I used to go to Dick’s. But it closed, and I always felt like a needed a shower when I left there. So my son tells me about DEP’s, assuring me it was easy to find — off I-75 south, right and then right. But he ended up taking me thru Cincinnati and right under I-75 and there it was. It was sitting next to another divey liquor store, and I asked if we should compare prices. He said no, because DEP’s has great customer service. Customer service in a dive liquor store? We’ll see. Well folks, there’s a reason a cheap liquor store has 5 stars. Customer service was fantastic, prices are cheap, it’s clean. Yes… a clean liquor store. You read that right! And they have everything you need. I even found a Nicole Miller designer fur wine gift bag for $ 9. And I found all my favorite Texas vodkas. You can’t buy Mr. Eddy in Ohio for some reason. So long Dick’s. I’m not gonna miss you.

If you’re from the suburbs, this place might not be for you. It’s right on the edge of a few different neighborhoods in Covington, and you will always see an interesting mix of people there. That being said, they have the BEST selection of liquor you’ll find without having to drive past the mess that is Newport on the Levee. Not only is the selection good, but the prices($ 24 for a handle of Jim Beam) are awesome for the wallet. The staff there is very knowledgeable, especially with bourbon. Decent parking and quick service. Could not recommend any more highly.

Friendly, helpful, funny, plentiful staff. Great selection and prices. They have their own parking lot. Usually have some sort of sampling/tasting on Friday evenings. It does look a bit sketch on the outside, but the inside really is nicely maintained and organized.

I’ll go ahead and say it: I love liquor. I love whisk(e)y. I love rum. I love gin. I love beer. And vodka and wine are pretty okay, too. And if I want any of these, I will drive to DEPS to buy them. I’ll admit, it was much more convenient when we had friends who lived in the Ludlow area. However, DEPS has a great selection(their rum and whiskey selections are a drunkard’s dream) that keeps us going back. They even have moonshine and that is something the hillbilly in me just had to try. Moonshine Verdict: Egad, man! I digress. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Ask around. If you need an answer, someone there has it. If you have a particularly large order, one of the very nice gentlemen will haul it out to your automobile. All that and the prices are phenomenal. If you live anywhere near the Covington/Ludlow area, forget Party Source. Unless, of course, you’re going for their wildly insane beer section which is pretty much their only reason for living. DEPS is where it’s at. (But, watch who you get to fill a growler. Some guy there seriously didn’t know his way around a tap.)

Although it does look a little sketchy from the outside, it is the best liquor store in the area. They have a great selection of beers, liquors & wine, all for a great price. In addition to that, the employees know their stuff. If you have one specific wine you like and want recommendations for more like it, they will hit the mark every time. They have wine tastings every Friday & Saturday, so you can always find something new to taste. I highly recommend it! I usually get out of there without a case of wine!

You know, I do prefer the Fort Thomas location to this one, but this does have it’s perks. I visit this one often on Fridays on my weekly round of wine tastings. The store is very unassuming, you’d think it was just another liquor store driving by it but it is much more than that. Something that has been added in the past few months is a growler station. Where you essentially buy beer by the gallon. A $ 2 deposit on the bottle, you can get fresh from the keg beer with taps that rotate regularly. The selection is nice, despite the small space. The staff is willing to help you with any choice, whether you’re looking for wine, beer, or spirits. They do have some very enthusiastic and dedicated staffers. If they don’t have what you’re looking for they are more than happy to order some in for you.

I admit that I was intimidated by the bars on the windows and the stores somewhat dodgy exterior. But once I walked inside DEPS(which stands for Discounted Everyday Prices), I was surprised by how huge and well laid out the store was. This liquor store, which sits between Covington’s busy Madison Ave. and Mainstrasse, is always busy. Now that I’ve seen their selection – from varieties of top shelf liquor to an array of 40’s – I can understand why. No Covington liquor store would be complete without to-go cups. By law they can’t sell you a cup of ice, but DEPS will sell you a cup(for a nickel) and a separate bag of ice(for a quarter). Now, that’s a customer service(or enabling)!
