First time I had been at this little bar and had a BLAST! The people were so friendly the owner and afternoon bartender Joey was just AWESOME. The adult beverages were reasonably priced the beer ice cold. If your ever in the area ya gotta check it out.

Let me preface this by saying I hate being negative in regards to restaurants or bars. I always prefer to give anywhere I go the benefit of the doubt. However, this is the second time I’ve been to Dubbs. The first time, the new bartender was too busy getting berated by the drunk customers and got distracted. Fair enough, not her fault. She got us our order and discounted it. Write off the bad experience to the customers, right? Tonight, my girlfriend and I went in for a(yes one, singular) drink. The two bartenders on staff were clearly drunk from the minute we walked in. Instead of welcoming us, they were pouring shots for themselves and some other patrons that were clearly their friends. They asked my girlfriend for her order, ignored me, and proceeded to forget her order as well. After five minutes, we chased them down, repeated just her order and were handed a draft beer(that was marked as a special mind you) that was 25% beer and 75% foam. They still ignored me. Finally I chased them down and ordered my drink, at that point downsized from something they would have to mix to a Stone IPA. I asked for the check as well. In return I got an unopened beer and blank stares. After repeating our combined order multiple times, we got a receipt that was clearly wrong. It was less than what we would have ordered, so we let it be. We paid and I specifically left no tip and instructed my girlfriend to do the same. Walking home in the rain was better than my experience at this bar. Compared to all the other decent bars in Mainstrasse, you owe it to yourself and everyone that spends their money in this area to save your money and let this bar die the slow death it deserves. Spend your money elsewhere. I might check out the location when I hear there is new ownership. I suggest you do the same.

A much needed night of alcohol consumption brought me to Dubbs Irish Pub in Covington. It’s a small bar, with an equally small back patio, but it wasn’t overly crowded so it didn’t really matter. Covington always attracts a very diverse crowd. Anyone can feel comfortable in Covington. It is located across the street from Fatty Pattys pizza which we wandered over drunkenly to a few hours later after deciding there was no way we could make it to Hyde Park for sushi without someone getting arrested for a DUI. I didn’t check in– again, too drunk. But we ordered a pizza to go, carried it back over to the bar and a group of us ate it. The bartender, whose name I didn’t catch– was awesome. We stood out front for the majority of the night prior to the pizza, and she actually gave us window service. That’s right. There’s a small window next to the bar(not for that purpose) but she came to the window and delivered us drinks through the duration of the night. Again– I wouldn’t go there expecting this kind of treatment but you never know! You could be as lucky as we were. Overall, a nice little spot to chill. Not much room to sit down inside. Or outside for that matter. There were a couple tables and chairs outside but they brought them in around 1am, leaving even less seating. It didn’t matter for us though, since we were just standing outside most of the night anyway. I would give it three stars, but because the bartender was so great, I’d say that deserves an extra star.

I’ve been frequenting this bar through it’s many incarnations ever since I turned a legal age to drink. Saying that, this newest version is the best I have ever experienced. The beer selection is good, not the best on Main St, but it is getting there. Drinks are poured stiff and the staff is friendly. Management does a good job staffing the place for those weekend rushes and the wait for your drinks is minimal. The back patio is a great place to unwind although I would like to see more done with it.

Always have a good time at this bar. Been here a few times never had a problem with anything. It’s nothing to look at, just a small bar with just a few tables up front. What is really fun about this bar is that they have a room in the back setup and ready for beer pong. At the bar you tell them you want to play pong and they give you the balls, cups, and a cheap pitcher of beer. Its a great place for small groups to hang or out at up to about 7 or 8 people at most because it can get cramped.

Wow, had a very interesting time here. I’d love to rate this place higher, probably around 3 stars but if you read Elizabeth and Stacey’s comments, you’ll see that the time we spent there was rather tense with some interspersed fun moments. I won’t rehash the negatives and whatnot, but will confirm that what they said actually happened and is not a fabrication. My advice for any bar, regardless of location is to always be aware of your surroundings and people. Always know where exits are and where to go once you«get out». And of course, travel in groups and have what my group calls an accountabilibuddy, basically the buddy system. I enjoyed that our group essentially had the whole beer pong room to themselves. Often its hard to have 15+ people in a bar and still have adequate room to socialize. There was also a TV that allowed some of us to watch the NCAA basketball game. The drinks are stiff, so stiff that you might need to go back after a few sips and have some more pop, or as some call it soda, added. Cool! While I might have nicknamed this place Dumps, you might find it a good dive to party it up with your friends. Just remember that KY bars=smoke and smoke=nasty smelling clothes and hair(even for a bald dude like me).

Just to add to what Elizabeth has already said… She and I were together during the knife incident. I want to review the bar completely outside of the violent events of the evening… If this bar hadn’t had a beer pong table, my group would have been in and out within about 15 minutes. There is nothing stellar about this bar and everything about it was sub-par. First off, there was one bartender for a ridiculously crowded bar. She was trying to keep up and I know this wasn’t her fault, but as the evening went on she got ruder and ruder. Early on in the evening, my husband lost a dollar in one of the games– She literally told him not my problem and wasn’t apologetic at all. Later on in the evening, we were trying to close our tabs after the knife incident and she was literally cussing and yelling at customers. They had by far the worst DJ in the history of all DJs playing. It was like he had gotten a turntable for Christmas and decided on this March evening to try it out for the first time. He kept trying to do cool DJ tricks, but failing miserably… He should have just played the songs… The music was incredibly loud and made it difficult to talk even in the other rooms. The women’s restroom apparently gets chilly easily and so they had a space heater in there. I don’t have a problem with this, except that the space heater was placed directly at the feet of the person using the toilet… You literally had to be careful to not get burnt. Also, when I went in there was toilet paper laying across the heater… Fire hazard! If a space heater is needed, they need to find a safer place for it. The one thing that was good about this bar was that the drinks are strong and cheap… but that is not enough to ever bring me back…

I feel a little bad about this one star review because our experience here started out just fine. Typical small, smoky Kentucky bar with a fair selection of interesting beer in bottles and fair prices. The game room had a beer pong table that our crowd enjoyed and initially, the crowd was local and low-key. However, as the crowd got drunker and rowdier, the atmosphere became unacceptable. Our peace-loving crowd witnessed two actual fights, one instigated by a very drunk individual who was stumbling around and verbally assaulting people who were literally just standing by walls. He got himself kicked out after he finally found someone to punch in the face. Later(like 10 minutes later), out on the back patio, two employees got into a verbal altercation and one started threatening to kill the other and actually pulled out a knife! WTF! My level-headed friend called the police and we were out of there. I know not everything that happened here is the fault of this bar, but entirety of the experience is enough for me to never return.

Fairly typical Main St bar experience. Drink prices and specials were pretty good. But the best part of Dubbs was the game room. Sure they have a punching bag game to see how manly you are among your friends. But the real fun is the beer pong table. Be sure to get some pitchers of beer and cups at the bar.

Been to this Pub multiple times during Mardi Gras, absolutely loved it! They even let us play beer pong in the back room and yes, the punching machine is pretty legit. Staff was fun and friendly! Might have to see about going there again! :)

One of the best microbrewery selections from the bottle in all of MainStrasse. Great staff, and of course Beer Pong central on Tuesday nights. $ 6 gets you in Double Elimination tournament.

This place? Manly as fuck. Unlike a lot of bars, this place has alcohol by the truckload. In back, you can be a sissy and shoot some pool or take up arms and be a REAL man on the punching machine. That’s right, I said it. They have a motherfucking punching machine. Time to pop some collars and show the ladies how cool you REALLY are, especially when all your boys are watching. Overall, I’d say they have ample seating, TV’s are at a pleasant angle, and there’s always a good showing of fun folk to rouse some rabble.
