Today while running through a storm from Goodfellas around the corner my friend and I decided to escape the rain and run into The Candy Bar for shelter and well, duh… CANDY. I’ve been in this place two other times, both while checking out the Covington Mainstrasse Car Show. It’s a little hidden store on the Mainstrasse next to the bar Pachinkos, it’s really easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Or unless you have the attention span of a gnat and are attracted to letters spelled out in candy corn. And with that statement you can tell, I clearly am a person who needs to be loaded on sugar and candy. Soaked and dripping we were welcomed by an older man who informed us when talking to him that his daughter owns and runs the candy shop. He was just holding down the fort for her since she had just given birth. All I have to say is, that kid is already going to be the favorite kid in school since his Mom owns a candy shop! The store is small but has a lot of candy for a small space. They have a lot of retro candy like Assorted Charms and Slo Pokes, unique candies like giant gummy bears, mustache shaped suckers and even some every day candies like M&Ms and Nerds. There was a lot of candy I have never seen or tasted before. I’m twenty six so I’m honestly not that surprised, being semi naïve with the history of candy. The shop also has a cooler of bottled sodas. Mexican Cokes, Stewart’s Sodas, Ale 8, and Orange Crush. Pretty much all the best sodas. If you’ve never had a Black Cherry Stewart’s before I suggest you get on that. Right meow. It’s going to change your life forever. I bought candy for myself and my friend, ten different candies and walked out of there only spending $ 9. This is why I love little local candy stores like this. You can get your candy fix without hurting your wallet. Unique things about this candy store from others… They sell frozen candy bars. Reese’s, Milky Way, Snickers, Three Musketeers, Hershey’s, Kit-Kat, Zero. They also have Snickers Ice Cream Bars. They sell collectible Pez. When I first saw the giant display of old Pez dispensers I thought it was for display only, even though their is a big sign on the front of them that says they are for sale. They all are pretty cool to look at even if you’re not interested in buying any of them. If you are ever walking around the Mainstrasse I would definitely stop by here and check it out get a little sweet snack or a soda. They also have and make Cotton Candy during big events on the Mainstrasse.

The Candy Bar is A-OK! A quaint little candy shop that is located in Covington. You probably wouldn’t see it unless you were looking for it. We stumbled upon this little little spot while out on a nice walk. They have pretty much every new age candy you are looking for: skittles, gummys, lemonheads etc. I would gladly give my money to this local biz than a gas station down the street. Although they did have a great selection of candy, I didn’t feel like they had much depth in the old school candy department which is usually why I stumble in these local spots. All in all great local candy store to satisfy that sweet tooth!
