most of the sandwiches, you can add french fries for just a little more, but I didn’t feel like having french fries this time, so I had opted to start with a small cup of soup. They also have a fairly good breakfast menu and some interesting things on the dinner menu, so hopefully, we’ll have a chance to go back for those meals at some later time. The service was good, and the waitresses(I only saw women — the men were the cooks) were really friendly and nice.

I liked the way they treated people when they were in their old location that was located just a hundred yards from where they are now. When they got to this new location, the service is just OK Our whole family went here and we use to like their food… but…the food wasn’t all that great either…

I’m always looking for new breakfast places in my neighborhood on Unilocal.I’d read the rave reviews for Danny’s Kosher Pickle in Covina, so after dropping off baby at daycare, I decided to check it out. The ravers were RIGHT! I love it when restaurants get my bacon order correct(super-extra crispy), which they did. Service was prompt and the food really delicious. I didn’t even have to ask for coffee refills — the bussers were always coming by with the pot. I’m for sure coming back to Danny’s to try their other breakfast items. Besides breakfast, they serve lunch and dinner, too.

This place rocks, and had it not been for some sketchy service, it would have gotten a perfect 5 stars. Boasting a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it was pretty hard deciding on what to get. After much debate, I opted for one of their specialty sandwiches: The West Covina. A triple decker sandwich, containing chicken liver spread and pastrami, on rye. It was glorious. Served with your choice of potato salad, cole slaw or steak fries. All for $ 9 and change. Just for kicks, we ordered some blintzes, which I’ve never tried before, and I was hooked. In the name of exploration, I’m definitely coming back here, just to conquer more items on the menu. I just wished it were east of the 57 Freeway.
